Yoo-hoo! Melania!

There was quite a bit of interest when I'd posted about Melania Trump, so I thought I'd share this. She generally comes off as the most aloof, least involved First Lady (although now set to monetize her name), but there was another article about her being so absent. She was not even accompanying Trump when he had to be in court from his trial.

She's still using her son as an excuse, claiming she needs to be in New York (i.e. not with her husband). But I don't know for how long she can claim this, because most kids, by the time they're 18 and in college - normal kids, that is - don't necessarily want to spend a lot of time with their mothers.

A Most Sensitive Subject in the White House: Where Is Melania?
By Shawn McCreesh

Every marriage has its highs and lows, but as with so many other things, the Trumps are in a league of their own. In the span of just a few months last year, the couple endured a public trial about his philandering, two assassination attempts and a presidential campaign...

She was asked where she planned to spend most of her time this term.

“I will be in the White House,” she answered. “And, you know, when I need to be in New York, I will be in New York. When I need to be in Palm Beach, I will be in Palm Beach. But my first priority is, you know, to be a mom, to be a first lady, to be a wife. And once we are in on Jan. 20, you serve the country.”

I'm sure she speaks very highly of you too 😂

I imagine that, like her husband, she's disdainful of anyone not among the ultra-wealthy elite/powerful.

Trump's biographer says the relationship between the two is purely transactional. Melania will do the bare minimum to fulfil her part of the pact. And there's nothing Trump can do about it because he's scared of her.

Paraphrasing from Rest is Politics interview with the writer.

Why is he scared of her?

The less I see of Trump's family members, the better.

Not sure why family members of the US president end up being eyed up for future presidencies either. The Bushes actually did it. Clinton was president so his wife also had a go. People talking about Michelle Obama running. Don't the US know that nepotism is bad?

GOD how I wish we’d had Michelle rather than this orange twat!

GOD how I wish we’d had Michelle rather than this orange twat!

She was so classy as First Lady but seems to have lost her way since. She has a podcast with her brother where she just whines about her life, her husband, her empty nest. She goes on talk shows to whine - mainly about her husband. Says she's had therapy to cope with being a multi millionaire ex FLOTUS.

xanthomelana · 30/05/2025 08:02

I don’t give it a second thought tbh, same way I never think about Starmer’s wife or her whereabouts. The wives and husbands of the people in power are not elected so why would anyone care where they are?

So, you're saying that as First Lady, she graciously and patriotically rose to the occasion and tried hard to fulfill the post as well as possible, squelching her own personal inclinations? How admirable!

Sorry, here I thought I was quite clear as to why people make unkind remarks about Melania. She's uneducated, has done nothing to improve herself, has not had any admirable career, seems indifferent to the public, hasn't exerted herself in any way other than in decoration, and is generally considered a gold-digger. And doesn't seem to much care for her husband, either.

I've never seen her posting bitchy comments about other women on internet forums, so based purely on the facts available to me I'd say she appears to have a better character than you!

She married a man who became president, and she appears to have no interest in playing his adoring wife on the world stage. Possibly because she's European and to most Europeans the whole 'first lady' thing appears not just ridiculous but very, very sexist. Or possibly because she doesn't fancy bending over backwards to try to impress the likes of you. I have no idea whether she's educated, whether she's done anything 'to improve herself' (!), or what her relationship is like with her husband. Maybe they have a wonderful, mutually respectful and fun-filled marriage, and she just doesn't much fancy putting it on display to be mocked and ridiculed. Or maybe she despises him and just wants his money. Though she could just divorce him and take his money, and probably at least double that by just selling mean stories about him. So presumably she chooses to stay, and I can't imagine why I would think it any of my business to speculate why.

Er no! I think she relished being First Lady (Melania clearly doesn't), did a great job and has struggled since leaving the WH and whines endlessly about it.

Really. I’m astonished to hear this. How disappointing. What does she say about Obama? Maybe their marriage really is in trouble.

I'm sorry, but that's just silly.
I'm not First Lady. I'm not comparing her to me (although I'm better educated than she is). I'm comparing her to other First Ladies. Based on that, she's one of the worst.
As to her divorcing him, she has gone through multiple re-negotiations of her pre-nup contract with Trump, so presumably she's making him pay progressively more.

Actually, no, Michelle Obama didn't particularly like being First Lady, which is why although tons of people have mused about the possibility of her running for president, she's not interested. However, unlike Melania, Michelle has a grasp of what is expected of a First Lady just as a matter of courtesy, tradition, and patriotism.

Do you consider yourself a feminist?

I've always assumed she's his KGB minder and has martial arts skills to equal those displayed by an ex Mrs Murdoch. I reckon she's earned some time off.

That would be hilarious. I'd love to see her step in to incapacitate anyone attempting to attack Trump.
