I quite fancy this but I don't think any of my friends have the same politcal view as I do? It's a working day the following day?
I'm not that savvy on these subject but thought it would be fun!!!
The really results aren't known until the morning and it is boring in the early part of the evening.
What do you do think

DH and I will be having our own. He's arranged to work from home the following day and I have a meeting but not til 12, so once the nanny is in at 8.30 we may well go back to bed for a snooze.

We weren't going to be bothered but now it's all got a bit more exciting.

toccatanfudge · 29/04/2010 11:14

I@m sure there'll be an MN one........though I@m not sure how I'm going to manage the TV and the computer at the same time as they're both in different rooms

But I'l be here......

Nuttybear · 29/04/2010 11:20

Not keen on a MN one. I like an audience when I shout at the telly and who will admire my vol-vents and tipas

Yep - with DH and my best friend since uni, and his partner. Have watched every election night with my BF for the last 30 years. Champagne will be ready for a momentous event (in 1997 it was opened at 3am when Portillo lost his seat.) BF will probably be chain-smoking in the garden for most of the night

And I've also taken Friday off.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 29/04/2010 12:36

Ooh, yes, let's have a MN election party!

Will be staying up late with DH, though as I have stupidly volunteered to deliver 'don't forget to vote today!' leaflets from 5am that morning, so not sure how long I'll be staying awake.

Also will not be drinking (PG) for first election ever, which might take some of the fun out of it. Arse.

WebDude · 29/04/2010 13:29

"volunteered to deliver 'don't forget to vote today!' leaflets from 5am"

Watch out for water, cold tea, or worse if you get dogs barking indoors then!

Nuttybear · 29/04/2010 13:44

WebDude How did you get involved in that?
I think you have an important job in making the day feel imprtant. Sorry searched my head for a more apt word but due to my lack of education......

OP posts:
WebDude · 29/04/2010 14:28

I'm not involved at all, Nuttybear - it was just a small warning / joke (I don't expect anyone to get tea slops thrown from a bedroom, but I would be sorely tempted to give someone a piece of my mind if their delivery at 05:45 caused the whole household to wake, and worse if someone's dog started barking, starting a chain reaction down the street!)

There was a thread some time ago about some area where the Police Community Support Officers were delivering leaflets after midnight, something which could give a really timid / frightened person a heart attack, even if the reasons for delivering the leaflets was sensible, the timing was (in my view) far from appropriate.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 29/04/2010 15:41

I'll be sure to be very quiet. Unless in my sleep-dazed state i tumble into a flower bed or something...
They did say from 5am, TBH the odds on me actually being there that early are pretty low.

Guess we could start with the pensioner areas, they're always up at the crack of dawn...

crystal123 · 29/04/2010 16:12

HEATHENOFSURBURBIA Glad to see you're doing something constructive.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 29/04/2010 17:25

Yeah.

Phrenology · 29/04/2010 17:29

I am going to one, does that count ?

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 29/04/2010 18:21

No, I'll be at the mn one instead! Dh research field is the election, so he will be in his office with tv, radio, Twitter, fb, all news sites and live feeds running.

I will not get a word out of him all night!

vesela · 29/04/2010 18:36

I'm abroad and will have my parents staying, but they probably won't stay up as late... will be half on here and half on here!

WebDude · 29/04/2010 18:50

Poor you, SSotSS, just make sure you have plenty of biscuits to go with tea and coffee!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 29/04/2010 20:24

yup, caffine will be needed! Luckily my loyalty only extends to 11pm then I'm allowed to bed ds will ensure I'm up at 5 am to see the final declarations anyway

Nuttybear · 29/04/2010 22:42

Phrenology Right I've text the invitations out. I bet no one says yes as its a working day the next day.
My best mate would've but she lives too far away. If no one takes my offer I'm going to be on and off the phone to her! I think 11pm will be enough for me. I'm not that knowledgable but I think things will be very feel very different the following day (but after that back to normal!)

OP posts:
southeastastra · 29/04/2010 22:43

no, are people really that sad?

Nuttybear · 29/04/2010 23:11

southeastastra What do you mean? Sad to come over to my house or sad that they won't come over????

OP posts:
Nuttybear · 29/04/2010 23:12

Sorry Phrenology I meant to say... Yes going to one counts. Who, what, why & where?

OP posts:
Phrenology · 30/04/2010 13:54

At the home of a friend of ours, he is a literary agent and knows all sorts, should be interesting.

WebDude · 30/04/2010 22:18

Nuttybear - maybe southeastastra just thinks it is sad to be having a party because of the election being on... to be fair I often wonder why they're not on Fridays so more people could be up to follow the results, or (and perhaps very unpopular!) just to do the counting during the day on Friday and then the results could come out at nice intervals on Saturday from 3pm, so we could enjoy a 6 hour marathon at home, in the pub, or wherever

Wineonafridaynight · 30/04/2010 22:22

We are but think it is just me, DP and best friend. We don't live near many of our friends anymore and one politically minded friend is making the trek.

She votes Torey, I will be voting Lib Dem but very left wing views, DP will probably vote Lib Dem but sways on the more right wing side of things. Should be interesting! If the Tory's get in I will be outnumbered.

Oh and Paddy Power have an election microsite by the way for anyone who fancies a bit of a flutter. You can bet on every constituency.

zippy539 · 30/04/2010 22:30

HeathenOfSuburbia - sorry, off topic, but wondered if the 'don't forget to vote' leaflets were affiliated to particular party or a more general thing. If the latter I'd love to do something similar.
