Apparently with Brexit being a done deal (hence not posting this in the Brexit forum) we aren't allowed to criticise it anymore.

Nothing to do with the private medical companies taking a massive wodge of NHS money at all, then?

That's only happening because the NHS tiers of management are incompetent. If the NHS could use the capacity it has to deliver rather than faff around they could easily meet the need.

dwordle · 28/03/2026 11:55

People need to accept.... Brexit was a huge act of self harm....pushed by Farage. It's cost most British people their financial future....and also their freedom. You are less free now than you were before Brexit. The ability to work abroad is now laden with red tape.

People honestly think Farage will some how make things better....he won't and he has a proven track record of making things worse.

The EU negotiated from strength
The UK rushed to prove a point

Or Johnson got pissed and gave away the farm.

‘To their amazement, Johnson gave way on tariffs and product weights. Brandis, the high commissioner, moved like a flash, writing down Johnson's pledge on a piece of paper and then excusing himself to go to the washroom. On his way to the toilet he handed the paper to an aide, the same former Australian official added.
The aide digitally scanned the note and sent it instantly to the Australian High Commission on the Strand, where a waiting colleague quickly turned it into a formal trade document. This was sent back and — remarkably — printed out inside No. 10, and then placed by the Australian team into an official-looking folder. The folder was handed back to Brandis as he headed back into the dinner.’

How Boris Johnson sold out Britain’s farmers over dinner with the Australian PM

As the UK-Australia trade deal comes into force, those close to the negotiations reflect on their dramatic — and farcical — climax.

Ah, yes, a quote from Liz Webster - although it should be noted that Liz Webster is a somewhat fanatical anti-Brexit activist. A former Lib Dem candidate, founder of Farmers for a People's Vote, her husband's field was used by Led By Donkey's in 2019 for a giant anti-Brexit message claiming, “Britain now wants to remain.” I believe she is now a member of The Rejoin EU Party.

If the UK government are not happy with the Australia deal, your link says that it could be terminated and renegotiated with just six months’ notice in writing. “The current government has the power to act and improve the agreement if they want to."

She is indeed anti Brexit, sensibly not a fanatical activist.

Are her political leanings an issue for you?

Clavinova · 28/03/2026 18:38

Liz Webster implying/lying that the UK-Australia deal includes hormone-treated meat.

I think this description sums her up perfectly;

A fanatical activist is an individual driven by excessive, uncritical zeal or obsessive enthusiasm for a specific cause, political stance, or belief system. Such activists are characterized by an uncompromising, often "all-or-nothing" approach, frequently refusing to acknowledge different perspectives and demonstrating high levels of intolerance for opposing views.

George Eustice called the deal a failure

Any comment on his politcal leanings?

I remember that James O'Brien referred to George Eustice as George Useless if that helps. I didn't find him very impressive myself - one isn't obliged to like every politician.

JuliaMaesa · 28/03/2026 19:10

It is peculiar that not a single media outlet that agitated for Brexit has run a single quantifiable positive story about it's benefits.

Not one.

A lot of debatable qualitative benefits though.

Anyway, now it's all done

I didn't ask about liking him.

You had a go at Liz Webster for saying the same as Eustice, so why not discredit him for his political leanings? Is it because he is a Brexiteer and Tory?

Are you an avid Daily Mail/Telegraph/Express reader? Which publication do you enjoy reading the most?

Brexiteers making ad-hominen attacks on people realistic about Brexit?
They really don't change.🙈

Never mind all those in here supportive of Brexit - once Nigel gets in and it’s still shit and clearly was pointless then you are going to find it harder to justify when the plebs get restless - I always think Theresa few old colonial types on here with money stashed away offshore who just don’t want to be upfront that it doesn’t really matter to them as they have enough cash to buy their way in to most places- travel around a lot, may well have more than one passport Don’t need to worry about jobs as such and pay private for stuff - you know people exactly like Nigel !!

If Boris et al didn’t skip the correct processes and agree things on scraps of paper, maybe, just maybe, the UK would have a better deal.

I think if you look at Liz Webster's social media output, there is much that is sensationalised, exaggerated, distorted or false.

In addition, I've just found this - she instigated a failed legal challenge to the government's Article 50 declaration in 2018 - something else to add to her cv;

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-44457011

Swindon campaigner Elizabeth Webster brought the case against the legality of Britain's declaration to leave the European Union.

Lawyers for Ms Webster, who spearheaded the crowdfunded effort, hoped to win permission for a judicial review and halt Brexit negotiations.

But following a two-hour hearing judges said the case was "hopeless and totally without merit".

TopPocketFind · 29/03/2026 20:11

She is still right about the damage Brexit is causing the UK and that the UK/Aus deal is a failure.

Your pro-Brexit publictations are just as sensationalised, exaggerated, distorted or false.

How do you know? Presumably some UK sectors have benefitted from the UK/Aus deal.

Do you think French or Irish beef farmers will benefit from the Mercosur deal?

In addition, several publications on the continent claim that France has been humiliated over Mercosur. French lawmakers voted against the deal and Ursula von der Leyen went behind Macron's back to push through the provisional deal - she didn't even consult Macron/the French government. She also ignored the European Parliament.
