What can an individual do to keep Reform out?

Thepoliticsofchaos · 09/10/2025 22:45

I have a young friend (a university student) who is getting depressed about the prospect of Reform getting in next election. He thinks that the UK is fucked, basically. He's left-leaning, I assume a Labour voter. I've advised him to get politically engaged (so that in the future he'll at least be able to feel that he did what he could). He's not the most outgoing of people, though is interested in politics. Can anyone suggest how he could become usefully politically engaged to try to reduce the Reform vote? Not just joining a party and turning up to meetings, but actually doing something?

Precisely. That’s exactly how I feel. It is so important that these women are heard and that they have their own untainted platform.

No one else is giving them one.

Labour refused to even speak to Maggie Oliver!

Yep, and Ms Reynold's motivations are now being questioned because she shared a stage with Farage.

BIossomtoes · 27/10/2025 19:24

Are they? I think she’s being groomed again - by Farage this time.

That's a terrible thing to say. Implying she has no agency or ability to make her own choices. I will report that comment.

Reform are built for this sort of issue. And are obviously ahead in the polls; Nigel Farage could be our next PM and its right that he takes this on if Labour wont.Plus he has huge press attention every time he holds a conference so she's on the right track.

Go ahead. It’s an opinion and I don’t see how it contravenes MN guidelines.

TheNuthatch · 27/10/2025 19:08

As do all politicians, of every stripe. This is not unique to Farage.
Would you say the same if one of the victims shared a stage with Starmer or Davey?

Did you not read my post that I thought it should be handled away from all politicians?

You think she shared a stage with Farage because he is grooming her? Can you hear yourself? That's an abhorrent accusation.

You're implying that Ellie-Ann Reynolds is being groomed for a second time by Farage, the first time being as a rape gang victim. Shame on you.

Having said that, it's that sort of cruel and unpleasant comment that just adds to the impression that the rape gang victims are fighting the left wing establishment and only Reform support them in an honest and open way. True colours being shown.

Having said that I'm seldom shocked by MN but am in this case. Really cruel and unnecessary and unpleasant. Imagine if a victim read that sort of comment from another woman. Terrible.

BIossomtoes · 27/10/2025 20:59

Political grooming is hardly new. What do you think Isis did to Shemina Begum and her two friends? Grooming isn’t exclusively sexual. Farage is using her for political gain.

'I think she is being groomed again - by Farage this time'

Those were your words when talking about a survivor of grooming gangs in Rotherham.
Back peddling won't help. I'm not often shocked on here but this is on another level.

Is she?

She's someone who has been through things we cannot even imagine. Give her the credit she's due, why won't you?

You didn't say "political" grooming. You said Nigel Farage was grooming someone who was on that podium solely due to being a victim of a grooming rape gang.

I think your political bias ran away with you there. You've been extraordinarily unpleasant. Possibly libellous in the context of your comment/the topic of conversation.

This is the caring left, everyone.

Leavesfalling · 27/10/2025 21:57

Oh and likening the leader of the party ahead in the polls to a member of Isis is a new low in political argument. Pathetic.

BIossomtoes · 27/10/2025 21:58

Baroness Hale showed during Brexit that she was unable to be politically impartial.

I’ve only just seen this gem. It was illegal to prorogue parliament and a cross section of judges confirmed that with a 70 page judgement. To quote you I think your political bias ran away with you there. Unbelievable.

Were you scouring the thread to distract from your abhorrent immoral comment? Nice try. I won't engage now weve all seen the type of argument you make.

Well true it is an opinion that doesn't contravene MN rules.

But as other posters have noted- it's a deeply unpleasant opinion.

I think what is interesting about your comment is that it clearly demonstrates the cult like intolerance from the far left who refuses to go along with their views.

I mean it takes a special level of hatred and intolerance to turn on a woman that has been sexually abused just because she is associating with a particular politician.

BIossomtoes · 27/10/2025 23:26

I agree entirely so it’s good that isn’t what’s happened. I feel very strongly that it’s important that these women are heard and there should be an independent inquiry to allow that to happen. My intolerance is entirely directed at Farage for exploiting her to score political points. I have nothing but respect for Reynolds and the other women for their courage in speaking out. I feel indignation on her behalf that she’s being used in this way.

So your view is that because she is a grooming victim then it's not a good look for the far left to criticise her. So instead to make it more palatable to the far left, by sharing a stage with Farage, then she is being "politically groomed" and had no agency in making the decision herself to attend or not.

How about she took the decision herself to attend?

BIossomtoes · 28/10/2025 00:18

Without an invitation?

I know. It's painful reading some of these things. I watched her. She was confident, articulate, knew why she was there. She was asked the question why she was sitting next to NF and had a perfectly reasonable reply. I suspect if youve been through what shes been through she won't be pushed around any more and will make her own decisions. Hence quitting the corrupt investigation. She's clearly nobodys fool despite some posters on here suggesting she is unable to make her own choices.

People like the PP are unable to see past their political bias to the detriment of the truth and the interests of rape victims.

Not so strongly though. Not if she's sitting next to someone you don't approve of.

The press conferences from NF are a distraction to the corruption of his girlfriend.

Where is NF criticism of the tory investigation into the grooming gang and kicking it down the road for years?

"The press conferences from NF are a distraction to the corruption of his girlfriend."

I'm more interested in a national rape gang scandal which affects thousands than one girlfriend of an MP. That's not the priority at the moment.

Seems to be that farage isn't interested in an investigation into Prince Andrew, he just thinks Andrew should go away and lead a quiet life www.threads.com/@antoguerrera/post/DQUw__TDqgC/media
