Should he / will he face criminal charges?
For sending sensitive / confidential information to Epstein?

Obviously the man’s integrity was in the sewer and it would break every code of good practice in public office to discuss raising Epstein’s point of view with the Chancellor but that probably counts as misconduct rather than criminal?

But forwarding sensitive e mails that could threaten the financial security of the country?

“……Funny that women don’t seem to have been quite so bowled over by him.”

I agree @CandidLurker
He always gave me the “ick”.

He hasn't been ambassador for ages. He was sacked last September.

Eta: that wasn't ages ago, but it feels like it! Politics moves so fast.

Great, I was not aware. So is he essentially gone form politics now? Just remains to be seen if there will be a criminal investigation.

CollieModdle · 04/02/2026 10:50

It looks as if the criminal investigation had started.

Just remains to be seen if there will be charges.

And conviction.

Interesting to see how much can be brought into the public domain before (or if) it becomes sub judice

The whole thing is so seedy and creepy. His and others' behaviour has conflict of interest and abuse of power written all over it. Absolutely disgusting. I wonder what other skeletons will be unearthed in the process. Hideous.

MargoLivebetter · 04/02/2026 11:14

I wonder how many more UK political bodies may emerge from the same swamp from which Mandelson has been wading in! Given that Mandelson has been in politics for all of his adult life and was notorious as "The Prince of Darkness", I suspect he has much dirt on other politicians.

OrinocoGlow · 04/02/2026 11:26

I wonder who else Mandelson had dodgy dealings with. This was only uncovered as the Epstein files were released. Apparently his email account is no longer accessible so who knows, PM could have been giving sensitive information to others which may never be discovered. It's all so shady and devious.

Only catching up with things, so he has resigned from the Labour party not just his position in House of Lords? How can he still be the ambassador?

From the position of ambassador, he has been fired. Back in September 2025.

What does this The Prince of Darkness reference mean?

GCSEBiostruggles · 04/02/2026 14:15

It is mind boggling why they (Trump et al) have strung it out like this, over YEARS! If they had released it in one go years ago this would be old news. Instead they've provaricated and increased the interest, scrutiny and shock.

Rape and abuse would have gone unnoticed?

What does this The Prince of Darkness reference mean?

It has been his political nickname since the 1990s because of his ruthless political maneuverings to bring Labour to power in 1997. Just web search it with his name and you will get lots of back story on it.

GreenRedFlowers · 04/02/2026 15:39

I read this really interesting thread on x.com that pulled together a set of emails about Mandelson asking Epstein for advice about jobs with various banks including Deutsche bank and Lazards. One had offered him £1m a year and Epstein suggested he was selling himself short.

Interesting article by Danny Finkelstein. I’ve enjoyed their podcast since it started (Sally Morgan took over from Mandelson as the Labour person). I am utterly appalled and disgusted by what I see as tantamount to espionage, but this article tries to be balanced to show why Mandelson was continually let back in, but it doesn’t excuse anything.

A personal tragedy but a jaw-dropping scandal

Peter Mandelson’s conduct as revealed in the Epstein files is shocking even in someone whose flaws are well known

Mandelson has been out of control for decades, everyone knew

Did they? I didn’t.

Have you been living in a cave?

He was sacked ('resigned') from 2 high profile government jobs in the cabinet over the years for being up to his neck in controversy before being sacked from his latest job as ambassador to Washington.

He's shonky as phuq.

Mandelson has been out of control for decades, everyone knew and yet he got brought back in to government every time. You do wonder what his secret is.

Snake oil is his secret. Oily little oik.

Appalonia · 04/02/2026 22:45

Looking at the front pages of the papers, looks like Starmer will be gone soon too...

I agree. For the seedy side of it, and how absolutely abhorrent it all is, Helen Rumbelow is excellent. I thought the other article showed maybe why people took a risk with Mandelson. He certainly had political skills and charm-but from what I can see women didn’t seem to like him at all. I’m hoping tomorrows podcast will shed light on how Sally Morgan found him to work with.
I studied the latest Epstein files. As a woman, this is what I felt

They show a hidden world oiled by porn-saturated misogyny. I spent two days reading them

Also having worked in Banking for 30 years us mere minions were regularly told in training courses that any hint of sharing any market information or accidentally “tipping off” someone off that we suspected of something dodgy, we faced instant dismissal for gross misconduct and criminal proceedings. It actually used to make me quite paranoid dealing with people and security. Yet Peter Mandelson can send random insecure emails disclosing all sorts

Yes we are learning that rules and laws are only there to keep the little people under control. The ones who make them don't consider they apply to themselves.

I’m sure there are plenty more men wading in the Epstein swamp whose names have yet to appear. And even more whose misdeeds have yet to come out.

Both are valid. Finkelstein’s was illuminating as to how plausible Mandelson was.

Maybe they are hoping they'll all die before it does fully come out... I'd love to see the Russian's version.
