Pondering, and while slightly more optimistic than we once were, still really quite unhappy Lefty thread

Where had we got to? We'd agreed that we all love Cameron, right?

I'm afraid I agree about the cold sick
I think they will be forced to prop up the Tories. For a little while.

hungysavingexpertdotcom · 08/05/2010 23:57

TDiddy, I agree absolutely re: sitting it out and not going for a pact with the LDs, only I think you've thought it through more than me (on your marathon run).

FiveOrangePips · 09/05/2010 00:01

Did anyone see Nick Robinson's take on the Lib/Con pact?
here.

*I did one of those "how left are you" questionnaire type things online, it might have been posted here or FB, I am sure I was left of Ghandi and the Dalai Lama.

I would like to hear someone defend the unions - my dc's school has some really shit teachers - even the ht wants rid of them - but it is almost impossible to sack a teacher if they are crap/disengaged/failing. There is one teacher at the school that people actually move their child to another school - if they know they are going to be the teacher for that year, this has happened quite a lot, small school - I am involved with the Parent Council, so I hear about this, from the headteacher and parents. It makes me sad/angry because I like the school and want to support the teachers, in general - but not the ones who are taking the piss.

I wish I'd spotted this thread earlier. I've been depressed for days. The only glimmer of sunshine was learning that the city next door has gone back to Labour control after 4 years of Conservative administration.

My father jokes that he was born into the Labour party. My grandmother ran the Labour Club during the blitz so it was no real surprise that she raised a houseful of lefties. Most of my family is, or has been, poltically active within the Labour party. My mother used to do CND marches, Greenham Common etc and hang out in the feminist bookshop.

As for me, I've just got involved again after 10 years of non-activity. It feels very good to be back, and it feels like there is a lot to do.

FiveOrangePips · 09/05/2010 00:11

I voted Labour until the Iraq war, but I was angry with Tony Blair - he gives me the creeps/reminds me a lot of DC. I grew up with my parents taking me on CND marches. I think my parents could never vote Tory but I cannot agree with them most of the time re politics (they seem very xenophobic to me sadly).

I voted to keep the Tory MP out, that meant voting SNP - I really like Alex Salmond, but I am not so sure of our local SNP MP.

rofling a bit at llareggub: you do know this is the SIXTH 'depressed lefty' thread now?

And at TDiddy's profligate use of exclamation marks and optimism: on the sauce last night, mate?

Poor Justabouts: sounds like a hibernation under multiple duvets is needed?

Justabout, DH was sore for a week after. I can't help thinking brown bread and fruit for breakfast would have put his recovery back somewhat. Haven't you got any Angel Delight?
I suppose the fact that I'm off to crack open a packet of brioche puts paid to any blue-collar credentials I may claim. A bientot...(chuckles)

pmsl justabout. DH got an infection - a couple of days is normal, IIRC.
A friend's brother went into work the same afternoon and fainted in the middle of a meeting.
Right, breakfast then Andrew Marr. Hope Eric Pickles is still asleep - everything I could have thrown at him is already behind the TV after Thursday night.

Quick iPhone lurk and post while DH is at the Boulangerie buying rolls and brioche. Mothers Day here today so celebratory breakfast. DC in cellar making cards I think.

I like the idea of ID cards, Germany and CH get along fine with them, but from what I have read of the UK plans, they are too expensive & too far reaching. It is handy here to have a small wallet sized document with which I can prove my identity without having to resort to old bills. DH could not believe when we went to get a video card that this was the way we should identify ourselves.
