Farage backtracks on claim he was advised not to hold constituency surgeries

username3678 · 07/10/2024 17:31

Farage isn't holding surgeries in his constituency and said it was because the government told him not to. He's since said that isn't true. His constituency can't get hold of him.

This was entirely predictable, he's renowned for not doing the job. The problem is his constituency is one of the most deprived in the UK. It seems they have no representation.

I’m not sure that’s accurate. The people who vote anti immigration always have complaints. About immigration for a start! What effects it has on them. Or so they say. They aren’t self sufficient I suspect.

LoremIpsumCici · 14/10/2024 08:31

He posted a video of himself foraging for mushrooms. Clearly staged and he hasn’t a clue as he said you can tell a mushroom by smell and easy peeling.

If he really did forage for mushrooms, he would have poisoned himself ages ago.

Anyone else tired of him cosplaying as a rural Englishman?

Reform are also breaking Commons rules by offering £300 tours of Parliament

https://www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/article/reform-breaks-commons-rules-by-offering-300-tours-of-parliament-d35hxmmmc

It's behind paywall but there are strict rules around how MPs can use their access to parliament for financial gain.

MPs have previously been censured for offering paid tours of parliament, with punishments including suspension and having the whip removed.

Reform breaks Commons rules by offering £300 tours of parliament

A fundraising email to some activists advertising a Christmas party included an optional ‘package’ involving a tour with an MP

Lol, and he's probably still more contactable than my Labour MP!

Sanctions should be brought in for MPs who don't do their constituency work. I'd be in favour of them being banned from standing for reelection. But then I think that every UK citizen has the right to stand for election and it should be made easier and cheaper, maybe even be fully funded by parliament - but once you've lost an election that's it, you've had your chance in a free and fair democracy and you don't get to stand again. Which would take care of the likes of Farage (who's failed in about 8 elections is it?) as well as any other party's constituency-hopping chosen ones. Tighten up the rules about living in the constituency too, make it a certain number of years and demonstrate local connections.

Former Green MP Caroline Lucas did something similar;

The commissioner said Ms Lucas's apology and pledge not to repeat the breach was an "appropriate outcome," adding: "The matter is now closed."

That doesn't excuse Reform Confused

But don't worry, they have refunded the money now.

Awful article about the thinking of the far right:

Very interesting, thank you. Unsurprising to see Farage and co mentioned. Also Trump's remigration plans.

Dotty Dorries didn’t turn up anywhere for about a year but was still troughing it along with her over-paid daughters.
This ‘not turning up for work’ but still getting handsomely paid is becoming a joke, it certainly wouldn’t wash in industry.
And as for accepting bribes (except they spell it as gifts) makes my piss boil…no other public sector worker is allowed to accept a bean!
Unfortunately nothing will ever change as those accepting the bribes are the only ones who can change the system & hell will freeze over before that ever happens.

Well, I’d never vote for Farage or the right, but, let’s be fair, some of the new members of this shiny new Labour government have already stuck their snouts in the financial troughs. 🤷‍♀️

Media work is 'all part of the political process'?

Reacting to Mr Lammy's high earnings, Sir Keir told Sky News' Sophy Ridge on Sunday programme: "I think David does a lot of media work, and I think media work and writing books is all part of the political process.

Westminster Accounts: Sir Keir Starmer defends Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy earning £200,000 from second jobs

Sky News' Westminster Accounts project has revealed how much money each MP is earning from second jobs and donations, who is paying them and who is gaining the most on top of their £84,000 base salary.

He's a grifting fuck, but as long as he pops his head up in the press enough to be a racist prick, the racist pricks that voted for him will be happy.

Never thought you'd be defending Farage Clav.

Anyway Labour are planning a crackdown on second jobs for MPs

Clacton USA?

Nigel Farage given free US team of PR advisers by former Bannon aide’s firm to help with public relations and events in America

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/oct/17/farage-given-free-team-of-us-pr-advisers-by-former-bannon-aides-firm

Asked whether he had sought advice about registering the free PR services from Preate’s firm and whether he should have done so, a spokesperson for Farage told the Guardian: “Nigel Farage is a politician, not an accountant.”

I can't believe he is only 60. I keep wishing he would fuck off (and die) but he's too young to wish that on.

Is he. My god he's only a year older than me.

For some reason that's really depressed me.

Apparently the trip was two days, I'd be interested to see a breakdown of costs. People are going on about Starmer accepting gifts yet no peep from them about Farage. I wonder why.

The people of Clacton must be delighted that they've gone international.

He claims to have paid for his air fares 'when campaigning'. He said he took the trip in July in a 'purely personal capacity' - not for campaigning.

In your link, Pippa Crerar is replying to this tweet from the Times Radio presenter;

@ KateEMcCann
"I paid my own air fare" Farage says, when asked about his own visit to the States. Says he has always paid his own travel costs if he is campaigning with Trump. I am very conscious of American electoral law, he tells @ TimesRadio

I don't know the context of the question - which trip was he talking about? The £32,836 trip has already been declared in his register of interests as a personal visit so he has no reason to lie.
