Rishi Sunak pretending to own a Kia Rio

Tilltheend99 · 24/03/2022 20:36

Apparently, Rishi borrowed a Sainsbury’s workers ordinary car to be photographed with it. Then he tried to buy a can of Coke and couldn’t work out how to use his card. (He is in charge of our economy)

I just think the whole scenario is so bonkers everyone should here about it.

@FrecklesMalone

What the hell is "div". He is just a typical rich Tory. I've met rich boys like him a lot other the years. The majority have such contempt of the average person and not a clue about financially struggling as they never have had to worry.
It’s a winchester college special.
ReeseWitherfork · 25/03/2022 06:59

@Horcruxe

I cant believe he messed up the contactless payment.

How does he pay for stuff?

Yeah seriously confused about this. Has he even been in a shop?! Pretty sure two year old knows where to tap a contactless card.
sophienelisse · 25/03/2022 06:59

@CatNamedEaster

I don't get it. The arrogance, the Teflon attitude. If I make a mistake at work I feel terrible about it because it creates more work, costs money and makes me feel embarrassed about my competence.

Maybe my new mantra should be "what would Rishi do?" Accidentally fucked up my yearly forecast and created a surplus costing £££££ in storage? Never mind, I'll just send an email reminding everyone of the good job I did 2 years ago. Maybe with a jpeg of me drinking builders tea from a Sports Direct mug, to show how nice I am, so you can't be mean to me.

I'm sure my manager will be dead impressed.

I agree with all of this, there is just no accountability is there.

Who is advising them with the ideas they are coming up with are good ideas.

I feel so embarrassed about our government they are just one poor decision after another.

QuebecBagnet · 25/03/2022 07:02

@Petronus

He’s frighteningly out of touch. When asked by a group of school children what his favourite subject at school was he said div, which is not exactly something you’d find at your local comp.
What on Earth is div? 😂. Divination?
GeneLovesJezebel · 25/03/2022 07:02

I’m not sure how he got the name ‘dishy’. His mouth is constantly open and his suit looks too small. He always looks to me like he needs his mum to sort him out before he leaves the house !

QuebecBagnet · 25/03/2022 07:03

I’ve googled.

Div is at the heart of the education we offer. It defines the liberal character of Winchester academic life. Pupils engage in discussion and debate, and embrace the idea of learning for its own sake, unrestrained by any examination syllabus. Div refers both to the subject, and to a form of about fifteen pupils from all different boarding houses, whose teacher is referred to as the Div don. Div dons are drawn from the whole range of different academic departments.

Div is multi-disciplinary in scope. In Years 9 to 11, it provides pupils with an introduction to a broad sweep of History, from classical times to the Early Modern period. It also encompasses English literature and language, the History of Science and Art, Religious Studies and PSHEE.

FrecklesMalone · 25/03/2022 07:04

I am glad people are beginning to recognise that he is just another rich boy.

@DistrictCommissioner a Winchester Special sounds quite vile Grin

QuebecBagnet · 25/03/2022 07:05

Div don. 😂😂😂😂

Sunak is a muppet. I mean he’s less of a twat than Boris but he’s still a Tory twat. And as for the 5p cut on fuel duty I’ve seen no difference at the pumps yet? Was still 173p a litre here yesterday.

GeneLovesJezebel · 25/03/2022 07:05

When I was young, to be called a div was an insult on your intelligence.

Imabouttoexplode · 25/03/2022 07:07

He looked flustered to me and the guy kind of presented to him what looked like the contactless bit.

Polyanthus2 · 25/03/2022 07:09

I heard him interviewed on the world at one on Radio 4 ?yesterday - I was truly impressed. The world is in a shit storm which will probably get seriously worse (chronic food shortages) before it gets better, there is no money to spare for anything - all those demanding we dont increase NI - oh, have you forgotten it was to pay to improve the crap care homes people are forced into (if they can find one) AND initially it was going towards the NHS which is way behind in ops and appointments - but no lets chuck that and have the money NOW.

He defended his position well. Even the bit about his wife owning interests in a Russian company (which I presume she is off loading as we speak).

HelloSpringIveMissedYou · 25/03/2022 07:11

When he was asked about the bread he had not got a scooby, he plucked £1 out of the air and said it'd gone up to £1.20.

The fact that div was his favourite subject just about sums him up, when I was at school div was an insult if you'd done something daft Hmm

DobbyTheHouseElk · 25/03/2022 07:11

I can’t read the story because ironically it’s behind a pay wall!

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 25/03/2022 07:12

Haha l said that to dh last nt, like he owns a car like that!!

TheCaddieisaBaddie · 25/03/2022 07:15

I bet he had to YouTube 'how to use a petrol pump' when he was told that he was having a photo op.

QuebecBagnet · 25/03/2022 07:15

Even the institute of fiscal studies are slagging his policies off.

LabelMaker · 25/03/2022 07:16

Maybe he normally uses apple pay or whatever it is. Or pay at pump. The car thing was weird though

GeneLovesJezebel · 25/03/2022 07:17

To be fair, and I’m not particularly inclined to be, all political parties use photo opportunities. It used to be kissing babies 🥴

Divinity presumably Confused
PuffinMcStuffin · 25/03/2022 07:44

His wife's £500 million share interest in Ifosys is the tip of the iceberg for the Sunak family, Rishi didn't grow up with the wealth of his inlaws, but he certainly grew up in an incredibly privileged family.
The contactless error could happen to anyone feeling flustered, but lying about his car and being such a photo opportunity hound tells you what you need to know about him.

Ah that's why we didn't do it at my comprehensive school then . Sad thing is that it's so normal to him, and he probably really did enjoy it, that he doesn't even register how totally wanky it all appears to people just trying to pay for basic stuff.
twilightermummy · 25/03/2022 07:59

The second I saw that car on the news, I knew it wasn’t his! I called it!

Badoukas · 25/03/2022 08:40

On the plus side, a Sainsburys worker had their car topped up for free with £30.01 of overpriced petrol. Result!

Fizbosshoes · 25/03/2022 08:43

I cant believe he messed up the contactless payment.

How does he pay for stuff?

I didn't understand that either? He surely must have bought something contactless or at least seen someone else do it??

wonkylegs · 25/03/2022 08:59

@AngelinaFibres
It sounds like a posher version of what we called 'General Studies' when I was at school
At our school it was a timetable filler at a-level rather than a real subject
