Will Trump Losing The Election Tip The US Into Another Civil War?

CHEESEY13 · 06/10/2024 20:50

The riots he inspired in 2020 came close. I personally believe he'd incite a re-run of those terrible events, although I note that it transpired that he made sure his Secret Service bodyguard rushed him back to the safety of The White House once he gave the mob his blessing.

He's unhinged enough to do it all over again.

Short answer: No, I don't think it will tip the U.S. into a civil war.

However ...

1.I agree that he would try to incite a repeat, but I think this time Washington will be flooded with all kinds of law enforcement, preceded by a hyper-focus on monitoring suspicious websites. Even the first time, they did a good job of keeping weapons out of the area.

2.I'm not sure you're right about rushing him back to safety, unless you know something new from prosecutor Jack Smith's newly released court filing. To the best of my knowledge, he actually did want to stay with the mob. This was notable for me because for a long time, I said the opposite. I firmly maintained that Trump was too cowardly to stay with the mob and probably unwilling to make the long walk. It turned out that I was wrong. The SS wouldn't let him go with the mob - unless you definitely heard something different.

3.Yes, he's unhinged enough to do it again - and also so power-mad and so terrified of the prosecutions in store for him that another coup attempt probably seems like the only way out for him.

I saw an interview a few weeks ago at a Trump rally and one guy said that they have guns and if he loses they'll use them. It's a possibility that it could kick off.

Westea · 07/10/2024 03:36

Not sure about a civil war, but yes, he's not likely to concede peacefully, nor are his supporters likely to accept a loss at face value. At least the White House can expect problems in advance this time.

squishee · 07/10/2024 04:19

It was in 2021, and no.

Rowlinginthedeepanddeeper · 07/10/2024 04:40

It will kick off with a few violent spats that will be stomped on as they are prepared for them this time.

The result will be challenged legally and may take time to resolve, but there are hundreds of Democratic lawyers lined up to both defend and prosecute if necessary.

Kamala will appoint a DOJ and AG with a backbone and bring the force of law to actually bear on Trump.

Dance will continue to be a slimy, misogynistic PITA, but Trump will have a heart attack late next year (okay, so that's wishful thinking).

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 07/10/2024 04:43

I doubt it.
There will be violence but I don't think it will become civil war.

TinySmol · 07/10/2024 04:54

I think he will win. Unfortunately.

CHEESEY13 · 07/10/2024 09:31

According to CNN.

Unfortunately it's true that more Trump Republicans own guns than do Kamala Democrats.

Trump is currently the favourite to win and I think he will do. All of my US relatives are voting for him.

ChateauMargaux · 13/10/2024 12:40

Trump and Harris or Donald and Kamala - every day sexism to reduce her to her first name and afford him the respect of addressing him by his surname.

justasking111 · 13/10/2024 13:28

America is huge. To put it in perspective the flooding, power cuts in the Tampa area affected the same number of people who live in Wales.

There's trigger happy states, but many states aren't. The shooters are going to get shot not community service.

You have my sympathy. It must be very embarrassing to have relatives supporting such a vicious, vulgar, vindictive, lying, lawless, heartless, bigoted, greedy, self-aggrandizing, ignorant criminal.

Sibilantseamstress · 16/10/2024 08:30

Short answer OP, no.

RedPalace · 16/10/2024 08:45

Sadly I think there is a good likelihood Trump will win. There are a lot of 'never vote democrat' people out there who may find Trump distasteful, indeed disgusting, but he is the one the Republicans put forward. They believe the Republicans will curtail his worse excesses and at least they'll pay less taxes.
There's still more who think politics is like a reality TV show and who don't care who wins as long as their social media feed is entertaining.

Why so emotional? The election is about policies it's not about personality or who's most popular. From your many hysterical posts MsAmerica,I picture you salivating whilst watching the idiots on 'The View' and positively fainting at the divisive and downright nasty bile spouting forth from 'Joy' Reid on MSNBC. It's all really rather pathetic actually.

Trump as a Bad Loser vs. Trump as a Bad Winner.
I'm not sure which is the lesser of two evils.

He's incoherently barking mad at his rallies, can't hold a train of thought to the end of a sentence in an interview, yet there are people lapping it up.

Never exits the same paragraph he enters as someone said of Chicago Mayor Daley.
He is the Evil of Two Lessers....

I have been utterly dismayed listening to Kamala's interviews. She is a terrible candidate and I will be very surprised if Trump doesn't win as a result.

OonaStubbs · 16/10/2024 17:29

Odds are moving in Trump's direction
Trump currently 13/18
Kamala 11/8

A couple of weeks ago it was even.

FWIW I'm no Trump fan either, but the lack of threads about how wonderful Kamala is and how well she's doing is glaring - perhaps because many know perfectly well she isn't and prefer to avoid attention being drawn to it?

There was so much hope when Biden stood down - much of it misplaced IMO - and a half decent candidate should be leaving Trump trailing, but that's not the way things have turned out and I'm now even more worried he'll win

I agree but would like to add misogynistic, delusional bully and rapist who is also very clearly a pork pie short of a picnic.

welcome to the donald bots and election campain ...

OonaStubbs · 17/10/2024 20:56

There's a lot of Donald's and a lot of Harris's. Trump and Kamala are distinctive names.

Abhannmor · 17/10/2024 22:11

The betting odds are a bit opaque now though. Lots of foreign based companies like Polymarket involved. Harris is not a charismatic candidate like Reagan or Obama. But neither is Trump. You had 'Reagan Democrats '. You don't have ' Trump Democrats '. Not yet anyway. And it's revealing that he is bottling out of hostile interviews and she isn't. Still ...too close for comfort.
