Mumsnet backing Reform?

I can't read the article properly but it's in the Independent that Mumsnet is backing Reform, is this true?

OP posts:
Clutterbug2026 · 05/01/2026 15:09

Of course not. There will be a percentage of MN who like MN policies and who will vote for them, just as there will be a percentage of the general population. MN aim is to make money, they won’t do anything to put that at risk.

That say who like reform policies.

Well I won’t be!

EchoedSilence · 05/01/2026 17:52

How bloody depressing.I'd give it up if I was Justine.

ghostyslovesheets · 05/01/2026 17:56

4 in 5 aren’t backing Reform though so why are they claiming MN is? It isn’t according to that statistic

Reform had the highest percentage of support relative to other parties, so in a fptp system would win Mumsnet. The bigger, more relevant takeaway is the massive erosion in Labour support since last election - former supporters are shopping around (lib dem, green, reform).

Thirdchildjoy · 08/01/2026 09:37

What a ridiculous statement. Mumsnet is not one voice it is lots of different voices. We can all decide who we vote. I'll assess the policies nearer the time depending on who will give my family the most support. I won't vote for anyone who will reinstate the third child cap so it will be Labour or Reform - I need to understand the rest of the package they offer.

Somemum1 · 27/01/2026 14:16

I used to vote Green / Libdem / Labour, but I will be voting Reform at the council elections in May, and at the next General Election, for the following reasons:

  1. I am not racist, I am very happy to welcome anyone of any colour, race or religion who wants to help our country thrive and accept our values. BUT I believe that many illegal immigrants and some legal ones despise Western values, come here to exploit our generosity, and want to change our country to respect their own views. As women we are kind and tend to want to help everyone, but we have been taken advantage of, with no respect in return.

  2. The country is broke. We need to change taxes and welfare to incentivise businesses, get people working and attract investment and talent.

  3. We need to stop spending fortunes on housing, welfare, legal aid, health, policing and prison for people who should not be in this country and don't need to be - I am happy to help genuine asylum seekers, but many of those granted Leave to Remain go back to visit their supposedly dangerous countries.

  4. We need to tackle crime, particularly against women and girls. Sexual violence has risen dramatically, and unfortunately I think this is due to cultural differences between Britain and some of the countries that immigrants come from. Forgive me for wanting our children to be safe.

It won't be easy, but Reform's policies are to:
End illegal immigration, deport illegal immigrants, increase policing, reward working and productivity, scrap net zero to lower fuel costs for businesses and people, support farmers and manufacturing, rebuild our armed forces, encourage families
All of which I agree with.
(I used to back net zero, and I still care deeply for the environment, but I feel we have made poor choices too quickly, handicapping our economy, when our country's impact on global warming is very low. Decisions such as reducing UK steel production then importing it worsen global emissions, and damage our economy)

In addition, I can't vote for any other party, because:

Labour is increasing the welfare state and increasing tax, driving wealthy investors and talent overseas. This stifles economic growth.
Mostly Labour councils covered up the grooming gangs.

Conservatives are now saying everything they promised and should have done in their last 14 years in power. No one can trust them now

Greens are now nothing to do with the environment. They have formed a coalition between Socialists and Islamists. The last time that alliance took over a country together, Iran, it resulted in Socialists being massacred and hardline Islam taking over. Socialism sounds good in theory, but has never been good for the people in practice.

Libdems - want same high tax, high welfare policies as Labour, resulting in low growth economy. Won't stop immigration

Your Party - as per Greens but more extreme on Socialism and Islamism

Would be very interested to hear different opinions on the above!

BillieWiper · 27/01/2026 14:23

Yeah one in five it says. How is that 'MN backing Reform'?

Basic mathematics would indicate not many of us are. Let's not let that get in the way of a dross piece of 'journalism'.

Yip me too. Used to vote Tory. Never voted labour. The country is in such a mess. Will be voting reform in the scottish polls in May.

MellersSmellers · 17/02/2026 17:36

@Somemum1 and @PleaseGoAwayPain do you seriously think Farage and the inexperienced numpties he is surrounding himself with will be able to do anything to tackle our country's huge problems? No way.

treeowl · 17/02/2026 17:41

End illegal immigration, deport illegal immigrants, increase policing, reward working and productivity, scrap net zero to lower fuel costs for businesses and people, support farmers and manufacturing, rebuild our armed forces, encourage families

But how will they achieve this? We have an ageing population, that costs. How can services be improved whilst reducing tax take?! I want to believe utopia too!

hattie43 · 17/02/2026 17:41

I think the support for Reform is far bigger outside MN .

Twiglets1 · 17/02/2026 17:58

I can't access the article in The Independent. But it was also reported in The Telegraph on 13th January. I can relate to what this article says about more women feeling politically homeless:

The quiet Mumsnet revolution that could help Reform into power

It has been a reliable barometer of political intention since it first started polling its members in 2009.

Which is bad news for Keir Starmer. Because last week, a survey of more than 1,000 Mumsnet users indicated a major shift on the once famously Left-leaning site. Support for Labour has plummeted from 41 per cent in 2024 to 18 per cent, according to the poll, which was conducted in the second half of last year.

The survey showed that nearly a quarter of Mumsnet women – often politically engaged and willing to take no prisoners when it comes to debate – are now politically homeless. “Undecideds” have shot up from 8 per cent to 23 per cent.

But there is another more surprising surge – 20 per cent of its users intend to vote Reform, up from 14 per cent and the first time that Labour has been usurped by any party in the poll.

Coming out the ECHR will allow small boats to be stopped and illegal entrants returned .
Stopping Net Zero from bankrupting the nation .
Reducing the Welfare Bill
Reducing red tape and business rates to help growth .

I believe the above are some of their plans .

hattie43 · 17/02/2026 18:46

The country needs change to halt the terminal decline of this country . Labour are totally shambolic , the Tories have done little in the last 14 yrs to make people better off , the Greens and Lib Dem’s are inconsequential so let’s give Reform a chance .

Let’s give them a chance? This is por luck!! This is the future of the country!!

please just have a look at what is happening in the USA to get a glimpse of what to expect with Farage. It truly is scary.

scissy · 17/02/2026 18:54

At least two councils are already giving them a chance.
Having seen what a mess they are making of Kent, there is no way I'd vote for them. Plus, most of our local Reform candidates are former Conservative councillors who have jumped ship. So hardly voting "for change".

OhDear111 · 17/02/2026 18:55

@hattie43 and how do you think Reform will do anything with a bunch of failed Tories? They don’t have a clue. No major savings in the Reform run councils.

They will struggle like everyone else to change anything. That’s because the problems are not fixed by political rhetoric. We found that out with Brexit and the lambs are following Farage to the slaughter again! It’s unbelievable how naive some people are. They can promise the earth but they cannot deliver it.

nickelbabe · 17/02/2026 18:57

Jesus, this is depressing.
It's mindboggling that some people believe that grifters plan to do anything.

Somemum1 - most of your reasons are completely irrelevant to local council policies.

You do realise that we were able to turn back small boats as part of our membership of the EU, don't you.

See that sort of hysteria doesn’t sway me . Nothing Reform has said infers an intention to be like Trumps America. It’s this country I’m interested in and we have a piss poor selection of politicians anyway so why not give another party a chance .

But neither ruling party has so far done it .
