should Jeremy Corbyn be our next prime minister?

Longtime lurker first poster!

Let me start by saying I am no fan of Jeremy Corbyn by any stretch of the imagination. I think he’s too mild mannered and doesn’t really have any gravitas to speak of but can anyone here honestly say their life has gotten better over the last 9 years of Tory rule?? Youngest DS school class size has slowly got bigger, less support for learning teachers, less school trips and end of outdoor extracurricular activities. I think it’s absolutely shocking to see first hand and really upsetting that lots of kids nowadays are missing out on opportunities that my older kids had when they were in school.

Hospital waiting times have got longer and longer and local library’s and community centres are closing left right and centre. I never used to see so many homeless people on the streets either it’s so upsetting as we live in one of the richest countries in the world.

What I’m trying to get across is that although I’ve only ever voted for labour when Blair was in power and voted for the Lib Dem’s since, what have the tories ever actually done for normal working people? It seems like the whole country is going downhill and they are the only ones to blame as the responsibility lies at their door. I never in a million years would’ve thought I would vote for a socialist like Jeremy Corbyn but I don’t see any other option at this point. We’ve had 9 years of austerity and everything has gone to sh*t maybe we need to try something new. I’ve read their manifesto from the last election and a lot of the ideas were radical but would do a lot of good, just a shame it’s being presented by some less than charismatic politicians. That’s why I will reluctantly be voting labour in the next election

Labour also grossly failed to build homes during the boom years, leading to overinflated house prices that have hit future generations the hardest.

My point is that it’s easy and fashionable to blame the conservatives for being the mean party, but the conditions labour created have caused deep and long lasting damage.

I think we would all eventually suffer and be much worse off under labour, especially younger generations who are not yet financially secure.

leckford · 26/09/2019 17:06

Corbyn is an idiot and his comrades are extremely nasty. Their latest idea of an immigration free for all will ensure few people will vote for them. Corbyn’s rating is minus 60% he stands no chance.

peteneras · 26/09/2019 17:16

Labour is about spending and more spending so as to impress - fine if it's their own money. But they let others to pick up the(ir) bills later.

Great with "friends" like these - bloody marvellous!!!

IceCreamConewithaflake · 26/09/2019 17:29

No - he is useless.

HappydaysArehere · 05/10/2019 19:02

No.

Caucho · 07/10/2019 19:27

Yes if people vote for him for I certainly won’t be doing so. He can stop weaselly trying to get the job without an election. I know Boris inherited the role but at least he’s asked for an election

MargeB · 26/10/2019 20:11

You're aware that the national debt has spiralled to almost £1.8 trillion since the Tories got into power in 2010?

And this after nearly a decade of austerity - food banks - sanctions etc which of course dont affect the rich ie Boris and his Eton chums!

Frazzled2207 · 26/10/2019 20:19

I don't rate him particularly but I think he's a decent man and against Boris would vote for him any day.
Labour are the only party except for the greens that take climate change seriously for starters. And although Corbyn is a bit of a wet blanket I rate some others in the party eg Keir Starmer Lisa Nandy and Jess Phillips.

Cantstoppiggingout · 26/10/2019 20:22

Fuck, no!

Gileadisreal · 26/10/2019 20:28

@TulipsTulipsTulips This. I couldn't agree more.

hellsbells99 · 26/10/2019 20:30

God, no 😂

SirVixofVixHall · 26/10/2019 20:31

I absolutely loathe him and have no idea who on earth I would vote for. ☹️

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/10/2019 20:35

It's time for a change OP. I dont think Labour could possibly do a worse job than the Tories have since the referendum.

leckford · 27/10/2019 06:25

Their promise to allow immigration of anyone from anywhere makes them unelectable. All the other parties will run with this constantly if they have any sense.

EssentialHummus · 27/10/2019 06:30

I’m Jewish, I couldn’t vote for him. I’d love to vote Labour but I won’t until the leadership changes. It’s a shame - my local Labour MP is wonderful, does lots for the community.

StinkGhoul · 27/10/2019 06:37

Of course. I don’t know how anyone can look at the current situation and think we have any other option. The Lib Dems aren’t getting in, and shouldn’t after abstaining from that NHS bill this week. It’s either Corbyn or Johnson - there’s no question at all.

mantlepiece · 27/10/2019 06:37

Yes I will be voting Labour.

StinkGhoul · 27/10/2019 06:38

@leckford I hope they don’t, just as I hope people like you stop spouting it, because it’s bullshit

LucileDuplessis · 27/10/2019 06:42

Yes. I'm not a Corbyn fan but anything to get rid of the Tories.

CurryAndCobra · 27/10/2019 06:50

He is a twat. HELL no!

StinkGhoul · 27/10/2019 07:35

So you think Johnson and his disregard for the law are a better option? Have you been paying any attention at all?

Gin96 · 29/10/2019 21:46

@StinkGhoul Labours immigration policy still scares me, I won’t be voting for them.

Coppersulphate · 29/10/2019 23:16

Corbyn and his cohort are communists. Boris every time

paolo2143 · 01/11/2019 00:22

I am pretty neutral on Corbyn, i think he actually comes across much better when he is out campaigning than he is in HoC.

As far as him being PM, would not be my first choice but i would take him any day over another 5 years of a Tory Govt more right wing than ever and with a PM who if he was a beer would be called "Trump Lite".

He has been shown to be a serial liar throughout his political career and he is the ultimate political opportunist, who will say or do anything if it furthers his career.

The Govt should be judged on their 9 long years in power, where we endured years of austerity, poverty gap widening, rises in homelessness and crime, NHS sinking deeper into crisis . The Brexit chaos which was started by them due to party divisons on EU, made worse by Theresa May's red-lines and refusal to compromise, and now by the PM's failure to deliver by 31 October as promised.

Pannalash · 01/11/2019 00:31

Bloody hope not
