I will never vote Tory again and one reason is because David Cameron has said that he'll bring back hunting with dogs within a few days of taking power. What is this? He reckons the world is falling apart and he's there to 'mend' it but he immediately wants to bring back the barbarity and cruelty of hunting with dogs. It's a major priority. He says he's prioritising families etc.etc, but his first thought is to make sure that those who hunt can now carry on ripping wild animals to pieces including hares, foxes and deer. How kind and caring is that? It's his broken views on wildlife that need mending.

I'm with you. Though the ban doesn't really seem to have worked- would've helped if the current government had put more effort into enforcing it.

Tootlesmummy · 18/04/2010 11:41

Whether you agree or disagree with it the current ban isn't working so the Government are complicit in allowing it to continue whilst pretending that they banned it. Mmmmm what's worse? Not sure!

elastamum · 18/04/2010 11:42

Do you work for the labour party? We seem to get a lot of these scare stories appearing ATM from posters not seen often.

What DC said was he would allow a free vote on hunting. Not quite the same thing as your scare story headline, but not nearly as newsworthy either.

Fully expecting to see dont vote conservative or your children will be down the mines next

PS. Im not pro hunting but I do feel labour doesnt give a rats arse for rural communties and would like the contryside to become a big theme park for day trippers.

DarrellRivers · 18/04/2010 11:43

FGS
Who really cares?
[expects to be flamed for such a sentiment]
Would rather see dogs hunting foxes than small children

Tootlesmummy · 18/04/2010 11:44

Well said elastamum. However so long as GB and his band of brothers roll out these spin stories then I'm sure people will believe we are going to be going back to the dark ages.

Frizbe · 18/04/2010 11:45

Hunting with dogs has not stopped in parts of Lincolnshire, I know this becuase I have to listen to my dad whinging whenever the fox jumps in what ever river he's fishing, followed by the pack and then the hunt getting around the river by what ever means they can. It happened to him twice last year.

bronze · 18/04/2010 11:47

Im not pro hunting but I do feel labour doesnt give a rats arse for rural communties and would like the contryside to become a big theme park for day tripp

sums me up too
in fact I think drag hunting is a great alternative as hate the barbarism of proper fox hunting.

BUT

Labour don't give a monkeys about rural communities. They banned hunting but did nothign to asist those who would be losing out by them doing so. I'm not talking about the rich MoH I'm talking about the lower end jobs and not to mention all the dogs that suddenly were useless. There won't be a beautiful countryside to visit if they carry on this way

btw I'm not cons. either just fed up of it all

elastamum · 18/04/2010 11:53

Hi Bronze, Im a drag hunter too, always have been. So I do know quite a lot about hunting.

livenletlive · 18/04/2010 11:54

Hi mountain monkey, I take an interest in not having our wildlife ripped apart for entertainment. The ban is working well in some areas it needs strengthening as all new Acts of Parliament do. But DCameron is saying that because it's not working fully, (because many hunts are breaking the law all the time) he will repeal it!!! So because vandalism hasn't stopped or using mobile phones while driving hasn't stopped, or even because murder hasn't stopped do we just repeal it. No, we try to both make the laws stronger and enforce it.

Hunters are his friends that's why he wants to bring it back. Elastamum, as said above I hate and abhor animal cruelty for sport. DCameron has said that it will be a policy - not just a free vote and I'm angry because it was in the Tory manifesto last week and he said on radio last week that he'll bring it back WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF GAINING POWER
so what politics is that!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't ride (sadly) but am a great supported of the rural way of life

(I wasn't arguing with you or picking on your post btw more agreeing with you

MrsMargate · 18/04/2010 11:57

Will it really?

Good.

elastamum · 18/04/2010 11:57

Oh calm down FGS!! Thre are far more important issues than hunting. What about the economy or killing a few hundred thousand people in a illegal war in iraq? Still not convinced by your creds BTW

livenletlive · 18/04/2010 12:04

elastamum, couldn't agree more that there are more important things than hunting with dogs to sort out. That's the point of my argument!! Tell David Cameron that. It's him who has made a major policy out of this issue and will bring it back within days of gaining power. It's him who needs to sort his policies into order of priority. Just the point of my statement above

You're a drag hunter that's great as I used to go drag hunting till I had an accident on my horse.

How will he instantly repeal something which is current law? That's impossible isn't it? Would need to be debate or further vote or something? In which case just vote for your local candidate who is against it and let democracy run it's course.

Sick to death of all this political tripe on MN at the moment. Wish there was an election topic then could hide the lot of it.

elastamum · 18/04/2010 12:10

At least we agree on some things. For me hunting is not a priority against other things.

Also, I dont believe hunting will reappear. If they get in there will be a free vote, conservative majority wont be big enough, nothing will change.

DC is supporting the pro hunting lobby as they are working really hard for him in the marginals. Thats what the labour lobbyists are really worried about. We have all seen the way they got the police to treat the countryside alliance march in London. They are scared of what such a well organised group can do.

Biscuit
livenletlive · 18/04/2010 12:13

wingandprayer. No there are ways to change laws quickly. I'm not sure how but they can. Agree about voting and think that the best thing is for you not to look at the talk - politics.

I'm worried about other things as well to do with parenting. election over soon!!

OP posts:
livenletlive · 18/04/2010 12:16

remember elastamum that the countryside alliance (who organised the march)is a front for hunting with dogs, all the rest is show.
I'm from a very rural background, father farmer.

Honestly, the state of everything and fox hunting is a headline.

Labour brought out ineffective, unenforcable legislation, hold the press! Oh wait, they do that practically every day!

Nearly all the thousands of things labour have banned should be reviewed.

I'm not pro hunting, but I am pro properly debated workable legislation voted on according to what constituents tell MPs they want. So I'd be glad to see the hunting act re-written and put to a free vote. If people want their MPs to vote to keep hunting banned start making sure they know its an issue for you and influence the way they vote.

DinahRod · 18/04/2010 12:44

Alarmist and daft post

Xenia · 18/04/2010 15:10

Thank goodness they will. As with most things Labour failed on hunting anyway. Huge fun.
And if they are sorry for cute foxes what about the fish? Don't they think of the fish - but of course not because working class people fish. Fishing is apparently the most popular sport.

wastwinsetandpearls · 18/04/2010 15:12

pmsl at working class people fish!

I am glad to see I am keeping the stereotyping alive.

noddyholder · 18/04/2010 15:16

There are lots of things townies squirm at.My mum for example sees no link between her plastic packed bacon and chicken and the fact that the animal has to be slaughtered. She thought Gordon ramsay was evil when he killed his pigs but loves a bacon sandwich herself.A lot of it is tradition and country folk see it different to townies. It has never really stopped

elastamum · 18/04/2010 16:10

I know the countryside alliance is the pro hunting lobby group but they are also very active in this election and provide a workforce for lots of conservative candidates in marginals. Thats why they got such a bashing when they marched in london, because the Labour party are terrified of them and sent the police in very heavy handed to arrest as many as possible. DC will support hunting as the CA will support the conservative party and provide an educated and motivated workforce for them. In reality I dont think many conservatives really care about hunting either

Xenia · 18/04/2010 16:14

Hunting is a key reason lots of people in the country will vote Tory. I don't think labour has any idea about people in the country.
