No one wants to risk losing their hard earned savings to 'help the economy', that's what we already pay taxes for. If they brought in FSCS protection for capital in S&S ISAs at least you would know you couldn't lose money.

There is FSCS protection. But it doesn’t protect against investment risk, and neither should it.

Not really addressing the actual points of the budget though.

Yes she did. Tax everything and spend on welfare.

VanCleefArpels · 26/11/2025 14:00

Yes that’s exactly the reason why people don’t buy properties. Facile comment.

Landlordism is a disease

I saw one woman on TikTok who spends her child benefit on a “stock up” shop of her toiletries. It should be abolished, not increased.

Do you think she wouldn’t buy the toiletries without it?
or do you think the kids might miss out on stuff so she could still buy them?

Bumblebee72 · 26/11/2025 14:05

That was the best I think I have ever seen Kemi - actually quite impressed given she doesn't see much before.

Lou7171 · 26/11/2025 14:05

Bumblebee72 · 26/11/2025 13:52

Good speech from Kemi, but it should really be Reform responding as the next government.

Are you keeping up with the news at all? Racism, Russian links.. God, the newly elected local reform councillors haven't a clue, they're clearly struggling with the practicalities of running local government. Just watch some of their council meetings, it's painful to watch. It would be a disaster to have them in power.

I meant some slightly more specific criticisms of specific policies really.

Bumblebee72 · 26/11/2025 14:06

All be it the Omni-Fuck-Up it is a bit of an open goal for Kemi to score in...

I don’t care. Fund your own kids.

Absolutely. It was just belittling sound bites. Not really addressing the budget. Let’s be honest, she should have done, what with their being a heads up on it all.

maddiemookins16mum · 26/11/2025 14:07

The removal of the two child cap probably won’t mean people will go on to have babies they (still) can’t afford, what it will do is mean that those who should be working more to look after their current families will now have even more opportunity not to and leave it to the Govt.

Still well ahead in the polls. You may be happy with the level of bullshit from government but many of us want change.

Great speech

Thought Badenoch was great and summed up what so many are thinking. Maybe there’s hope left for the conservatives?

And you're happy that the change comes from a party who can barely keep it's elected members out of prison? The Nathan Gill story should have been huge.

Child benefit is a separate matter to what has been scrapped. Everyone earning less than 60 thousand a year is entitled to child benefit.

What's been scrapped is the 2 child limit for the child element of universal credit. It will unlikely benefit those who have no intention of working and spit out child after child as the overall benefit cap is still in place. Whereas, low income working families who rely on UC would benefit.

There is mass misunderstanding of this 🙄

Edited

But it won't though will it? They'll still be subject to the overall cap

I know it’s a “thing” in the House of Commons, and absolutely done by all parties. But are these people incapable of listening without jeering, laughing, or cheering - 5 year olds in an assembly are better behaved.

This stood out to me too- absolutely disgraceful. A national embarrassment.

memyselfandI2025 · 26/11/2025 14:12

NotThatWay · 26/11/2025 12:32

Also her Big Budget Reveal, ending the two child benefit cut - totally punctured.

But no one will benefit from the change as there is still an overall benefit cap still in place ? So the only people to benefit from this rule being lifted is families who have disabled children or working over a certain amount of hours making you exempt from the overall benefit cap. So not many existing families will actually see any of the money

They won't through. Kids born into poverty generally end having children in poverty. The way you solve it is reduce the number of kids born into poverty. There is a reason there are more gambling shops in deprived areas. Giving people more money doesn't suddenly make them financial responsible.
