Not seen a thread on this. There's been hints of this attitude but seeing it 'in writing' feels a bit shocking, not to mention inaccurate and unfair.

In the same chat about hitting targets in Yemen, US Vice-President JD Vance seemingly said: "I just hate bailing Europe out again."

Now, come on! They do look million times better than Trump's guys!
And, at least, they are not tories....😀

That’s the trouble right there, “they’re not Tories” is the type of tribal mentality that has given us a sanctimonious, hypocritical, lying shower who are not fit to be in government.

They’re despised by people across the political spectrum.

Lied to pensioners, veterans, disabled, small businesses, farmers, WASPI women, council tax payers, energy bills payers and that list has probably missed somebody out.

So no, they don’t “look a million times better than Trump’s guys laughing face” at all.

They are making everyone in this country poorer and we’re going down the pan faster than you can count the amount of freebies Labour have been lapping up.

Eight months in and deeply unpopular. They are quite frankly an embarrassment on the world stage and it’s no wonder they had to go begging to get a meeting at the Oval Office.

Err… did you miss their help beating Germany in not one but two European wars?

They "saved the day" after our armies had done the leg work with a lot of fighting and bloodshed over YEARS and then the US come in right at the very end and claim they won it. It's absolutely PATHETIC.

You could have said all the making us poorer and lying about the Tories too, because the did. Year on year on year on year...

I rest my case/ QED / boom!

They’ve lied on their manifesto promises, crashed the economy, putting many businesses and people out of work, recession looming and more cuts to benefits are being announced tomorrow by Labour.

The “Europeans are freeloaders” mindset ignores the fact that America ENCOURAGED Europe to spend less on defence and to focus on rebuilding after WWII. It was in America’s interests to make Europe dependent on their protection, either via US troops in European bases (I live near 2 USAF bases in East Anglia) or later with us dependent on US defence contractors who coin it in by overcharging and making us beholden to their never ending software upgrades, etc without which half of the equipment is useless - see what happened after the withdrawal from Afghanistan as evidence.

America has made plenty of money out of Europe over the last 80 years.

MushMonster · 25/03/2025 21:30

Well, you can have Reform next. They are good friends with Putin and Trump. Imagine.
Because the Tories dug their own grave where they will remain forever. They are not even trying to leave the bottom of the barrel.

SomewhereinSuberbia · 25/03/2025 21:59

I think their comments however crass were more to do with the Houti rebel mission, not Europe in general.

The commercial shipping that goes through the Red Sea that the Houti's attacked affected the shipping of the US by only 2% but it has affected European shipping by 40%. They were saying that they should not have to endanger US lives to protect our shipping lane.

MushMonster · 25/03/2025 22:10

We should grow independant from this transport route.
Middle East is far too volatile.
Do we all know that Putin wants to set a naval base in Sudan? This could turn far too crowded.

China does have a really heavy investment in Africa. I think we could see a change of production in Africa, rather than all the way across the ME for the chinese trade.

Not sure about India, Korea and Japan goods. I love their foods!

For someone so keen to talk down the current US administration, you’re noticeably quiet on the disastrous one we’ve got in the UK in the form of Labour. What was it again? “For the many, not the few”.

Instead all you have to say is “Tories/Reform”.

Nothing makes Labour look competent. Nothing.

You are confusing competence with 'has policies I disagree with'.

If you want to be reminded of incompetence, may I suggest the Bibby Stockholm from the Tories. Something that the orange idiot would have endorsed, no doubt.

No I’m not confusing competence with “policies I disagree with”. Yet another one whose only response is “Tories”.

Yes, because I could not wait for the previous government to vanish into thin air.
I do not love this Labour, but they are what we have. They have not made up the problems we have to face. Some of said problems were there before they started. Some have been added- like having to spend more in weapons. In times of crisis, better to fully back up what you have. So here we are.

The current US administration can talk itself down. It does not need anyone's help. At low, they are really good. And they do it on very purpose.

QED nothing. It was a poorly made case.

People didn’t want the Tories out because of a tribal mindset. They wanted them out because they did all of the things you have accused labour of doing repeatedly over the last 14years.

And Starmer is arguably much less of an international laughing stock than any of the last 5 PMs. He’s actually improving our international reputation.

And none created by a Labour? Eg a tax on work halving growth leading to welfare cuts and even more cuts tomorrow.

Really. You seriously look at the US and we are doing as badly as them? Not convinced you're looking closely enough. I'm not delighted with Labour but they are better than the terrible government we had before who have trashed our economy and trust in politics.

Wirewool · 25/03/2025 23:27

I didn’t need to make a case, it was blindingly obvious. You’re another one who can only hark on about the Tories and fail to see what is happening now.

Labour campaigned on change yet are maintaining the policies of the previous govt and in some cases going even further. They’re forcing the sick into work!

Thanks for the huge laugh that he’s improving our international reputation. Where did you get that idea? (Please don’t answer, I know it’s going to be utterly ridiculous).

Nobody outside of Europe knows who he is, everything he says is irrelevant and his grandstanding abroad is pointless.

Tribal allegiance is a refusal to acknowledge the current shitshow that is this Labour government. They’ve pissed off everyone at home when it should have easily been a honeymoon period after the long reign of the Tories in power. This will be their downfall.

Coming up, no tax on overtime pay, more money back in workers pockets.

Here? More welfare cuts coming up and trust in politics is gone given the lies on Labour’s manifesto promises and yeah, crashing the economy.

Which tax on work? They have not taxed workers more.
If it is about the employers NI contribution, we already had that discussion. I think big companies should not pay millions to their top management plus massive bonuses. So they can take it from there. Also, for smaller business, they will have to up their prices a bit. The consumer has not lost money (actually, some got more with the increase to minimum wage), so the consumer should be able to pay a bit more. I think it is tge first lot digging their hills who is the problem.
You think we will go into recession. I think we will not.
There is a great opportunity for growth here, sadly: own IT systems, coding, IT protection, tech development, banking software, asset management systems and weapons manufacturing and development. Designed in house, made in house and for the weapons, hopefully, never used.

Also, I hear that USS Indianapolis sinking wasn't much fun. Or the Pacific theatre in general. I read about the pig basket atrocity, and wished I hadn't.

Blimey you recall info but it’s not correct. I have said we are closer to recession which is a fact but not certain. Were you the we definitely won’t poster?

But yes tax on work as anti growth. OBR halving growth this week. 1% is stalling territory and Reeves / Starmer will need the private sector to do heavy lifting to get out of it. Increased NI does the opposite.

MushMonster · 25/03/2025 23:59

Ok, sorry, close to recession then.

I think if we do want to live in a country where a full time job gets you a living, then we have to take action now. Or pay benefits forever, which is a faster way of getting to that recession, plus spiralling debt. Really, corporations need to reduce their profit margins and top wages to match reality. There is far too much money in too few hands. Money needs to be put into the pockets of the working class. Otherwise the economy will freeze.
What Starmer cannot do is put us through all this to then lift taxes for the US tech companies (spoken about in other thread about the Yemen operation leaks or this one previous pages). If we go through all this tightening of the belt, I do want a country where a full time job gets you a living, the average wage can buy the average house and you can make an appointment with a GP, been seen in A&E within a day... at the end of it. Not yet more money sent abroad, to a poor billionaire.

Trump is creating international discord and is going to wreck their economy particularly for those on a low income which will ultimately not make America great but ruin it's international relationships for a long rime. This is will harm the poorest in the US.

Labour haven't crashed the economy. Truss did that. Johnson broke what trust there was in politics with his many antics including breaking the lockdown laws he had introduced, unlawfully prorouging parliament, cash for peers etc I could go on. Don't get me wrong Labour are a lukewarm disappointment but they nowhere near as bad as the Tories.

I disagree. There's a massive fiscal hole in the UK finances, caused by the Tories who focussed on making things better for the richer people in society for fourteen years and underfunding everything. There are plenty of people who can afford to pay a bit more in order to restore public services to what they should be. For a govt with a huge majority, the time for the hard and unpopular choices is early on in their term. I wish to goodness that we were not so fixated on low taxation in the UK. Better to pay a bit more and have a fairer society.

That approach is why the economy is shrinking though.
