Keir Starmer - where is he?

This government and prime minister are the worst I have experienced in my long life. There is a a procession of misconduct, failure to follow due process, chumocracy jobs for mates, Covid bungling, new police powers, increasing misogyny and sexism and a more hostile environment for women - we seem to be drifting towards a totalitarian state...

How is Keir Starmer not making political capital from this? I honestly don't feel like we have a two party system any more, it feel like they are both the same.

I don't think anyone can understand it.

bumpertobumper · 29/06/2021 21:13

I can't work out if he just doesn't say much, or does but doesn't get any press coverage ...

LEMtheoriginal · 29/06/2021 21:14

Keir who????

HunkyPunk · 29/06/2021 21:20

All Keir Starmer needs to raise his profile is to line up a few industry visits, involving a hard hat, a high-viz jacket and an amusing photo-opportunity. Seems to work a treat for Boris!

Warmduscher · 29/06/2021 21:21

He’s busy replacing the tape in a CCTV camera.

AnneLovesGilbert · 29/06/2021 21:21

@LEMtheoriginal

Keir who????
I assume you jest but there was a focus group on the radio this morning and some people - floating votes - genuinely didn’t know who he was. Which the pollster said was better for Starmer than what many who do know who he is are saying about him…

Ha! He wishes he was that clever. Surely that has DC’s grubby prints on it.
penni00 · 29/06/2021 21:24

I actually like Keir Starmer but wish he would get a bit more passionate, perhaps like Andy Burnham?

EwwSprouts · 29/06/2021 21:30

I heard on this morning's news he had called for employers to let staff go home early today to watch the football match...radical politics!

No chance

But yes op he seems to be very quiet

ginandbearit · 29/06/2021 21:39

So many open goals for Labour to attack ..Id like to see Emily Thornberry give Boris and co hell ..she's the only Labour personality with the charisma and wit to cause damage .. if she could be made Chief Attack Dog it would be a sight to see ..

penni00 · 29/06/2021 21:51

Hope he is not with Mrs Hancock!!!

I voted for Keir in the leadership contest, and I was delighted when he won. Finally, the Labour Party had decided it actually wanted to win.

I’m almost starting to wish I hadn’t, though. He looks & sounds the part and he is obviously a decent, honourable guy but he is politically clueless. It’s like he just doesn’t get the concept that when the government fuck up, it’s his job to put the boot in as hard as possible where it hurts most. Politics is a contact sport and Starmer is too much of a gentleman to get his hands dirty.

Thisnamewasnttaken123 · 29/06/2021 22:44

I was thinking this the other day.
I haven't seen him on TV or anywhere for ages.

Thewiseoneincognito · 29/06/2021 22:45

He’s not very good is he. The British are exceptionally shit at voting. It’s like we can’t help but make crap political choices.

Temp023 · 29/06/2021 22:46

He has been deconstructed and packed back into his case for safe-keeping!

VikingVolva · 29/06/2021 22:48

He's invisible, as is the rest of the Opposition.

Worse than useless, because now totally overlooked.

penni00 · 29/06/2021 22:53

@GirlAloud.

You made me think of gentleman Mark Darcy , lawyer(Colin Firth) in Bridget Jones Edge of Reason when he finally fights nasty Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant)in the fountain!

Snog · 30/06/2021 15:10

I saw he at PMQs today- he runs rings around Boris at PMQs, I guess it's an environment similar to a court room.

I'm not sure why he isn't taking a higher profile outside of PMQs though. I would expect there to be a lot of anti government marches and rallies and protests with the Labour Party at the forefront but this just isn't happening.

I don't see him being interviewed on TV and radio much either.

I watched him too and I thought he did really well in PMQs.

devildeepbluesea · 30/06/2021 17:35

Agree he absolutely takes Johnson apart at PMQs.

I think an awful lot is because of who owns the majority of the media.

NautaOcts · 30/06/2021 17:40

Agree he feels really absent in the media
But am interested also as to whether that’s because he’s not saying anything or not getting the coverage

Thehenbunringsock · 30/06/2021 17:40

He doesn't do anything outside of PMQs. He appears on a Wednesday to humiliate Boris and then hides away again until the following Wednesday.

I was hoping when Corbyn went that Labour would get a leader who had a very clear stance on key issues and a constant strong presence. I was hoping that Keir would be a real thorn in Boris' side.

MarshaBradyo · 30/06/2021 17:42

I really wanted him to be the good choice

I still think he’s better than the rest of the party so haven’t given up yet, but it’s a long time to the next election
