DH and I rejoined after years out. Important, now, I think to rebuild...

Bloody hell, I paid over £80 to renew my membership a couple of months ago. I expected at least a badge. I joined the ANL a long time ago because it was a quid for life membership and I got a badge too.

Mind you, I've had emails from Mandy, Harriet Harman, David Blunkett and Douglas Alexander this week. Dh says they'll cease contact now it's all over. I don't believe him. I think they really do love me.

thetoriesaretoast · 09/05/2010 00:28

Very happy to see this thread - I joined on Friday! Always toyed with the idea before but wasn't 100% comfortable about Blair, more of a Brown supporter. Now I just feel ashamed it took me so long. And yes, you do definitely pay according to income, so hey, maybe there's a bit of socialism left in the old Labour dog yet.

NetworkGuy · 09/05/2010 08:48

"if they normally have, say, 25 new membership applications a day and then today they got 275 that would be 1000% increase."

It would be much better to have actual numbers, because the same 1000% can equally mean 3 per day boosted to 33 for one day.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics (using % rather than actual figures is often more 'dramatic'!)

alicatte · 09/05/2010 16:58

Crumbs.

The Labour Party really didn't get a drubbing though - Personally I don't think they deserved a drubbing either because they weren't bad. (I speak as one who lived through the previous administration which richly deserved to be removed by the end.) How interesting. Good Luck to them.

4andnotout · 09/05/2010 19:05

I just joined too. Dp is unconvinced as per usual.

DavidHameron · 11/05/2010 22:09

Now is the time, people.

I have decided i would like to become a member but also like the green party do you think you can join both ? Now would not that be a good coalition green and red !

Henny1995 · 12/05/2010 01:04

Wow - you inspired me. Off to check out how much to join the Tory party now.

Highlander · 12/05/2010 10:41

Have joined the Labour Party. It's only £11/month. Well worth it to support a political party that genuinely wants to lift families out of poverty.

Can I join more than one party?

Indiestarr · 12/05/2010 13:40

Been thinking about it for days and now I have. Am lifelong Labour voter but it never occurred to me to join, but now I've put my money where my mouth is. I grew up through the Thatcher years and remember so clearly 1997 and the hope, excitement and optimism there was - can't believe it's over. I feel it's time to nail colours to the mast!!

gingermarmalade · 12/05/2010 13:48

I have just joined the labour party. Wish I had done it sooner.

MorocconOil · 12/05/2010 13:55

I joined today. I'm a SAHM and it cost £19 for the year.

I rang up to join, and the woman I spoke to said there were 2000 new members last night after GB's speech.

It was never left enough for me, but I feel there's the opportunity now to build a fantastic party!

SWC

Matsikula · 12/05/2010 14:03

I've been a member for ages, but have just been inspired to tell them that I've moved constituency, so hopefully I'll get pestered to help out. Feel guilty that I have done nada for the last two elections.

Mimizan big welcome to you. I have to say that the party is 'left' enough for me. We'll have to keep the debate civilised!

Matsikula · 12/05/2010 14:06

And Smallwhitecat, I wouldn't be so smug.

Lots of us Labour voters are delighted to see George Osborne to become Chancellor. My bet is his huuuge personal charisma will make him the first of the Tory sacrificial lambs.

MorocconOil · 12/05/2010 14:11

Hi Matsikula

Was last inspired to be politically active as a student during the Miner's strike. I'm so old!!!

I have so much more respect for the Labour Party now, as they are wholly responsible for the sound values which predominate in our country, and are being taught in our schools.

Can't wait til the media get their knives out on the Tories. Who do you think will be their first victim? Osborne?

CatIsSleepy · 12/05/2010 14:13

swc-jolly decent of you to offer to help fund Labour's next election campaign

SWC- how short your memory is! I remember the completely depressed mess the Labour Government inherited in 1997. The schools and hospitals were falling down. The inner cities were scary places to live, because some people living there were so poor, they were forced to offend to live.

That's before we consider the selfish values which dominated. The institutional racism, homophobism. That's what Labour inherited.

Even Cameron opened his speech last night by ackowledging how open our society is now. Let's hope he continues to value this openess for the future of our children.
