HIKE IN TAXES/BENEFITS

Just thinking..we’re expecting all sorts of horrors with tax rises everywhere and bracing ourselves for the Budget. The Government need to afford to pay, amongst other things, for social care.

One family I know receive £5,200 per month in Benefits due to three children having ADHD. Me and my husband work 50 hours a week and earn less than that 😳

Another family were offered a mobility car ..they are wealthy with good incomes and were offered either a brand new Audi, BMW or Mercedes. Even they were questioning why it had to be an upmarket car and, therefore, a bigger cost to the Tax Payer!

This thread is classic! Well done OP. What's your next attempt going to be, I wonder?

Thanks for replies

We received a Government payment a few years ago and it was TOO MUCH! Obviously we didn’t decline it or pay it back, as others wouldn’t. I’m just saying some of the payments seem really excessive.

A family member is a Pensioner and is receiving some hefty payments which he doesn’t need, but he is entitled to them so why would he say No Thanks. He’s never been so well off!

A close friend works in a Government department where he knows what individuals are receiving in PIP, etc…his job is hard work, required a Degree and loads of ongoing training, and is stressful at times. He is in poor health but receives LESS than the individuals he works with. One individual receives huge sums because of obesity health issues but buys himself and friends take aways every day coz he doesn’t know what else to spend it on.

What are these HEFTY PAYMENTS that your rich pensioner friend is getting? Or the HEFTY PAYMENTS that your obese friend is getting.
What HUGE AMOUNT did you get a few years ago that you didn't need? Why did you apply for it?
It's utter tripe that a motability car needs to be top of the range and you know that. You can chose a top of the range one but you have to pay for it.

0/10 OP!

Windchimesandsong · 26/10/2024 10:49

Concerning btw that the person you know, who works for a government department, is giving out people's private confidential health and financial information to his friends.

Sounds like he's breaking data protection rules?
Although maybe not - as he seems to be making things up, given he's telling tall tales about disability benefits being "huge sums". Quite the opposite. Disabled people are statistically amongst the poorest in society. And the UK has one of the lowest benefits, including disability benefits, in western Europe.

PandoraSox · 26/10/2024 10:52

I have reported this steaming load of tripe.

Windchimesandsong · 26/10/2024 10:57

Also concerning is a vulnerable disabled person is potentially being exploited.

Unsure how your friend, OP, knows that one of his claimants is buying takeaways every night? Uunless the takeaways are due to him being too unwell to cook and/or he's is in substandard temporary accommodation that lacks cooking facilities.

But if it's true that the disabled man is buying his friends takeaways every day, that's a red flag. Could be fake friends who're taking advantage of a vulnerable disabled person - so a possible adult safeguarding issue.

Bromptotoo · 26/10/2024 11:06

I read the OP's post #2 as saying that a colleague of the person working on PIP had loadsamoney from benefits due to obesity related health conditions.

However, ignoring the fact that obese people have to jump through the same hoops as anyone else to get benefits there's nasty judgement that obesity is wholly self inflicted.

SenatorBiggs · 26/10/2024 11:08

Yeah that’s not how the motorbility scheme works

BIossomtoes · 26/10/2024 11:11

As a tax paying pensioner, I’d love to know what these “hefty payments” are. Can you supply some more detail, please?

PandoraSox · 26/10/2024 11:12

@CyclingAddict why did you choose to name change in order to post misinformation?

Although not the only causes, poverty and stress (which are often interlinked) are two major causes of obesity. OP might be horrified but actually a more supportive benefits system would help address this. As would more council housing, because bad or insecure housing harms health (and costs the economy billions).

Another major cause of obesity is NHS delays and misdiagnoses (leading to late diagnoses). People gain weight because of pain or limited mobility that make exercise difficult.

Timely access to good healthcare (and other support services) would reduce NHS and benefits costs.

The false economy approach, austerity etc, is a proven failure. Harms both individuals and the economy.

ilovesooty · 26/10/2024 11:27

Why is your close relative who works in a government department discussing other people's benefits with you?

HarkALark · 26/10/2024 11:42

A nice start to the weekend with a wee bit of disingenuous benefits bashing. You seem nice, OP.

Fargo79 · 26/10/2024 11:50

Oh look, another thread spreading misinformation that demonises SEND children and their families in the midst of an enormous crisis in SEND education and welfare.

itsgettingweird · 26/10/2024 12:18

Just thinking .....

You're really not!

Ginisatonic · 26/10/2024 12:38

@CyclingAddict please do let us know what the huge payment was for that you received.
And what are the hefty pensioner payments?

dubsie · 26/10/2024 14:32

Summerhillsquare · 26/10/2024 09:35

Do they all have flat screen tellys too or has the cliché moved on a bit?

It's like everything you get the cliché type, with nothing apart from a massive Tele but they ain't rolling in cash from our generous benefits system.

I know a few people who worked all their lives and it just takes a bit of bad luck and they are plunged into poverty by our welfare system. I have a friend who got mouth cancer, never smoked hardly drunk ...but he can no longer work...had nearly all of his tongue removed and lots of his jaw...can't talk, struggles to eat and drink ....his working life is pretty much done. He's burned through his savings, got behind on his mortgage and now lives in a housing association bungalow...he has to watch every penny...so I don't buy the whole living in luxury on welfare because the truth is far from the daily mail tabloids.

The problem with the UK is we are fast becoming a polarised society where everyone blames everyone else for our problems. It's immigrants, it's welfare claimants , single mothers....they are just too easy to blame and the perfect target for government to cut spending

Bromptotoo · 26/10/2024 15:08

@dubsie spot on. I did a couple of years doing Welfare Rights casework for people with cancer and, if I were not already familiar with benefits it would have been a shocker.

If your friend is single then at best he'll have £800/month to keep himself fed, warm and clothed. But for the first 3-4 months of a claim he'd get less that £400.

Out of that he'll almost certainly need to pay 20% of Council Tax. Cancer treatments can leave people sensitive to cold so as well as being in the house all day he might need the thermostat higher than the 18 I get by with.

I threw in the towel earlier in the year as I wasn't doing people justice.

theworldhasgonebonkers · 26/10/2024 16:47

Govt spending is crazy

If you’ve paid into the system for almost your whole lifetime but suddenly are out of work I think you are eligible for something like £75pw

theworldhasgonebonkers · 26/10/2024 16:49

Can someone confirm it’s fake when I watched brand new iPhones being handed out to masses of people on the beach somewhere in the UK after arriving on boats ..?

Boomer55 · 26/10/2024 17:10

Most benefits won’t go up much as they are linked to the official inflation rates.

(Excluding PIP, DLA and state pensions.)

Well how can we say unless you link to the footage. But this may help.

Motability is a charity, not a government handout. The larger/better/bigger the car on lease, the more the claimant has to pay. It is just a lease car.

I haven't received a hefty payment either. Not that I think I'm entitled to one.

I think it's up to those asserting this bollox to stand it up.
