Boris Johnson we are done for!

If the Tory Party really believes he is their answer then do they have any realisation that he is not the super popular star they seem to believe he is? Foreign Secretary! Well, well! Then remember the look of rabbit in the headlights after the Brexit result! Then Gough stating he was not up to the job. Mayor - think garden bridge! Surely, he is seen as the biggest wannabe in the Conservative Party. To be fair he can joke! That is dead useful! He has had a classical education which he uses liberally, especially when he is stuck for an answer! He can come out with remarks likely to insult without a thought. He is a loose cannon which is all we need when the chips are down and make no mistake they are down! If the Tories push him out for popular consumption then I feel it will be another colossal mistake. So Osborne back off with your revenge headlines - we know it's hard getting the sack!

If boris became PM/party leader I wouldn't be voting Tory until he was gone. You cannot put a "gimmick" person as head. He is an idiot.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 11/06/2017 11:41

Whatever you say about Boris IMO he is a crowd puller, charismatic and a communicator.

You cannot deny that he won 2 Mayor of London elections and it is widely believed that the "Leave" result in the EU referendum was down to him being involved.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 11/06/2017 11:44

IMO I do not think it would be a colossal mistake. I think he is the only one with a big enough personality to defeat Labour.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 11/06/2017 11:46

Tears - I have to disagree I do not think he is a gimmick. He is highly intelligent. He puts on an act. You cannot deny his success. He also was heavily involved in our very successful Olympics.

Petronius16 · 11/06/2017 12:51

Olympics? And there was I thinking it was down to Tessa Jowell.

And didn't he take down the protective railings on London Bridge?

I think he knew the financial backing the Leave campaign was getting and climbed on the band wagon

Thiscantreallybehappening · 11/06/2017 13:40

Petronius16 - I didn't say the whole success of the Olympics was due to Boris. I said he was heavily involved in it - of course Tessa Jowell and Seb Coe and hundreds of other people also helped to make it very successful.

As for the railings, they were taken down in 2010 which was long before these awful attacks where vehicles are driven into pedestrians started happening. I am sure that if they could have foreseen these attacks they would have put up security railings so the attacks could not have happened. They decided to take them down after an Audit report on Safety deemed it would be safer for cyclists.

Transport for London have stated this week that they will continue to take Guardrail down and have quoted Guardrail is not designed to withstand vehicle impact. For this, specialist barriers are required. The programme will continue I am aware that if they had still been in place they quite possibly would have slowed the terrorists down. You can't prevent what you can't predict and to blame Boris for a decision taken in 2010 is, imo, unreasonable.

It would have been a lot easier for Boris to back the remain camp with DC and the government I really don't think "financial backing" had anything to do with it. There may have been a political incentive for him to do it but the point I was making is that he is known to be an election winner and whether you like him or lothe him that seems to be the case.

Petronius16 · 11/06/2017 14:13

Guard rails would've been enough to put anyone off from even thinking about it.

BoJo lies - Big Time.

He stood in front of TV cameras holding three bananas saying, we all know the EU makes us sell bunches of only two or three. The market trader round the corner couldn't believe his luck as journalists bought up his stock and were gleefully filmed holding bunches of 7/8/9 bananas. He lies, can't help himself.

He didn't want the job after brexit why would he want it now?

TheCrowFromBelow · 11/06/2017 14:19

GardenGeek it really wouldn't.

I just cannot warm to BJ. He comes across as a nasty cunt with a massive sense of self importance.

He may be intelligent but his emotional intelligence is lacking somewhat.

I don't like TM either. She also thinks she's more than she is and being the of the Tories is enough to carry her through.

I hope that the Tories get rid of them both and put someone with some common sense and compassion as head of the party.

(And that is not Gove either!)

Kit30 · 11/06/2017 14:23

Although Boris is quite clever, that doesn't necessarily translate as smart. Let's face it, he's s bit of a 'turn' isn't he?
Didn't vote for Tories but still cross at media bias( especially the BBC (orbynation)) in news programmes since the election. people voted. The majority party is 56 seats ahead. Its Brexit all over again with whinging losers. It's democracy. Suck it up.

TheCrowFromBelow · 11/06/2017 14:25

The Highline repurposed an existing structure to make it something that was open for all
The garden Bridge was hugely expensive vanity project that was already over budget before it started, and would not have had open access.

I think there might be differing opinions about Ken Livingstone's influence on cycle schemes plus a few others.

www.centreforpublicimpact.org/case-study/londons-cycle-hire-scheme/

Certainly he was selling Council Houses, as were other Councils long before Thatcher came along.

beepbeepimasheep · 11/06/2017 16:12

I'd rather have Johnson than Gove so he's not all bad.

Badbadbunny · 11/06/2017 20:01

As we've just seen, elections are now won or lost on the basis of media appearances and debates etc. Corbyn's "success" was classic. Clegg, Blair and Cameron were good on TV. Brown and May and Ed Milliband aren't. See the pattern? Boris is happy and confident in front of the cameras, which is now clearly a big part of being a party leader/PM. He certainly wouldn't shy away from televised leader debates and would probably wipe the floor with Corbyn, Farron and the Scottish nipper.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 11/06/2017 21:55

Badbadbunny - agree

Quodlibet · 11/06/2017 21:58

Boris is another racist.

Quodlibet · 11/06/2017 22:10

I think Boris lacks the integrity and the gravitas (but then so does Trump, so....) I'd hope that no one is in the mood for a clown running the country right now.

BoysofMelody · 12/06/2017 11:50

He is highly intelligent. He puts on an act.

He's not highly intelligent, he's a stupid person's idea of what a clever person is like.

He's glib, shallow and vain. All he has is an amusing turn of phrase, a gift for self publicity, no sense of shame and powerful friends and family. He's a walking waste of an expensive education and in a meritocratic society he'd be a toilet attendant somewhere.

Badbadbunny · 12/06/2017 12:20

I'd hope that no one is in the mood for a clown running the country right now.

Nearly half the voters wanted Corbyn to run the country, the other half wanted May to run it. Seems like a lot of people want a clown!!!

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 12/06/2017 12:21

Agree with others

As a 'personality' i dont have too much of a problem

But as others have said he is racist and is a stupid liar (easily caught out and lies about stupid things)

Apparently (and this is probably myth) a British contact received a text message from someone in the German parliament. It read

"Anyone but Boris"

I dont even care if thats not true Smile
