I don’t like it when politicians respond to a question with ‘ Look, …..’

What annoys you about the way politicians answer ( or don’t answer) questions?

When they answer the question they want to rather than the question they have actually been asked.

"Let's be clear about this."

“I think what the British people really care about/really think we should be focused on is …….” before failing to answer the question they were actually asked. Don’t you dare to presume to know what I care about (because it is almost certainly not what you are going to say) and even if by chance you do land on something I care about, don’t you dare use it to avoid fulfilling your obligation of being held to account to your electorate.

'Look' raises my hackles too, Blair was awful for it then Cameron seemed to copy him.

Level up / levelling up who came up with that one.
Every time I hear a politician say it I cringe.

Hardworking families

‘The question is..’ no buddy the question is what you’ve been asked and you’re not answering. I don’t care about what you think the question is.

"I don't recognise that," when a fact is inconvenient. It's either true or not true; you can't just decide you won't acknowledge stuff when there's evidence!

Hard pressed families / hard working families.

The proportion of single person households ranges from 35.0% in Scotland (highest) to 23.9% in London (lowest). That's an awful lot of voters that don't seem to matter to them.

Why not? Thinking about possible future scenarios and how you'll deal with them seems pretty bloody important for a politician. And they all happily use hypotheticals when it suits them.

It's all politics and each party is happy to "play politics" when it suits them. So calling it out is just so hypocritical.

I am almost looking forward to the return of Question Time so I can play MN bingo with these phrases.

My DH says he doesn’t like the phrase ‘we / I think this is fair and right’ … when it is clear it isn’t a fair and right for anyone

Tony Blair started it. I HATE its implication that the questioner has failed to understand something, and the politiician, though slightly exasperated by the lesser minds around him/her, is magnanimously, engagingly, affably willing to spell things out in terms that they can understand. Yuk.
