How can our candidate not live in this country?

Went to vote this morning and on the form it gives the area the candidates live in, and our Lib Dem candidate lives at an address in Belgium. How can that be?

no you don't have to have duel citizenship (some of the commonwelath countries - well Zimbabwe at least) don't allow duel....

pinkfizzle · 06/05/2010 10:30

that is correct - you do not need to be a british citizen you can just be a member of the commonwealth.

crystal123 · 06/05/2010 11:01

Shadesofviolet. Probably an old dosser, with no fixed abode!

slug · 06/05/2010 11:06

Probably hiding from the CSA

crystal123 · 06/05/2010 11:07

The LIBDEM PPC doesn't even live in the constituency? He does not even live in the country? if they 'parachuted' him in as a PPC, it's from Belguim! LOL!

scaryteacher · 06/05/2010 11:16

See earlier on the thread for the grown up explanation Crystal - either an MEP running for MP, or like many others, his job is at the European HQ of a major company, and s/he works her.

Doe sit give an area and postcode OP, so I can tell you where it is? It'll be something like 1130 Evere, or 3080 Vossem for instance.

ShadeofViolet · 06/05/2010 11:23

No, no area, just 'An address in Belgium'.

She has been around here just lately as I have seen her canvassing in the market the last couple of days.

Crystal - infact none of the people on the paper lived in our constituency - they all had addresses listed outside, some close, some not. I knoew if I posted this you would turn up with your Leb Dem bashing.

The only candidate round here that isn't racist or completely off their trolley policy wise and actually comes from round here is the Tory one (that's been standing this last term)

crystal123 · 06/05/2010 11:46

shadesofviolet. I always think it best to live in the constutency your representing, perhaps also live in the country? I think anyone from any PPC should at least live in the country! This applies not only to the libdems but also to others, I think one of the UKIP PPCs did not live in the country either,(can't remember which one) to be fair.

scaryteacher · 06/05/2010 11:56

Crystal - if your job is abroad, then you go with your job. There would be little point in that person giving up their means of support unless elected. Just because someone lives abroad does not mean that they are not counted as a UK resident; we live abroad, and count as UK residents as dh's employer who sent him abroad is HMG. It could be the same for this PPC.

crystal123 · 06/05/2010 12:00

Shaaadesofviolet. Also when a person applies to become a PPC they have to give the address they live at. It is not against the law to live in another country, but it looks like this person lives in Belguim. I'm not bashing the Libdems they (like others) could not find someone to stand for them from area, as PPC? which seems a little odd. Ditto UKIP. I'm more worried because Nigel Farage has been in plane crash.

daftpunk · 06/05/2010 12:06

Crystal123...Good luck to UKIP today..!

I won't be able to vote until around 9.00pm tonight...will be voting conservative..I live in a key marginal, only 1000 (appx) votes between Tories & the Liberals...

Fingers crossed..

slug · 06/05/2010 12:13

Which one is that Daftpunk? I can't find any seats in London that have 1000 difference between Torys and Lib Dems

daftpunk · 06/05/2010 12:27

I said "appx"..and I don't want to post it on here..will give away where I live..

But DC has been all over the area...he needs to win here..

slug · 06/05/2010 12:33

I just wondered because previously you said there was a BNP candidate standing in your electorate.

I just wondered why you had changed your mind?

slug · 06/05/2010 12:36

The only London Tory/Lib Dem split is in Richmond, and there the Lib Dems currently have a 3,613 majority.

daftpunk · 06/05/2010 12:59

We had a BNP candidate for the local elections last year..The BNP pulled him for this election because they wanted to concentrate of 5 key areas, areas where they stand a good chance of winning.

Dont forget, the BNP haven't got alot of money, they have to spend it wisely.

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 13:09

well they're still fielding their candidate here..........and thankfully they haven't got a cat in hells chance of winning

NetworkGuy · 06/05/2010 13:17

DP - the more you mention, the more info it gives away, so better to keep silent if you don't want to give anything away. Also sounds like you have a DC standing, and who is on a Conservative ticket, but then again, that's just my imagination!

daftpunk · 06/05/2010 13:24

lololo NetworkGuy...

Deffo your imagination...but it's good to have a vivid one....you wouldn't want to know some of the things that go through my mind.....

crystal123 · 06/05/2010 16:09

DAFTPUNK Have you seen that gorgeous photo of Cameron on the front cover of the Daily Mirror? Talk about an own goal! I thought the Mirror was putting people off him, not encouraging them to vote for him!

daftpunk · 06/05/2010 16:28

Will get it on-line now...is he naked..?

slug · 06/05/2010 16:35

Eeeewww!! at the thought of David Cameron starkers

crystal123 · 06/05/2010 16:43

DAFTPUNK No, but he should be!

daftpunk · 06/05/2010 17:24

Crystal...He looks like he's on death row, after having his appeal turned down for the last time aswell...

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong one..?
