He's heading back to london and it sounds like he's got a pearl handled revolver with him.

And you can bet that Mr C will grab the reins while he's got the chance - any of them would.

Much as I dislike Botox Dave, I can't see any leader turning that opportunity down.

There are always removal vans booked for Downing Street near an election just in case there needs to be -er - removals..It's nothing to note - I remember a newspaper showing a photo of them many years back and pondering that it meant whoever was in power was about to lose - it didn't - standard practice apparently. But he WILL be moving I think that's a given.

or Harriet Harman.

or me. I do sit in the Other Place, but this is a national crises, and I will respond if friends and colleagues wish me to on behalf off this great nation of ours.....never, (play Elgar's Nimrod in the background..) when the national interest shows a need for firm, stable government, would......etc.

there's no way dc is going to let this go.

If brown resigns then dc gets invited to the palace -

If he hasn't formed a coalition with the lib dems then he will IMO form a minority government who will govern until the next election in October.

GB resigning equals labour's admition of defeat.

LordPanofthePeaks · 09/05/2010 14:25

Brown has to 'recommend' someone to the Queen. He will resist heaven and earth before recommending Plastic Dave if he doesn't have to. As he doesn't.

TheJollyPirate · 09/05/2010 14:28

I would be really pissed off if GB resigned, I didn't vote for him but many, many people did. He owes it to those people to remain in post until this is sorted - albeit while having talks about his replacement if that's the plan.

A minority Govt won't achieve anything and we need better than that at the moment. I'd rather see a Con/Dem (excellent moniker ) than see GB go and leave us with a minority Govt. And actually DC needs more than a minority - how galling to take the big job and then find you cannot implement any of your plans.

MrJustAbout · 09/05/2010 14:32

I don't think he's going as PM - but I think a successor is being organised today for Labour and plans outlined to move forward.

Darling evaded the question about whether Brown would go if he was the obstacle. His answer was that the liberals would come to them to talk. It's a good half-truth, I think, in that the contact is happening (at varying degrees of rancour) between Brown and Clegg.

If it ends in a coalition, I suspect it'll be either Alan Johnson or a Miliband as leader, Clegg deputy.

Note that David Cameron does not automatically go to the palace. The politician that the queen believes is best able to form a stable government is invited. If the tories can't get the Lib Dems on board, then that "best able" person can't be one who has no prospect of getting a queens' speech through parliament.

Totally object to BBC following him by helicopter into Downing Street. Plus showed his children getting out of car. . whatever one's feelings are about GB the politician, he has been quite emphatic that his children should not be in the public eye.

MrJustAbout · 09/05/2010 14:33

Agree again dog&MrBrown, there are rules about that aren't there?

nice monker!

Also, an anagram of that is "ruthlessandspineless". Fits.

TheJollyPirate · 09/05/2010 14:38

Totally agree with that ilovemydog - utterly crap. His children should be protected from the crap as should DC's at the moment.

LordPanofthePeaks · 09/05/2010 14:43

why the hell do we need helicopters?

longfingernailspaintedblue · 09/05/2010 15:03

Sky are reporting that Special Branch protection officers have arrived at Nick Clegg's house.

I think he could be our new Home Secretary.

TheJollyPirate · 09/05/2010 15:28

Oooh ooh - is there news?

BenHer · 09/05/2010 15:37

Hopefully.I've taken 1/2 with Betfair for him to be gone by the end of June.

BelleDameSansMerci · 09/05/2010 15:46

JollyPirate love, love, love ConDem!! You are a genius.

TheJollyPirate · 09/05/2010 15:47

Hah lol! It's great isn't it? I can not claim credit though - saw it somewhere on Facebook and it made me giggle.
