Should he / will he face criminal charges?
For sending sensitive / confidential information to Epstein?

Obviously the man’s integrity was in the sewer and it would break every code of good practice in public office to discuss raising Epstein’s point of view with the Chancellor but that probably counts as misconduct rather than criminal?

But forwarding sensitive e mails that could threaten the financial security of the country?

Absolutely he should. As should Trump but I like to think we aren't as bad as the US.

AlwaysRightISwear · 02/02/2026 23:07

Yes.

And perhaps we should change the law to say any peer convicted of a crime should lose their title automatically.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 02/02/2026 23:37

Mandelson has been out of control for decades, everyone knew and yet he got brought back in to government every time. You do wonder what his secret is.

Did they? I didn’t.

StarChamber · 02/02/2026 23:45

Misconduct in Public Office is a criminal offence, not a civil one. It means that those found guilty can lose public sector pension benefits, for example, and serve time in prison.

I think his secret is that he's got everyone else's! I can't think of any other reason why.

dwordle · 03/02/2026 07:11

It should be investigated as this whole thing looks like a KGB honeytrap.

It also raises the question of Trump, is he compromised and is this the reason for his reluctance to nail Putin?

What amazes me is how these people are so easily taken in. They must think they are untouchable, just shows you the level of corruption at the top.

An abuse ring that spans continents for the rich and famous.

Wow. Such insight. You should have said something.

I just read this as a response to a post by Michael Rosen on Facebook talking about Mandelson.
I talked to Mo Mowlem shortly before she died and after she was ousted by Mandelson, even when she was seriously ill.. and he then claimed the glory of the Peace in NI.. that she had brokered. That bastard even removed her security personnel.. When Every Northern Ireland Sec of State previously had them for personal safety! But being a mere minion.. I could do fuck all.. but tell her how much she was loved and respected.
But he Never regained my respect or trust.. He was and is a Creep. That was in the 90’s; and while I’m deeply disgusted by his sexual behaviour (rent boys etc) the fact he SOLD Govt/ State Information to that man for MONEY.. makes him a Traitor!

Thanks for sharing. Didn’t know he took Mowlem’s security away.

It’s looking likely. The reference to tunnels under Downing St is a shocker. Depends if CPS find it meets the threshold for misconduct.

But he’s come back more times than Freddy Krueger, so I wouldn’t bet on it.

glassmouse · 03/02/2026 08:14

That guy seriously gives me the creeps.
He must lose his position.

Well do you know why he was consistently reappointed? Because I don't.

PacificState · 03/02/2026 08:27

I’m so angry about this. Up until this point I had bought his general sob story - I thought he was a socially unadept, slightly odd person who was desperate for approval from powerful men. He was obviously covetous of wealth, but I guess I thought that made him pathetic rather than dangerous. I also had some sympathy for a gay man who spent his first 30-40 years scared about revealing his sexuality.

But passing critical, secret government information about UK policy to a nonce so that the nonce can make money in the markets with it… fucking hell. If that’s what happened I hope he goes to prison, I really do.

Er....how would you not have known? Hes had to leave government or in trouble for various dodgy reasons many times before? He's dishonest and everyone has known that for many years. Why would he continue to be involved in government? The ambassador appointment being the most egregious?

I though Labour were supposed to be the adults in the room again and ending sleaze?.

Efacsen · 03/02/2026 08:29

@Zonder that story about Mo Mowlem is horrible and shocking

Pineneedlesincarpet · 03/02/2026 08:30

The Telegraph have reported the content of his emails between Epstein and they make difficult reading. Bearing in mind many were after Epstein had been released from prison.

glassmouse · 03/02/2026 08:30

Later in January 2026, a further release of documents relating to Epstein showed that Mandelson and his then partner, Reinaldo da Silva (now his husband), had received upwards of $75,000 in payments from Epstein. The documents also revealed that Mandelson, then serving as Business Secretary, had lobbied government ministers to amend policy on bankers' bonuses at Epstein's request

The underpants image is too hard to forget.

His Excellency The Right Honourable Lord Mandelson showing off his briefs Envy
Peter Mandelson was made a life peer (Lord) in 2008 by Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Brown did this so Mandelson could serve in his Cabinet (as Secretary of State for Business) despite no longer being an MP. Is this when he shared confidential and sensitive information?

Can a peerage be removed?

JoyintheMorning · 03/02/2026 09:05

I heard World-at-One Radio 4 yesterday, they went through it in detail. It seems the Treasury knew information was leaking to Major Investment Banks but could not find who.
It should count as Treason. How many Civil Servants were under suspicion of passing information and not promoted because of the cloud over them.

Not at all who he is! As Charles Haughey (notorious Irish PM in the 80s) said about Bertie Ahern (notorious Irish PM in the 00s) “he is the most cunning of them all” Those who know, know… Bertie did a great “I’m just a simple fella who enjoys a pint”

Yes it was at that time

Removing a peerage requires an act of parliament - last done during WW1

Well do you know why he was consistently reappointed? Because I don't.

He was re-appointed to Cabinet and used as an adviser becuase he is extremely good at the game of politics. So good people whom he'd betrayed in the past worked with him.

I was in the barbers shop when the news that Brown recalled him to Cabinet and given him a peerage. I had to explain the stream of shocked profanities I let go to he Australian lass cutting my hair

His value as US Ambassador was his ability to work with Trump.
