I do really feel for Carrie Johnson and the comments made in the press recently as it isn’t down to her what job her husband does, however I find this quote particularly interesting on the BBC website…

Her spokeswoman said allegations made by former Tory chairman Lord Ashcroft were "just the latest attempt by bitter ex-officials" to discredit her adding: "She is a private individual who plays no role in government."

How then can this be squared with the defence regarding the photos of Boris’ ‘work meeting’ in the garden where she was sat with him? I dont generally bring my DP along to work meetings and if she has no place in government then surely she shouldn’t be there.

What part of my post is misogynistic? That it about a female? I don’t say anything derogatory towards her. I’ve also never read the dailymail thank you.

I am not a tory voter, I think they are a bunch of fucks, but this blaming everything on Carrie nonsense is ridiculous.

It’s her home so fair enough she can sit in her garden.

Boris is a grown up and apparently got to be prime minster (not a particularly good one).
It should be rightly Boris name and the tories name as responsible for this current sh&t show in the press. Because if it was all going well Carrie name wouldn’t even been mentioned.

Every Pm spouse is subject to these attacks.

(Except Mr May and Mr Thatcher funnily enough)

Well, Caesar's wife comes to mind.

Not that Boris comes even close to Caesar..

Lots of senior people in lots of industries do take their spouses along to work events though.

The party was obviously a party but your argument is weak on this one I think.

Boris Johnson has behaved appallingly for many years, long before Carrie came along. She is not responsible for his moral failings.

But she was previously head of comms for the Conservative Party. It would be naive to think that Carrie keeps her opinions to herself. She is most likely far more involved in discussions than any other previous PM's spouse. But she is not responsible for his behaviour.

Ultimately she may be manipulative, a nag and trying to get Boris to do her will, I have no idea and I really dislike the whole Lady Macbeth 'evil women whispering in his ear' thing that's going on here.

BUT he is the leader of this country, he should not allow himself to be manipulated, he should not divulge any details to his wife that he is not allowed to divulge, he should maintain a separation between his work and his home life. That is HIS job.

If he is not capable of being professional (and I feel reasonably comfortable in saying that he is not) then he is not capable of fulfilling his role to an appropriate level.

Back to the OP, there is a certain irony in a 'private individual' having their own spokesperson. I do think she has an undue influence on him, but the responsibility is on him to separate work and private life. Given that he has failed to do this throughout his career (Jennifer Arcuri), it's no surprise that he continues to fail to do this now.
