Why are Israels nukes never mentioned

During the recent bombing of Iran, I have not heard any mention of Israels nuclear weapons. They are not publicly acknowledged or part of the IAEA inspections, yet Israel and the US have the right to decide what other countries do....? Please don't tell me how horrendous Iran is. Its not carrying out a genocide as far as I can tell....

Strategic ambiguity. It's not clear how they would deliver, how many they have, how fast they could deploy, what threshold of provocation they would apply before using the nuke. On their own neighbours would literally heavily contaminate and harm their own population too (tiny country).

So strategic ambiguity. Very big hidden stick.

It's amazing anything remotely anti Israel on here gets deleted. The state and the media don't like the fact that people don't support Israel's actions. We don't support them because they are wrong. You can't justify killing innocent children by carpet bombing residential areas.....it's wrong Mumsnet so stop deleting peoples outrage

The only genocidal mindset? Not the various proxies that Iran funds whose stated missions are to wipe out Israel, or even Jewish people as a whole?

I’m not sure why people support Iran doing this on here.

Not you I mean pp and generally.

dubsie · 10/07/2025 11:50

We don't support Iran, but we question why a country like Israel has Nukes but refuses inspection and refuses to acknowledge the fact. And then we are bombing a country because they have uranium enrichment.

Iran hasn't invaded anyone and yet Israel is now in Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Iran. Iran's supreme leader hasn't been accused of war crimes while Netanyahu risks arrest in Europe.

Surely you can see why people are questioning the action. Why wouldn't Iran want Nukes now.

Are you in the U.K.?

There’s a reason all EU leaders also agree it’s too much of a risk to let Iran have nuclear weapons. Do you want to take that risk?

Are your feelings on Israel strong enough to want to see what happens if they get nuclear weapons

pinkglitter12 · 10/07/2025 12:04

Iran signed the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. They are breaking a legal contract.
Israel has not signed

Not all Hamas is bad? Of course they are. They're a terrorist group. Their founding charter called for the killing of Jewish people, which they did on a huge scale on 7th October. It's illegal to support them in the UK.

Tg we have laws here re supporting proscribed terrorists online. SM would be out of control without that.

MushMonster · 10/07/2025 12:41

Oh yeah, I am interested in their nuclear asset and policies indeed. After reading up on how they got the radioactive materials in the first place. I was and am shocked! I do want these guys registered, inspected and fully accounted for. I do not trust them at all.

dairydebris · 10/07/2025 12:46

Because in the big grown up world of global politics ( as opposed to self hating western lefty liberals on mumsnet ) no one actually believes Israel will use their nukes any more inappropriately than the UK, France or the US would.

thethingthatshouldnotbee · 10/07/2025 13:01

@dubsie

So what parts of Hamas do you think aren't bad then?

Except your comments are not just 'remotely anti Israel'. It's a shame your first post was deleted and I hope they don't delete your further comments that 'all of Hamas' are not so bad so that people can see your true colours.

Sorry, is that aimed at me?

There should be no need for nuclear weapons at all, no country should have them. So while I'm against Iran country having a nuclear weapon I'm also reluctant to bombing them because they are close to getting one.

Iran will likely pursue this with even more vigor now, an nuclear powered alliance may provide assistance....who knows. With a mindset of bombing and then trying to negotiate seems self destructive.

Israel has bombed indiscriminately in residential areas forcing thousands of people out of there homes. They have killed thousands of children. They didn't have to do this they could have targeted the terrorists....it's like the British carpet bombing Northern Ireland. Yet this Israel has nuclear weapons. I'm more afraid of Israel at the moment than Iran.

Well I wouldn't vote for them if that's what your asking. I'm saying you should hunt down those that seek violence and terrorism and work with people who seek peace. The British call it winning hearts and minds....we did it in Iraq and Afghanistan and it worked.

It's how we got peace in Northern Ireland....

Sometimes you have to broker peace with groups you may not share common values with you.... violence just leads to more violence

While winning hearts and minds in Iraq the UK and USA killed approximately 120,000 civilians. Double the number that Israel has.

Have you asked yourself why youre more afraid of Israel than Iran given that a terror plot by Iran was recently foiled in the UK?

Like the British did in Dresden?

And that's the problem, the threat within. All these conflicts don't actually make us safer and even if we removed the leadership in Iran would it change anything. Would it just create even more instability.

I'm a great believer that with time countries move towards democracy. I hope in time Iranians will get the choice who runs there country. But even early democracies come with risk....look at Russia.

We now face threats from Russia and Iran and I highly suspect they will work together.

It's like everything, even allies can sabotage but what we now face is something far more serious.

That doesn't really answer the question.

dubsie · 11/07/2025 19:04

My view is if you don't talk how will you ever find a consensus. Terrorism or violence has no place in politics and you must pursue the perpetrators robustly but also proportionately.

Yasser Arafat brought peace when everyone thought it was impossible. This guy was no stranger to conflict but sometimes a conversation can change things. This is a classic example of why you always pursue peace because it might just actually work and why winning peoples minds is more important than winning by conflict

Still doesn't explain what you think is good about Hamas but okay.

MellersSmellers · 13/07/2025 09:39

Yes it's completely hypocritical and it's because Israel has the unconditional backing of the US and so literally gets away with murder.
Am I concerned that such a country has nuclear weapons? Hell Yeah. The things that Netanyahu has done recently such as bombing women and children waiting for food supplements are atrocious.
And threatening Iran through violence in my opinion makes it likely they will pursue nuclear weapons with even more vigour in my opinion, so completely counter-productive.
