If Labour came into power

If Labour were to come into power tomorrow, what is it people think they would do better?

Not what Labour governments of the past have done.. I mean Labour 2022. What would be new/better?

I’m realistic about where I’m at, for now. Doesn’t mean I don’t want to change it once my son is in education and I can get out to work/pursue further education myself.

ambushedbywine · 06/02/2022 17:26

I hope they would
-tax the right people (ie not increase NI which disproportionately impacts poor people)

 • fund education to a manageable level

-improve the treatment of disabled children and adults

girafferafferaffe · 06/02/2022 17:28

All I know is they don't know what a woman is. And for that I won't trust them with anything.

XingMing · 06/02/2022 17:30

Which will be a good outcome, surely. Not many of us middle class folk have many billionaire friends. I may be the exception, but I don't have any. So I wear several layers of clothing and rant at DH when he leaves doors and windows open unnecessarily.

lumpofcomfort · 06/02/2022 17:33

Of you genuinely want to know what they stand for, I put some policy links upthread.

lumpofcomfort · 06/02/2022 17:33

If

XingMing · 06/02/2022 17:40

I'd like to think that any government would rework and simplify the tax system so thoroughly that it became almost impossible (and not advantageous) to play the system at all.

In reality, unless most of the world's 190 nations are fully committed to the idea, then someone, somewhere is going to whisper, Psst, there's a better option this way.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/02/2022 17:41

Not be Boris

XingMing · 06/02/2022 17:42

I read them @lumpofcomfort. But I would say that I thought much thought had been expended writing them.

XingMing · 06/02/2022 17:42

....wouldn't say.......

Viviennemary · 06/02/2022 17:44

Tax tax and tax. Still after the fiasco of the Tories writing off billions of pounds of Covid fraud and billions spent on unusable protection equipment I dont think Labour could waste any more than the Tories have.

ilovesooty · 06/02/2022 17:46

@girafferafferaffe

All I know is they don't know what a woman is. And for that I won't trust them with anything.
Do tell us how women have benefited under the Tories.
XingMing · 06/02/2022 17:49

@ilovesooty, nobody is suggesting there has been a benefit; merely that most Tories understand that having breasts, a cervix and a uterus renders you female.

XingMing · 06/02/2022 17:52

But since you insist, the Tories have had two female leaders: Labour none. The Tories currently have female Home and Foreign secretaries, one a WoC.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 06/02/2022 17:54
@ilovesooty, nobody is suggesting there has been a benefit; merely that most Tories understand that having breasts, a cervix and a uterus renders you female.
And that misogyny happens to men too

XingMing · 06/02/2022 17:54

I am not seeing the discrimination you perceive here.

XingMing · 06/02/2022 17:56

Sorry @JustAnotherPoster00, I am ordinary and your post makes no sense at all. Could you please explain?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 06/02/2022 17:59

www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/oct/06/dominic-raab-confuses-meaning-of-misogyny-in-bbc-interview

Dominic Raab has rejected the idea that misogyny should become a hate crime in the wake of the Sarah Everard murder, but then appeared confused about its meaning as he suggested it could apply to abuse against either women or men.

Moonface123 · 06/02/2022 18:01

Probably not alot. My Nan used to say it doesn' t matter which political party is in charge, for the majority of folks life goes on the same, and l think she' s right.

XingMing · 06/02/2022 18:10

Your nan was almost certainly spot on the money. Politicians come and go but damn few change anything important. The haves always want more, and the have nots want something done for them.

Stripyhoglets1 · 06/02/2022 18:12

They would restore my inner calm. Austerity followed by brexit followed by boris has shattered my ability to feel secure as a uk citizen since 2010.

"Wealth taxes. Removal of VAT on energy. Not being fucking corrupt."

Agree with this.
And the NI rise would be scrapped.
They'd stop the talks with US insurance companies desperate to get their hands on the NHS.
They'd invest in public sector employment like teachers and nurses, and support and hopefully build up the lack of respect the tories show them.

Fujimora · 06/02/2022 18:14

Wealth taxes on anyone with an income of £25000 plus.

Colderthanever · 06/02/2022 18:16

Nothing I think op. It’s hardly even a credible Defence never mind at a run a Country level.

Viviennemary · 06/02/2022 18:21

Weslth tax on anyone with income of £25000 plus. People on benefits get more than that. Confused

XingMing · 06/02/2022 18:23

£25,000 is a very low level to start taxing wealth @Fujimora. That isn't even national median income, which is (I think) about £32k. How many people do you want to drive offshore, with their skills and energies?
