What is the best way to vote to stop Reform at next GE

HedgeKnights · 09/05/2026 06:43

As a more left leaning voter, I am happy to vote Labour, Lib Dem or Green. I am worried Reform will win the next GE and think Lib Dem might be the way to go, to keep them out. Not just as a tactical vote as I do like most of their policies.
Do people who don't want Reform in power need to to come together now behind one party, or is it more difficult than that

If you feel threatened by that then I don't know what to tell you.

Remember that the next time a Reform supporter reacts to legitimate questioning or challenge with “we’re being silenced and bullied”

Just vote tactically. I will be doing. They are the party of ignorance and hate.

But people are voting for them. I think there has to be questions asked on why people think they’re a viable option. I don’t vote for them but we shouldn’t be ignoring that people are

Reform now have a couple of years to prove what they can achieve for the people who voted for them in their local areas.

It will be interesting to see how that pans out.

Yes - in some ways, as a Leftie myself, I was disappointed that they didn't win MORE councils yesterday. It would be interesting to see if they do better than they have in Kent. We really need to see what they can actually do - I suspect they will avoid any work and do nothing, but I'd like to see.

Men are incredibly dangerous.

They’re dangerous to other men and they’re dangerous to women and children.

Prioritising some men shouldn’t be a reason for women and children to have to be put in increased danger.

PS I haven’t been able to find this story in the UK. There were however, multiple stories of asylum seekers murdering British people. Only one such instance in the Netherlands of four men and one asylumer being the victim though. Could you link an article, please?

Edited

I’d like to see that article too. I’d also like to see details of the “multiple British people being murdered by asylum seekers”

Catsandcheese · 09/05/2026 12:59

A quick google Afghan man killed by 4 people. www.bracknellnews.co.uk/news/26075562.bracknell-murder-carpark-victim-special-ops-hero/

I am just not petty enough to live like that, I'll leave that to you.

That’s horrendous.

I have no idea what you mean by that. But hey ho.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 09/05/2026 13:58

@Goldfsh They are already running some councils aren’t they? All have had council tax increases and no big savings found as they promised. People are very gullible.

Some local authorities, especially large unitary ones, have very highly paid chief execs, (£200k+) and a plethora of highly paid senior managers. These officers should be experts in their fields (the good ones are), with wide experience, and if new councillors have any sense they’ll listen to advice. These are the people who can guide them with regard to legislation, finance, basically all the statutory requirements of their council.

Seaitoverthere · 09/05/2026 18:32

I wouldn’t worry about it at the moment. 3 years is a long time in politics, people vote differently in local elections and parts of the country didn’t get to vote.

Think lots of people will vote tactically to try and stop them. I’m mid 50s and never voted Conservative but suspect I may in next election as think it will be between Reform and Conservative here.

cantgardenintherain · 10/05/2026 11:07

Get rid of Starmer for someone who is prepared to put working people before millionaires.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 10/05/2026 11:42

The main problems are:
The media- foreign owned. It’s awful what they publish. They publish what is best for their interests and gullible people believe it.
Voters basic lack of economics. Not knowing that X policy will make you worse off.
Believing propaganda.
Politics for personality rather than expertise. Just look at Trump, Farage etc. voting for someone who you like the look of rather than someone with a proven track record or skills to do the job.
Unrealistic expectations. Moaning that your bin doesn’t get collected weekly but then not wanting to pay the cost of weekly collections is one example.

In my opinion Labour have failed to help working people. I know my Labour council gives food vouchers to certain people. They also reduce council tax to certain people ( I’m not sure if this is a local decision or not.)
However the people benefitting from this are not the hardest working people. I’m trying to be kind here but they always have lots of children, don’t live with the father(s) and if they do work, work minimal hours. Mostly they don’t work. The fathers of these children either don’t work or work and don’t have responsibility for their children, claiming to not live at the same address, yet they keep on having children together.
Yet someone falling upon hard times never seems to qualify for these freebies,
It’s the same with all benefits. They should be a temporary measure, not a lifestyle choice.
Likewise billionaires and millionaires should pay more tax.
Those who have to work should not be shouldering the burden but they always do.
I want a party which stands for the working person. As yet I cannot find one.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 10/05/2026 12:07

The media is not consumed in the way you think. Newspapers aren’t widely read. Rubbish on the internet is and has NO standards. Newspapers are held to account, internet isn’t.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 10/05/2026 12:10

@cantgardenintherain The millionaires pay the most tax. Any economist knows we’d tank without them. This is why student politics should be binned and millionaires work too. They employ the workers so yes, bleed them dry. How utterly stupid.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 10/05/2026 12:25

Stop accusing everyone of racism and listen to people in communities destroyed by rape gangs etc would be a start.

cantgardenintherain · 10/05/2026 16:17

@MeetMeOnTheCornerSure they do! As if.

Reform have taken over where I live.
I’m going to be contacting the councillors on a regular basis to complain about pot holes and anti social behaviour. I’ll be expecting a response to every email and a resolution.
I’ll see how well they tackle those issues.

Great idea. I'm going to do the same. My local councillor is not reform but they got a majority in my county sadly

Yellowchair1 · 10/05/2026 17:34

This was my thought until I inadvertently ended up with reform taking over my local council 😭 I don't want to see my local area decline so I hope they do a good enough job, but also don't want them to succeed and get into central government. I am torn...

worriedmumofgirls · 10/05/2026 17:36

IMO, I think you should vote whatever party you support.

I don’t know who will win, but I hope Labour gets absolute destroyed. I say that as a life long Labour supporter, they’re truly dreadful.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 10/05/2026 18:58

@cantgardenintherain Sadly it’s people like you who are economically illiterate and jealous who are ruining this country. We need high tax payers. We need people to be successful. We need people to start business and reap the rewards from doing that. We need people employed in good jobs by business owners. That means we have to accept some people make good money from business.

My friends have local government pensions and a house worth £1/2 million. Very standard around here. They have a pension pot of over £1 million without any other savings, which they have as they never had dc. So what would you do with them? Rob them?

Stop accusing everyone of racism and listen to people in communities destroyed by rape gangs etc would be a start.

Maybe if Reform want to stop accusations of racism then they should have a vetting process that prevents racists from becoming elected as councillors like we’ve seen this week and condemn racism within their party more emphatically. This morning on the BBC I watched Richard Tice deputy leader of Reform fail to condemn a comment made one of their elected councillors in which he said Nigerians should be melted to fill in potholes. The week before Tice explained away another councillor praising Nazis with a ‘we’re all human.’ There’s an elected councillor who has stood twice before for the BNP and the one who said the Holocaust was a hoax. I’m from a town that was involved in the grooming gangs, I want justice for every single victim and yet I can also see that racists are drawn to Reform and being given a platform by them.

MushMonster · 10/05/2026 20:48

For centre left minded people it is time to start looking for other parties.
I do like most of what the Lib Dems have to offer indeed.
The Green Party is too left for me.
Plaid Cymru just made it in Wales and I think they are a very good option.
The real left minded people in Labour could choose to leave and build a new party by next elections. There is plenty of good politicians in tge Labour party, who really care about their constituents and the country and that have great vision for the country. But Starmer is constraining them and quietly moving away from their memorandum. Maybe he thinks we do not realise.....

Shouldn’t all political parties have this stipulation?
