Would you vote for them? And do you think they would do a good job?

  • Robert Jenrick, Chancellor
  • Richard Tice, Business, Trade and Energy
  • Zia Yusuf, Home Affairs
  • Suella Braverman, Education & Skills, Equality

He just needs Patel and Badenoch and he would have the very worst of the previous Tory govt.

Zonder · 17/02/2026 17:14

I hope his tagline is something about recreating the worst of times.

MellersSmellers · 17/02/2026 17:20

Well I would never, ever vote for them anyway, but when I heard this I felt physically sick 🤮
What a bunch....

Imdunfer · 17/02/2026 17:42

Well how very refreshing it would be to have a minister of Business Trade and Energy who did a practical real world degree at a provincial University and has actually run and created businesses that do more than shove money around.

It will never catch on.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 17/02/2026 17:44

Braverman says she'll do away with the Equality Act.
I guess she's happy to see the return of signs saying 'No Blacks', no sick pay, no mat leave, oh and no reason to pay women the same as men for the same job. Has she thought this through, do you think?

Would her parents have been able to come and live in the UK if her ideas had been in force then?

Though at least they anticipated the kind of person she would grow up to be- her birth name is Sue Ellen.

In answer to the OP, no I would not vote for Reform.

I believe that is a necessity to leave the ECHR and return all decisions on human rights to UK courts and that the intention is to reinstate the rest with a bill of rights.

The Tory policy is the same.

The EU is with us in saying that the ECHR needs reform.

EarthlyNightshade · 17/02/2026 18:02

The hardcore Reformers (on Facebook) are getting a bit twitchy about all the Tories.
I can't wait to see Braverman's education policies ... the mind boggles!

Oh yes, he did work for his Grandfathers property company for many years where he was promoted to CEO....

He took a degree in construction economics and quantity surveying in order to go into his grandfather business and worked his way up to CEO and having worked in that company and learned the ropes he then started a construction company of his own.

It's a bloody sight more experience of real work than most people who end up in that position in Governmrnt.

The current incumbant appears to have experience only in the overseas voluntary sector.

I suspect her educational policies will consist of the 3 Rs and a lot of glorifying the British Empire.

😂Yes, I read his Wikipedia page too but summarised it for you. Same conclusion - nepotism...

You're missing the point. Even if his entire success is due to his grandad being able to give him his first job, that he studied an appropriate degree to be able to do, he would still be a rare Business secretary for his experience of business.

As I pointed out, but it's worth repeating, the current one appears only to have experience of the overseas, not for profit, charity sector.

Not a great deal of exposure there to understanding how to build businesses that make the profits that are required for the tax that finances the country to be paid.

Piggywaspushed · 19/02/2026 07:46

So, since everyone needs 'real world experience' what is Braverman's education background?

My mind more than 'boggles' at the idea of Braverman's education policy. As a teacher, I'm bloody terrified -as should anyone be.

Well I'm not sure that teachers have a strong argument there, having appointed a fireman as head of their union 🤔

But of course it's far easier to have experience of business as a government minister than it is of education. How many MPs who have worked at senior level in education are there available to choose from?

Attended evangelical Christian Holiday camps set up only for pupils from public schools....

Property developer, handed a job in the family property business, the very definition of "Shoving money around"

He didn't start his own construction company

A hypocrite who worked in Paris, then set about making sure its a lot harder for others to do what he did.

Oh and a climate change denier....

Yep well rounded guy.

Timeshavechangedcertainly · 19/02/2026 08:17

It's not exactly inspirational. The old tories he's dragged in werent exactly charismatic favourites. I can't see how this helps them. It screams barrel scraping.

What's your opinion of our current business secretary having no experience of working in a business that contributes any money to the running of the country?

Simonjt · 19/02/2026 08:18

You are sidestepping my point. It isn't necessary for someone to have real world experience to be a politician. What is necessary is a desire to learn and to listen and to surround oneself with advisers who do have experience.

Braverman will approach this role entirely ideologically and do extensive damage.

I'm sorry, I thought the point you were making was that Braverman had no experience of working in education.

I still believe that it is extremely important for the Business Secretary to have real world personal experience of generating the profits that pay the taxes that finance the country.

I haven't looked at Braverman's plans but I expect they will have considerable appeal to voters.

Imdunfer · 19/02/2026 12:09

What is it about holding left wing views, a sense of moral superiority maybe, that means it's almost always the left wingers who descend to personal attack, both on other posters and on the subjects political discussions?

Is it simply to much to ask of some left wingers to make a civilised contribution to a debate?

She's banking on that other type of discrimination- she's protected because she's rich and powerful.
