Just starting this so that we can all post our thoughts throughout the day.

My wish for today is that as many people as possible GO OUT AND VOTE.

I cannot vote as I have been living abroad for over 15 years so if anyone wants to vote for me, I would like to vote for Gordon Brown. Voting by MN proxy

at BNP vote.

But surely Labour win was expected in Sunderland?

Thediaryofanobody · 06/05/2010 22:56

Oh thats a big itouch.

MumofOscar · 06/05/2010 22:56

lol that was to gaelicsheep not just a random comment

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 22:56

please excuse all typos - light weight wine drinking.

gaelicsheep · 06/05/2010 22:57

Quite a big swing there for a safe Labour seat.

SparklyGothKat · 06/05/2010 22:57

they weigh the papers don't they?

tougholdbird · 06/05/2010 22:57

they haven't explained why exit poll changed - I'm confused too, the result shouldn't change!

BeenBeta · 06/05/2010 22:57

The Labour vote it seems did not turn out in the Sunderland seat.

Same phenomenon where I live in the local election last year. A Labour seat with unhappy Labour voters protesting about the 10p tax by staying away.

Labour votes may well stay away again in he General Election.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 22:57

tis odd tougholdbird.

Cartoose · 06/05/2010 22:57

Heh

Great party OhYouBadKitten

NoahAndTheWhale · 06/05/2010 22:58

Low percentage turn out but in a safe seat that is more likely I should think.

Really should make DS's lunch for tomorrow in a quiet patch

TheFowlAndTheBallotBox · 06/05/2010 22:58

Sunderland recruit bank tellers to count & have super thin paper for the ballots. No, honest it's true!

Cartoose · 06/05/2010 22:59

Really? Oh!

NoahAndTheWhale · 06/05/2010 23:00

Surely exit polls will change as more real results are known.

mspotatochip · 06/05/2010 23:01

I am considering a quick nap

ChallengingCitrusHalibut · 06/05/2010 23:02

When did the exit poll change? It is not affected by results coming in, it is the exit poll and should not change...

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 23:02

well no surely an EXIT poll - is just that........it's what they got when people were exiting the polling station - so as people are no longer exiting the polling stations to be asked the numbers won't change.....

tougholdbird · 06/05/2010 23:03

they've taken it away now - L-D result went up from 59 to 61 seats

What the heck... just seen the exit poll has changed and put Lib Dems up 2 and Tories down 2. Guess they hadn't finished counting up when they announced it at ten.

Still not affected by results coming in though.

serenity · 06/05/2010 23:05

Just got a text back from DH confirming that his Polling Station turned people away at 10. From what he was saying earlier it's been fairly steady all day, and then it got really busy from about 6. He's not that sympathetic though given he got up at 4am to set it up, and is still there waiting for the caretaker to come and lock it up. He's a tad grumpy.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 23:05

lol cartoose - am so out of practise!

don't understand exit poll, they must have forgotten to count something.
noah exit polls are utterly seperate from real polls - they are gathered in the day from some areas as peopl leave the polling station.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 23:07

thumbs up for lewisham for keeping polling station open for queueing voters. democracy over rules.

toccatanfudge · 06/05/2010 23:08

ooo that's clever with the hexagons on the BBC whatsit - doesn't make it look so odd

Cartoose · 06/05/2010 23:08

So the result that we saw wasn't the final exit poll result ?. Why broadcast it until they know for sure? Maybe there were more voters than they predicted. Who knows?
