💯

I've read bits that Kemi told her that in the commons today and didn't hold back.

Kemi speech was one of the best I've heard for a while she was on fire. Humorous, cutting, and delivered with force. I normally think she is as useless as Starmer but today she did well.

Kemi sounded deranged

Cosywintervibes · 26/11/2025 19:44

@Bumblebee72 I wasn't sure about Kemi at the start she was a bit weak and wobbly however she's found her feet and turning into a strong leader. I thought her speech was on point today and was what a lot of people in the public are saying. Labour are all happy today, by Monday it will be a different story once the realisation of this budget dawns on them.

@Jellycatspyjamas that's terrible a £250 difference is a lot 😪

Genuine question how did she sound deranged?

Are you a steadfast Labour voter? I can see why someone might try this line if so.

No, just intelligent and independently minded, thanks for your interest

It is, but house prices are much cheaper and I’m paid a UK salary for a Scottish job.

In the longer term I won’t have tuition fees for my kids and my DC will get a bursary to support them if they go to university (because they’re care experienced), I don’t have any transport costs for them going to school, no prescription costs or eye tests costs, I don’t pay for parking at hospital (which is a significant cost cos my DD has a number of health conditions requiring hospital treatment).

So while I pay more, I’m better off over the piece.

Are you sure? Calling someone a shouty lady isn't the principal of intellectual observations 😀

Oh honestly, maybe they just disagree with you?

I don’t actually need to ask if you dislike Labour, I recognise the username, so if I was feeling like a lazy argument, I could suggest that because of that it makes sense that you’d praise Badenoch.

A google search (so not accurate) reckons there are 145000 houses worth £2m or above in the UK and the post budget PR reckons the average mansion tax scoop of £2500. Even if there were admins costs arising from reevaluations or legal disputes over the results (and there will be), this nest £3,600m only. So, it’ll likely be less. As the admin and survey costs will probably cost over £1000 per property. Has no-one run a back of the envelope calculation of this… it seems to be a rummaging for change in the back of the sofa exercise motivated by pure antipathy towards people in the south who are likely high income earners too?

Doh… £360m 🤦🏽‍♀️ ie not very much…

See also school fees VAT. Performative spite tax is their speciality, even if it costs us money.

peanutbuttertoasty · 26/11/2025 21:45

Kemi was magnificent. Everything Reeves got was well deserved.

Paul2023 · 26/11/2025 21:47

Still don’t know how they’ll get around the pay per miles with EVs. Cars under 3 years old are exempt from MOTs and I’d imagine dodgy car people will go back to mileage clocking..

With EV charging costs even being quite modest with a home charger , paying per mile will make it less attractive for EV owners.

Absolutely - I almost reference that when I posted. A spiteful, costly to administer, ineffectual tax that will generate little to no actual income, but the monkeys on the back benches will be clapping away - and Rach and Keir are safe for another year. Maybe.

Paul2023 · 26/11/2025 22:19

VAT to private school fees complete waste of time that would barely make any difference to the coffers

peanutbuttertoasty · 26/11/2025 22:21

Also of note... absolutely zero mention of education in the budget today. They really don't give a shit about education at all do they. Aspirations in the ground.

Cosywintervibes · 26/11/2025 23:42

The shit will hit the fan for Labour soon when they realise that there's no economic growth, unemployment up, businesses closing etc. Rachel will be back in April for more £££ that's if her and Kier make it that long.

In these times we need strong leadership from a PM with clear communication and a chancellor who will make tough decisions like cutting the welfare bill. What we do have is Rachel and Kier who are scared of the public, media and the Labour Party.

The Education secretary is making a plan for education including sen and will deliver it shortly they said today.

This givt is a joke

Quite.

GaIadriel · 27/11/2025 00:12

There's plenty of people like me that could take a lot of cash payments if we wanted and only pay the right amount as a matter of principle. Not sure how long that'll be the case tbh!
