Musk donating £80m to Reform

Is anyone else a mix of depressed and scared about this scenario playing out? In a nutshell:

  • Musk reportedly donating £80m to Farage
  • Musk seeking UK citizenship via his grandmother's nationality in order to do ate and influence UK politics
  • Will use his skewed algorithm to boost his own X lists svc those of right wing mouthpieces - Tommy Robinson etc to destabilise UK electorate and undermine the government and Conservatives, resulting in a Reform win.

Reform and the tories will never merge. I'm not tory but there are too many sensible tories. And too many sensible tory voters who would be horrified.
Reform do not have wide public support.. they do have loud public support but it's not the same.

They will absolutely do an election pact though and not stand in each others back yard. You know it.

Seymour5 · 05/01/2025 06:42

@Thatcastlethere I believe support for Reform will keep growing if the current government continue to ignore public concerns about immigration, fuel costs, pensions, the NHS, care, housing etc. The refusal to address the grooming and abuse of children in Oldham is disgraceful. The response by Wes Streeting to thousands of pensioners being severely affected by the inability to keep warm was unbelievable. ‘Layer up and put the heating on’. Seriously?

dottiehens · 05/01/2025 07:06

What is terrifying for the U.K. is that KS is giving Reform the best chance at the next elections.

billysboy · 05/01/2025 07:31

The inability of the other parties from both sides to recognise and address a large number of people’s concerns has allowed Farage to flourish

This 100%, he wouldn't be getting a look in if the parties didn't ignore the bits of the electorate that they don't align with and leave them feeling disenfranchised and therefore open to voting for a party that's (in this case) probably to the right of what they actually want. Appealing to people who would vote for you regardless is a poor strategy but one they persist with.

ruffler45 · 05/01/2025 07:49

As far as I can see Reform only has 1 item on its agenda/manifesto, so I am very wary about what they could do if they got into power and so should everyone.

SallyWD · 05/01/2025 07:56

I find it all very scary. Those saying Reform don't have a chance, sadly I think they might. There are loads of former Conservative voters who are turning to Refirm. People seem to despise Starmer (not me, but many do).

What’s that one thing?

glowinggg · 05/01/2025 15:14

@Seymour5 there have been enquiries though. And Jess Phillips has done more than most people to advocate against VAWG. And not sure how you can suggest this government is ignoring public concerns about the NHS & housing - these are two of their main areas of policy.

Interesting development with Musk's comment about removing Farage today. He clearly has no political intellect.

Why is Musk constantly sticking his nose into British politics? It certainly won't be for any altruistic reason.

He's testing if he's powerful enough to bring down a democracy.

Zouks · 05/01/2025 15:33

But isn't this the same as what Rupert Murdock has done for years?

When physical media dies it follows that those in charge of tech media will jump into their place.

Quit (Twitter X) if you haven't already. You're fuelling a cesspit if you keep giving him a voice.

Everyone deserves a voice that’s heard. In public where of it’s stupid, we can say so.

that’s why blue sky will drop dead.

Do you think Reform
would do better or worse without Farage at the helm?

Yes but if enough people want that - I assume mean end and reversal of migration, and the public vote for it- that’s what will happen.

Why does he need to piss about here when he got Trump elected?

He's a megalomaniac. Full on power obsessive and thinks his ideas are better and more important than anyone else's.

I don’t agree with you. I think he’s a disrupter and just the one we needed to shake this country out of managed decline and shame about our history and culture.

aren’t opinions wonderful.

MrsSchrute · 05/01/2025 16:05

Yeah, I don't think Reform will be getting anything!

I've been following this on GB News today. Apparently Tommy Robinson said he'd like to see Ben Habib lead Reform.

Ben Habib just told Nana Akua he would lead the party if asked.🙈

Lcsucks · 05/01/2025 16:14

Yep worrying and weird

Dumped it a few years back. And Reddit. Musk himself was a Twitter addict before he bought the platform. So is Trump of course. When is the last time they shut up and listened to a human being I wonder.

TizerorFizz · 05/01/2025 16:21

Well snakes turn round and bite don’t they? They are all in the snake pit together. It needs starving of oxygen.

SuzieNine · 05/01/2025 16:22

Just looking forward to the inevitable Musk/Trump fallout. It’s going to be hilarious.
