Is anyone else imagining Liz Truss absolutely whooping it up at Chequers this weekend?

Yes, she's fucked up and, yes, we are all paying the repercussions and, yes, she's due exactly the same kind of crash the economy's been through.

But I bet she's going to make the absolute most of her one last chance at country house living...

If you were her, what would you be up to there this weekend??

£115k a year for the rest of her life for doing 6 weeks work?
I'd be laughing all the way to the bank.

Georgyporky · 21/10/2022 18:26

Bloody woman is now entitled to £115,000 p.a. - IN PERPITUITY - for fucking up the country in 45 days.

user12323 · 21/10/2022 18:28

fullfact.org/economy/liz-truss-public-duty-cost-allowance/ It's not a pension, it's an allowance that they have to submit receipts for and is to be used in connection with 'expenses arising from their special position in public life'

MintJulia · 21/10/2022 18:28

I think I'd probably be asleep. Once the adrenalin had stopped running, she must have been knackered. Not that it's any excuse for her behaviour.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 21/10/2022 18:34

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 21/10/2022 18:16

Wait she gets 110k a year EVERY year now forever? She doesn’t have to get a job or sign on? WTF? We’re paying this to every living former PM? Are the conservatives just burning through members becoming PM until they are all getting paid this?
Fucking batshit!

It’s £115k, for running an office etc and only claimable with receipts. I can’t see how she could possibly claim. But, who knows…. Tony Blair claims the max and he’s been out of politics for ages and has his own institute that employs over 450 people around the world so you’d think be able to manage without….

RosesAndDahlias · 21/10/2022 18:34

I doubt she’s whooping it up. Probably had too much champagne, yes, but also feeling rotten for having messed it up big time (or perhaps not, I don’t know the woman!)
I just feel sorry for her children. No doubt they don’t use her surname, but at school everyone will know who they are and I expect they will be feeling ashamed, and getting the piss taken out of them.
I’m hoping her husband is supporting everyone…..

jennakong · 21/10/2022 18:37

She gets a final salary pension plus a car & chauffeur for life, if she wants, plus this dough. Apparently Major, Blair, Cameron and Brown have all claimed the full amount every year, for doing what God knows.

I predict she will be on Blanketty Blank before the decade is out, sitting between Su Pollard and a drag queen.

GreenLunchBox · 21/10/2022 18:44

She'll defo do things like Strictly. She loves herself and is an attention seeker

Lonelycrab · 21/10/2022 19:16

While I hate the Tories and I think she was a complete disaster I do feel for her

I don’t. She’s an adult and you have to be aware of the consequences of your decisions. She messed up and has seriously damaged the country and the economy because she got it wrong. But that was only because she made some really bad decisions, and listened to some awful people in the process.

That was her choice.

Arenanewbie · 21/10/2022 19:59

I think she’s packing. She doesn’t come across as very sentimental but rather “not open to other opinions “ type.

Paslaptis · 21/10/2022 20:13

jennakong · 21/10/2022 17:56

I meant step down completely as an MP, as Cameron did after the 2017 GE, was it? He didn't stick around long anyway!

"He’s in Europe, in Nice, with his trotters up, yeah, where is the geezer? I think he should be held account for it.” - Danny Dyer

Cameron did hang on for a few months as an MP, then resigned again when Parliament was back in session. Blair managed to resign all in one day, but then, he'd had his successor picked out for years.

I do feel for her teenage daughters.

Me too

I do feel for her teenage daughters.

Why?

DeborahVance · 22/10/2022 06:40

I feel sorry for her kids too, it must be quite traumatic to see your mother he so unbelievably humiliated. Everyone they meet will know exactly what happened.

I do not feel sorry for her at all but I hope she is well supported.

Btw I think they have to pay for food and wine at Chequers but I may have got that wrong.

What I am furious about is the prospect of her giving out resignation honours

FixTheBeak · 22/10/2022 06:44

TerfQueen · 21/10/2022 18:19

45 days as PM and she’s entitled to a full prime minister pension of £100k a year 🤣 I’d be elated, off my tits on champers laughing at the plebs

I think it only kicks in at two months of service so no fat pension unless I’ve got that wrong

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 22/10/2022 09:43

I don't think Truss will be, no. Theresa May otoh...

I'd be in the most fancy bath in Chequers, drinking the most expensive alcohol from its cellars and watching fail videos on YouTube.

Exactly...

I think there is no knowing what that woman will be doing. I listened to Alistair Campbell & Rory Stewart's podcast during the week where Campbell argued that a good PM needs a degree of imposter syndrome ie 'it's incredible I'm in this remarkable & unusual position' [as PM]. Not too much that it limits your ability to do the job.

He reckons Truss had none, an absolute sense of belief & entitlement that she should be there.

Ergo now I would say she's in a fog of delusion and self-justification. As per her speech, it was Putin, international events, economy - but not her.

Watching from Ireland, it's been massively entertaining (tho the mess there impacts Ireland too) but if I were in the UK, I'd be despairing at the utter shitshow of the current political system.

ginghamstarfish · 22/10/2022 09:58

I'd be hiding in a cave, mortified and embarrassed.

Eastie77Returns · 22/10/2022 05:24

I would have thought that was obvious. They have no choice in the matter & everyone will know their mother has been publicly humiliated. I hope they didn't change schools.
Do you think they should suffer?

I wasn’t even aware she had children. I doubt the general public could pick either one out of a lineup so they’ve not exactly been in the public glare during her 40 odd days as PM. I’m sure their immediate family and friends will rally around. The good news for them is that their mother will be little more than an obscure footnote in history in a short time. I’m not sure why you think I want them to ‘suffer’.

I do feel sorry for the children of politicians who faced ridicule and vicious treatment from the media (Chelsea Clinton spoke about her awful memories of this).

Changechangychange · 22/10/2022 16:59

Eastie77Returns · 22/10/2022 05:24

Why?

There are lots of quite unpleasant rumours about her sex life, all of which I am sure every teenage boy in her kids’ school know about and are repeating. Her multiple affairs (which I think are confirmed), her alleged fondness for bareback anal (which definitely isn’t confirmed but is still being repeated as fact), whether or not her necklace is a BDSM signal. There were lots of rumours about Boris’s sex life, but the tone was totally different - he was a cad, she is essentially being called a slag.

Plus the comparisons to a lettuce, the relentless descriptions of her as “weird”, “mad”, “stupid”, etc - all of which may be true, but still must be hard to watch your mother being eviscerated in the papers every day.

TizerorFizz · 22/10/2022 23:18

I imagine she is feeling depressed as her career has gone up in smoke. There is no chance of her ever being offered a cabinet position. Also her entire cabinet is likely to be given their marching orders when the new PM takes office.
