Has Andy Burnham ended up as PM somewhat under false pretences?

Please note that this is from a left wing Labour supporting paper.

It turns out that the marvellous redevelopment of Manchester that was the central plank of his credibility to become PM was triggered by the fall of Mubarak in Egypt in 2011 and what were effectively, or previously close to, bribes set up by the then Tory government to retain our massive defence contracts with the Middle East.

The owners of Man City, recently found guilty of breaking well over 100 financial football rules, are heavily involved. UK developers were excluded from access to large development contracts. Man City was sold a deal including the naming rights to the stadium, owned by the council, for £750k a year when professional rights brokers estimate the market value to be between £10m and £15m a year for the name alone.

The question is, did a local Mayor with no experience outside politics and only a tiny amount of experience of cabinet roles, (3 jobs in 3 years), get to be Prime Minister without a challenge on the strength of the development of the centre of his city that he actually only had a small part in creating?

Agreed.

And I realise that some on MN either wish AI
didn’t exist or fail to acknowledge its impact, but it’s here and it’s leaving very real consequences, right now.

Labour will shortly lose control of jobs, tax and welfare, if it’s not already too late.

Genuinely curious as to which party you think is currently best equipped and front footed about AI and its impact on jobs? I don’t think i’ve seen all that much about it from anyone, yet.

But my understanding was Labour and the Unions were working on it as part of the New Deal for Working People, and beyond that the government’s plans for putting vocational education on a par with academic education, and including oracy alongside reading and writing is about empowering young people with a more AI proof education, no?

Odd that you’re so fixated on an early election then.

Less fixated than others are on Reform.

Evidently.

I'm going to make this clear. I dont want you quoting me anymore. I don't want to engage with you. I'm sure I've said this to you before so I am repeating it here.

Unfortunately this is a forum, and that means anyone who wishes to do so can quote you and engage with you.

That’s rich coming from someone obsessed with Labour.

Yes its a forum, not a hunting ground. I can make whatever request I want. OK.

Well, they are - whisper it - in government…

Not really. They are the least of my worries.

I am sorry you feel that way. Did the recent tv documentary not worry you?

Yes it’s fine. I’ve seen similar in return. It’s not a problem.

Actually, when someone tells another poster they don’t wish to engage with them but the latter poster persists then that would be bullying and can be reported.

If you did a calculation of how many Reform and Farage threads are started as opposed to Labour, you'd probably not be surprised.

Not at all because I'm not naive enough to believe every party doesn't harbour sleaze and scandal,.some are just great at hiding it. Antisemitism went unaddressed under Corbyn. Did that not worry you?

Every other thread now is Labour or Burnham. I haven’t seen a Farage one for months.

Indeed you can. And any request you make can be ignored. Nobody is hunting you. You say things, people respond. That's how it works.

Edited

You can, but that becomes difficult when the original poster posts things which other posters have issues with. You have to balance people's right to freedom of speech with all the other factors.

You sound naive if you think Reform is just like the other parties. I guess you consider them unlucky?

I think most people are happy to see Reform slide, something we can agree on?

We're currently witnessing the slide. Not looking away.
