Went to vote this morning and on the form it gives the area the candidates live in, and our Lib Dem candidate lives at an address in Belgium. How can that be?

DAFTPUNK Front cover of todays Daily Mirror, looks a bit frightened I know, but still gorgeous!

daftpunk · 06/05/2010 18:14

Yep, I think we're looking at the same photo...

Hmmm, yeah he's deffo got the frightened look...doesn't do anything for me if I'm honest..

Just had a tory activist at the door...

Presumably she's not going to pack in her job/house unless she "gets the new job" so to speak. Seems odd though. I live in Belgium, but am a UK passport holder - presumably there's nothing to stop me applying to be an MP if I want? I have thought about it actually considering the amount of dross there is out there.

DAFTPUNK. I wished when I was younger, I'd gone out with boys like him. unfortunately the bog standard comp I went to, only attracted right losers, one of whom used to wait for the girls near a subway and touch them up! Don't think David would ever have done that do you?

"Presumably she's not going to pack in her job/house unless she "gets the new job" so to speak."

Perfectly reasonable and logical. Can understand preference for a local candidate, but in the absence of a local candidate, one from the party of choice would be preferable to none, since "contact your MP" makes no allowance for you to contact an MP of a party you like over the MP for your constituency, AFAIK. So if you want member for your constituency, how much does it matter if they are living abroad, at the moment.

"Seems odd though."

Seems acceptable as anywhere else, to me. Happen to live/work 100 miles away, no problem being local MP if you get elected. If 100 miles away happened to be France, or Belgium, or perhaps Netherlands, is that any different to someone in Kent with a PPC from West Midlands or South West or Glasgow ?

lol....There is deffo something very sexy about public school educated men..

Plus, I'll never get what all the fuss is about re; tories all being public school educated, most of the Labour party are too...they all went to Oxford & Cambridge (or the Scotttish equivalent)...makes me laugh...

Arn't we supposed to have the most intelligent people running the country..?

I thought that was the whole point.

crystal123 · 06/05/2010 20:37

DAFTPUNK. I'm off to a count, don't ask where
I'm not telling. I'll know results of constituency before others! Good night and good luck to all.

SamanthaFox · 07/05/2010 12:26

LOL that the most intelligent people in the country are public school educated

err....

Was this, by any chance, the Green MEP (now MP) down in Brighton ?

PS Gordon apparently about to be on TV (13:30 Friday)
