Two questions about yesterday's march

I'm sure that someone can help me on this, but why does [whoever gives permission for marches in london] allow 2 conflicting marches on the same day? It seems that keeping the marches appart was the biggest problem.
From the news, it looks as though Elon Musk was broadcast from the screen on the BFI. Why did they give permission for it, as it was basically an incitement to overthrow the government)?

It does seem odd , a patriot getting a foreigner to call for the end of parliamentary democracy by means of a violent revolution. I suppose he just figures if it turns into a shooting war he can just fly off to the sun , using his foreign passport?

Don't go to America though Tommy. Place is a nuthouse. Somewhere nice and safe in the EU , much better.

StewkeyBlue · 14/09/2025 20:34

Lifeinthepit · 14/09/2025 08:31

Do you think Elon Musk should be banned from speaking?

It would also mean anyone calling for sharia law should be banned as that too calls for the overthrow of the existing law and system of government.

@Lifeinthepit can you please link to evidence that Sharia law calls for the overthrow of the existing law and government?

If America will let him in after he tried to slip in there using a false passport.

I agree that it was horrific the way London was invaded by people waving far-right symbols, replacing our traditional Palestinian flags.

sciaticafanatica · 14/09/2025 18:11

But how do you know I wasn’t there?
so many pissed abusive people but yet less arrests than the Notting Hill carnival.
what about people being scared when pro Palestine marches are allowed or do they not matter??
freedom of speech is allowed, not agreeing with it is allowed. Being scared is allowed.
scaremongering is just ridiculous

Recounting a lived experience is not scaremongering.

AI slop

Thanks for the replies.
Fwiw I disliked the matches for Palestine, which seemed to be occurring on almost a weekly basis.
But why did the authorities allow a counter demonstration on the same day? Given that clashes between the groups caused the disruption, when not make the counter marchers protest a week later?

I dont need "evidence". I just need a brain. We have only one law in this country that applies to all of us and is (mostly) made by an elected Parliament. If you are calling for sharia law you are calling for a different legal system based on a religion dictat and which is not made by our elected government.

Yes great answer. That told me!

Redburnett · 15/09/2025 09:27

Google AI says:
Reports from September 2025 indicate that Elon Musk delivered a speech via video link at a far-right rally in London organized by activist Tommy Robinson. However, sources do not specify who provided the screen for the video link.

As of September 2025, there is no evidence of Elon Musk delivering a speech at a British Film Institute (BFI) event. The association in your query likely stems from recent reports about his controversial virtual address at a large far-right rally in London on Saturday, September 13, 2025, which was unrelated to the BFI.

Sausagenbacon · 15/09/2025 09:54

thank you Redburnett. My mistake.

Your forgetting how anti-English the Scots are - and then there’s the sectarianism-really annoys me the holier than thou pretence of the Scots. So inclusive?? Really?

My family is Scottish going back many generations but I was born in England and have an English accent. After decades travelling in Scotland, we have now retired to a Scottish city. We’ve been made to feel extremely welcome. No apparent anti-English sentiment?

Boomer55 · 15/09/2025 17:51

WolfingtonBear · 14/09/2025 17:19

I live in London. I live close to part of the march route & saw 1000s of people on their way to attend it but didn’t actively join it myself. “Fucking terrifying display of barely contained violent racism” it was no such thing! Honestly the absolute lies people will tell to support their own political view point beggars belief.

And me. It wasn’t even mildly terrifying in London. It was two groups shouting. That’s it. 🤷‍♀️

But that doesn’t make for an interesting story does it?

WaryCrow · 15/09/2025 18:32

It’s that old problem of how do we tolerate the intolerant, in a time when the centre ground appears to be vanishing and there is no good faith to an ideal beyond personal power.

Plenty where I am, unfortunately.

They should both have been banned, as there’s enough chaos with FA cup final day.

Two idiot groups trying to yell at each other, at vast cost and aggravation. 🙄

Riapia · 17/05/2026 20:03

There were two organised protest marches.
Surely to hold an organised protest it should be essential to have to be able to provide proof of having adequate insurance to compensate for any damage to persons and property.

There were two marches because the Unite the Kingdom match had been "booked" with the police for the 17th May quite some time ago. Then at a later date the pro Palestinian match applied for the same day.

Rather than be portrayed as being biased "sorry Pro Palestinian March" can you do another day, the police agreed to run both on the same day but keep them apart.

Total cost of policing these marches was £4 to £5 million.

Well, that's something we can certainly all agree on.

The Nakba Day march is an annual remembrance

Do you not wonder why TR decided to hold his rally at the same day? Any chance it's deliberate you think ?

tripleginandtonic · 14/09/2025 20:02

Do you care about violence against the police as well out of interest?

I do. I care about a police woman being
clouted with a sledgehammer by a lunatic lefty protesting about some Palestinian cause. Imagine the horror of a sledgehammer being swung at you. He should be up for attempted murder.

AuntieFah · 19/05/2026 17:05

You now, protesting against immigration when you are from a country whose history, culture, and people are the result of two thousand years of invasions and settlement from foreign nations and which spent the last five centuries busy colonising the rest of the world is beyond ironic.

There hasn’t been a constant flow of a million people coming here every year for those two thousand years. It happened on one or two big occasions, the collapse of the Roman Empire and the attempts by Charlemagne to rebuild it further north. Nor did most of our people invade full lands elsewhere. There were never many even of the British elite in India and China.

The country is already full. Overpopulated and with not enough room to feed and house those already here. The numbers of people you are overproducing in your own countries are not our doing.
