Just starting this so that we can all post our thoughts throughout the day.

My wish for today is that as many people as possible GO OUT AND VOTE.

I cannot vote as I have been living abroad for over 15 years so if anyone wants to vote for me, I would like to vote for Gordon Brown. Voting by MN proxy

blimey Hackney as well. good for them.

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 23:28

BNP gained there though

BeenBeta · 06/05/2010 23:28

Labour vote did not turn out again by the look of it.

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 23:29

Nick Clegg has gone to personally apologise to voters in his constituency who were denied the chance the vote because the doors to their polling station were closed in their faces, says the BBC's Nick Robinson.

MmeLindtChocBrownies · 06/05/2010 23:30

oh, that was a big swing.

tougholdbird · 06/05/2010 23:30

DH says this swing away from labour was a protest vote at labour council in this seat and not indicative of swing across country.

DreamsInBinary · 06/05/2010 23:31

Rich Hall v funny on C4...

Hulababy · 06/05/2010 23:31

Nick Clegg's sheffield ward (which is where I am infact) had people queuing for 2-3 hours, and then being turned away.

Cartoose · 06/05/2010 23:32

Wow. This not being able to vote thing is a scandal.

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 06/05/2010 23:33

LOL dreamsinbinary, she started asking if we'd be needing life jackets (she is 2.9) instead I gave her a lecture about democracy and suffrage and Emmeline Pankhurst. She wasn't very impressed.

Piccalilli2 · 06/05/2010 23:33

Queue at my polling station in Clegg constituency was huge, and most people round here are retired so huge queue in the evening means enormous turn out

bratnav · 06/05/2010 23:34

They should have put a member of staff at the end of the queue at 10pm so everyone in front of them was allowed to vote

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 23:34

this is disgusting.

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 23:34

Sunderland Central coming up soon

MumofOscar · 06/05/2010 23:35

Actually I'm seeing the point now. At the very least there should have been some consistency in what happens if there are still queues at 10.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 23:35

good way todoit bratnav.

Cartoose · 06/05/2010 23:36

yes bratnav

DreamsInBinary · 06/05/2010 23:36

Never too young, Bumper...

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 06/05/2010 23:36

People have 15 hours in which to vote as well as the option to use the postal or proxy service. It is ridiculous to start saying it is disgusting and "3rd world" election as David Dimbleby as said when people have had more than half a day to physically go to the polling station.

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 23:36

yes I think the fact that different places have done different things makes it even worse than it already is.

Could you imagine the outrage in SA in 1994 if they'd closed the doors on all of those voters at a set time "because that's what the rules say"?

Hulababy · 06/05/2010 23:37

Why can they not do as some places appear to have done? If in queue at 10 - you get brought in the room, doors are locked, you vote and then you leave. You are then isolated from outside news. Or the results are delayed on TV/press. Surely everyone getting their vote is more important than the time the first result is published?

hairymelons · 06/05/2010 23:37

We work v long hours (in work before the polls opened, usually finish around now) and only just made it to vote. I can't believe that people have been turned away, that's scandalous.

Jux · 06/05/2010 23:37

They must have been able to look outside and see that they weren't going to be able to get everyone in in time and then try to find out what they should do.

For god's sake, we're not third world country. We have the means of instant communication.

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 06/05/2010 23:37

This isn't going to end well either way is it, especially with this voting refusal issue.

I'm going to have to go to bed soon. We are in one of the top con/lib marginals. Keeping my fingers crossed here. I have heard rumours though that some constituencies (including mine) aren't going to start counting till 7 in the morning , maybe it's that they aren't going to declare till then.

BrownNotCameronPlease · 06/05/2010 23:38

TV in here not working!

Not impressed!

can i watch it online?
