I will never vote Tory again and one reason is because David Cameron has said that he'll bring back hunting with dogs within a few days of taking power. What is this? He reckons the world is falling apart and he's there to 'mend' it but he immediately wants to bring back the barbarity and cruelty of hunting with dogs. It's a major priority. He says he's prioritising families etc.etc, but his first thought is to make sure that those who hunt can now carry on ripping wild animals to pieces including hares, foxes and deer. How kind and caring is that? It's his broken views on wildlife that need mending.

I thought they would just put it up to a free vote. Even if they do there is no way they will have enough votes. I also don't think that this is really high priority for the Tories.

I think its a vile practise and deserved to be banned. Just because its difficult to police something doesn't mean it should be legal.

JackBauer · 18/04/2010 16:34

What a ridiculous OP. If Tories win the election then DC becomes PM, not the Emporer.
A sinmple google of 'hunting repeal cameron' shows that he has said he will organise a free vote, which any new PM woudl do for any number fo things brought in by another party.

Now post something about your non-existent children or stop lobbying on here, we're not thick and you aren't winning any votes.

Xenia · 18/04/2010 17:14

And anyway the thread might back fire. Huge numbers of mothers live in the country and will vote Conservative because it is the best way to ensure the Countryside is preserved and the dog's dinner Labour made of hunting is reversed.

wastwinsetandpearls · 18/04/2010 17:52

I agree Xenia. I keep trying to kid myself that Lib Dems will get in but i think the tories will simply increase their lead because of hunt supporters.

We regularly attend point to points and similar events and the tories have been out in force whipping everyone into a frenzy.

The perception out here is bring back the Tories and bring back hunting. The second perception ( right or wrong) is that only the Tories care about the life of people in the countryside. To be fair to that point of view the Tories are very visible here, I don't see or hear from the others.

OracleOfDelphinium · 18/04/2010 17:59

Well said, Elastamum.

claig · 18/04/2010 18:09

Xenia, fishing is in their line of sight, they don't care whether working class people do it or not. Working class people enjoyed a smoke in the pub or working men's club, but that didn't stop the Islingtonistas banning smoking in pubs.

Xenia · 18/04/2010 18:30

line of sight.. pun intended....
The hunt ban was all about class and lack of understanding of the countryside - huge own goal for Labour who are now on their way out. Tally yo and thank goodness for that.

All mumsnetters must vote Conservative on Xenia orders.

lincstash · 18/04/2010 18:54

And you think the imminent collapse of the economy if Labour get back and the Unions tear it apart pales into comparison to this?

Fecking hell, some people seriously need to get a grip on reality here and get there priorities better organised. This is bickering about where the deck chairs are going to go on the Titanic............

JunoWatt · 18/04/2010 18:56

i dont give a shit about foxes

JackBauer · 18/04/2010 19:03

Foxes killed my rabbits so I have very little sympathy.

JackBauer · 18/04/2010 19:04

Foxes ate my homework too, the bastards.

OracleOfDelphinium · 18/04/2010 19:52

PMSL, Lincstash. (Not that it's a laughing matter if they get back in).

ElenorRigby · 18/04/2010 20:01

livenletlive, are you age 11 or 12?

If not you really need to grow up and get the BIGGER PICTURE.

btw in the past I have been a member of the League against Cruel Sports, also I've been a vegetarian for the last 20 odd years.

Grow up....

Desiderata · 18/04/2010 20:05

Of course, what Cameron really means is something much more sinister.

He mentions hunting with dogs, but he didn't mention that the fox would be the prey ..

I do wish people wouldn't jump to such casual conclusions.

ElenorRigby · 18/04/2010 20:13

"Fecking hell, some people seriously need to get a grip on reality here and get there priorities better organised. This is bickering about where the deck chairs are going to go on the Titanic............ "

lol I know!
I have gone on about this for ages, telling people about it because DP and I care.

But so few listen, unable to face reality and thus heads are still firmly in the sand.

darcymum · 18/04/2010 20:16

I can't wait and hope he does bring it back.

To feel the wind in my hair as I race across the countryside after a fox, a bunch of ferocious dogs keen to rip its guts out. I especially love rubbing the fox blood all over my face (oh how I've missed that!) after the dogs have ripped the fox to pieces. I long for the day my children can join me killing foxes.

Another bonus is that as soon as the hounds get old and can't keep up we just have them put down.

Role on 6th of May.

azazello · 18/04/2010 20:19

Can you do a link to where Cameron says it will be repealed rather than a free vote?

Thought not.

Desiderata · 18/04/2010 20:24

Oh! Oh! But he is bringing it back, but this time it isn't Reynard .. it's drug dealers, thieves, pimps and people who kiss on public transport.

Roll on May 6th indeed ..

whomovedmychocolate · 18/04/2010 20:30

I live in the countryside. Our local tory MP doesn't give enough of a shit to do any campaigning whatsoever. Now some might say that was arrogant twattery. Some might say it's a safe seat.

Either way I don't actually think the conservatives represent the needs of rural people any more than any other party (ie none of them really get rural issues).

But I don't agree with chasing animals across the country with dogs, unless it is agreed that humans may only be involved on foot, wearing very uncomfortable stilettos and tight skirts (especially the men - mind you most of the latter would like that IME ).

Xenia · 18/04/2010 20:43

Labour hasn't really stopped hunting at all because they are so ineffective they cannot even legislate properly but they're on the way out so no need to worry about that lot.

darcymum · 18/04/2010 20:44

I'm in a dead safe Tory seat as well. Which constituency are you in whomovedmychoc?

My vote makes no difference so I'm going to vote Green in the hope they get their deposit back.

whomovedmychocolate · 18/04/2010 20:56

North Oxfordshire. So blue up here we may as well be making porn

DinahRod · 18/04/2010 21:06

I like my Tory MP - he writes directly back about concerns, takes his young daughter to music and play on Sat mornings and is rated amongst the cheapest "to run" MPs in the country. Had his massive majority cut with the govt. boundary changes to a tiny one so will be interesting to see if he's re-elected.

The Labour counsellor who came to the door in the council elections and said frankly "Labour nationally have been rubbish!" (was at the time of expenses scandal) and liked his honesty! The Tory counsellor enquired if I wanted assistance getting to the polling station (it is 100 yards away!)

Hunting just not a concern of mine come the election. Economy, education, health, foreign policy (re wars) all are.

chandellina · 18/04/2010 21:07

i started a thread about this on AIBU.

it's a non-issue, IMO. it would be far more ballsy for someone to ban battery farming, a form of cruelty to animals that is much more relevant to most people's lives, but without the convenient class angle.
