England is nearly all blue therefore most of the English want a Conservative Govt.

Isn't it about time Scotland and Wales were left to govern and provide for themselves?

Problem solved

Actually, I've been thinking even more.

I want a very large pair of scissors and a few tug boats. We can snip around London, attach it to some tug boats, and pull it somewhere warmer.

Or I volunteer we sell it to the Scandis and I'll put up with the weather.

b4real,
Scotland has never been militarily conquered by any nations. The beginning of the Union between Scotland and England took place with the Union of the Crowns in 1603 when James VI of Scotland was offered the crown of England after the death of Elizabeth I.
The parliaments were joined together in 1707 when both parliaments voted to accept the proposed political union. No conquering was involved.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 09/05/2010 21:28

No.

Most of England voted for one of the progressive parties.

However, the Conservatives got more seats due to the voting system.
But by no stretch of the imagination can you say "most of the English want a Conservative Govt".

NordicCelt · 10/05/2010 15:51

FanjoForTheMammaries,
The Scots do not dislike the English, what they dislike is the English bias to the media and the fact that the British government is pro-English.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/05/2010 17:46

NordicCelt...I am Scottish, you don't need to TELL me what the Scots think

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/05/2010 17:47

Anyway you can't generalise about what a whole nation of people think.

Alouiseg · 10/05/2010 17:49

Farks sake, the country needs the tories to sort out the economics or there won't be an economy!

OP posts:
Tortington · 10/05/2010 17:53

the nation is clearly wrong and i am right.

ithink they should let the tories fuck it up for 12 months then labour can get back in again.

NordicCelt · 10/05/2010 18:03

FanjoForTheMammaries,

I stand corrected. You are absolutely right that we shouldn't generalise. This point should be taken on board by others.

dreamingofsun · 10/05/2010 18:20

the majority of votes for the UK were conservative, along with the number of MPs who won seats. why should nick clegg decide which party gets into power? its like living in one of these corrupt dictatorship countries you see on tele at the moment. the party with the most votes and seats should be in power.

Alouiseg · 10/05/2010 18:28

It's been a corrupt dictatorship since 1997 dreamingofsun

sigh.

dreamingofsun · 10/05/2010 18:36

tbhheathen - i think you will find that the conservatives got the highest percentage of votes and the highest number of mps. they are handicapped by the voting system as they have larger constituencies than labour and i believe (though could be wrong) the scottish/welsh/n.ireland.

Alouiseg · 10/05/2010 18:37

We need electoral reform but not of the PR type. Scotland and Wales cannot potentially be allowed to choose the PM and government of this country when they have opted out of the many issues at the heart of the election including health, education, justice, rural affairs, and transport. They are laughing all the way to their benefits. The seats/votes should be weighted so those of us who are affected 100% by the policies have a greater say.
But, if we are to go for PR, we should start with testing it in Scotland and Wales. In Scotland Labour got 1,035,528 votes and 46seats, LD 465,471 and 11 seats and Cons 412,855 and 1 seat. In Wales the figures were Labour 531,601 votes and 26 seats, LD 295,164 votes and 3 seats and Cons 382,730 votes and 8 seats.
LD talk about fairness? Yes please

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/05/2010 21:15

"they are laughing all the way to their benefits"..

more generalisation...

Madge5 · 10/05/2010 21:20

i meant the grants they get as a devolved government. not me who is generalising

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 11/05/2010 07:35

no you are just painting a picture of Scotland and Wales as selfish scroungers, that's OK then.

Madge5 · 11/05/2010 09:17

Do you think they should have as much of a say in the things that affect those in England but not them?
And is it not true they are likely to have greater cuts to their grants if the Cons get in instead of the other two? So if protecting their grants is your definition of selfish scroungers, you're right. But it's not mine.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 11/05/2010 09:34

Yes, alouiseg, that's where I got the information from.

Inb total, 10.7m people voted Con, 15.4m voted for one of the two progressive parties.

Knocking off Madge5's figures above gives 13m progressive in England, 9.9m Con.

I stand by my post.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 11/05/2010 09:36

i didn't vote Labour so I'd get more money from England-although we pay our way in Scotland-and neither did any of my friends who voted Labour.perhaps you are projecting Conservative priorities onto us?
