get out and vote tomorrow. Turnout is predicted to be historically low.

Voting is a privilege. Yes, I know that so many are far from inspired this time but there must be a party the policies of which you generally agree with.

Please vote. It’s so important.

Yes frantically looking for driving licence. Well sat here trying to think where it could be.

tinydynamine · 03/07/2024 22:44

I have recently regained the right to vote in the UK...been abroad for 30 years and decided not to bother. Not my circus not my monkeys, as the saying goes.

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/07/2024 22:51

Fair enough, tinydynamine.

Where do you live?

OP posts:
Triestre · 03/07/2024 23:07

I will go early to vote and then switch off. At least I would feel better for doing my bit. Just not interested in hearing the awful outcome of these elections.

Same here if you insert passport for driving licence.
I do wonder how many of us are going to be screwed over by the ID requirement being brought in or those who have no ID at all!

Redshoeblueshoe · 03/07/2024 23:19

No thanks - I'm going to spoil my ballot paper.
And I know this pisses you off OP, but so what

Before you do that, please at least read this. It might change your mind, depending on your political viewpoint.

At least you’ll be making the effort to go.

Totally agree. Please vote

Cherrysherbet · 03/07/2024 23:26

I’ll be voting Labour tomorrow. I can’t wait to see them wipe the floor with the tories.

LauderSyme · 03/07/2024 23:27

Totally agree with you OP.

Western apathy for democracy is dispiriting, to say the least. The idiotic arguments we're always hearing about "they're all the same; it makes no difference who is in charge; it doesn't affect my life" are infuriatingly mistaken.

Isn’t it?!

Redshoeblueshoe · 04/07/2024 00:15

I am not apathetic I am enraged. Edwin are you assuming I live in a safe Tory seat ? I live in a very safe Labour seat.

chattyness · 04/07/2024 00:15

We did postal again and glad we did , weather is horrendous here and set to be worse on polling day , I know that affects the turnout not everyone can drive or get a lift to polling stations, so won't they bother.

Appalonia · 04/07/2024 00:18

As a lifelong Labour voter I CANNOT vote for a party which will DESTROY the hard won rights of women. For the reasons below I am going to the polling station but spoiling my vote for the first time ever, and I'm 59.

Whatever your political view, please

Again, you’re going. I don’t agree with your conclusion but you’re making the effort.

Appalonia · 04/07/2024 00:52

Thank you. I have been wrestling with this for weeks. I'm in a v safe Labour seat so it doesn't matter. But in the seats where it does, then yes I agree with you. Thing is tho so many pp are utterly disillusioned with the political system and don't have much faith in Labour ( don't really know what they stand for ,). Which is partly the recent rapid rise in support for Reform as, even if many of their policies may well be impossible in practice at least they are offering something different. And.instead of pp deciding those voters as racist, it would be much more helpful to be asking the question WHY are so many pp in favour of them.

Personally I think it's because Labour don't represent the working class any more and seem more concerned with identity politics. Which are utterly irrelevant if you are struggling to pay your bills, can't get on the housing ladder or can't get seen by a Dr. My friend went to A&E last weekend and spent FOURTEEN HOURS waiting to be seen!

I have recently regained the right to vote in the UK...been abroad for 30 years and decided not to bother. Not my circus not my monkeys, as the saying goes.

But it does affect you. Changes to pensions, inheritance taxes, changes to British citizens rights overseas etc

Normallynumb · 04/07/2024 01:09

I sent my postal ballot back last week

Maddy70 · 04/07/2024 02:57

I saw this on threads and yes this ...

Think on this:
Imagine you're at the railway station. The train to your destination has been cancelled. There is, however a train that goes close enough for you to get home. So - do you take that train - or do you sit on the platform with the rain pouring down and refuse to get on any train unless it's going exactly where you want it to? Tomorrow you can sit on the platform getting sopping wet, or say "close enough" and step aboard!

Cismyfatarse · 04/07/2024 03:05

I can't. In common with thousands of others, my postal vote did not arrive before I went on holiday. The 3 other voters in the house got their votes in. I was offered the option of driving 20 miles each way to collect it but only on one specific day.

Not happy about it.

Nat6999 · 04/07/2024 03:43

Already done my postal vote.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 04/07/2024 03:53

I know exactly where my passport is but I’m currently down with Covid & wasn’t able to sort out an emergency proxy vote.

I’m in a safe Labour seat & share @Appalonia’s views, so while I could mask up & stagger down to the polling station, I think it’s going to be better to keep my germs at home.
