My in laws, who are Jewish, believe he is. All their pals and relatives do too.

Friends with Hamas, they say.

Is he? I don't know what to think.

Ok....I’ll explain this to you. Corbyn is not a fucking antisemite and racist because he objects to the policies of the current israeli government. Just have a look at the Jewish Chronicle. Lots of us (Jews) object to Netanyahu. Luckily, it’s a democracy with a Supreme Court which will strike this new law down. The village demolition that got screaming headlines in the guardian was halted by the court. But you probably didn’t hear that, did you? Corbyn is a fucking antisemite and racist because he associates with and sympathises with fucking antisemites and racists and is trying to ensure that the Labour Party is a place for them. Actual Jewish people (as opposed to Corbyn supporters who use some long ago lineage but have no contact or association with the Jewish community) should be afforded the same respect as every other minority in determining what is derogatory, offensive and prejudiced. If you object to this, then you are a fucking antisemite and racist too. (Note to mods- quoting Margaret Hodge)

Well put, horsemadmum. The new definition is idiotic because it requires anti-semitic intention. But that doesn't apply to anyone else. If I say "Not being racist or anything, I think Mo Farah's family should go back to Somalia", my intention is neither here nor there. But now the defence will be that someone is a life-long anti-racist and therefore can't be anti-semitic.

You might remember that Ken Livingstone did tell some businessmen to go back to Iran (though they are Indian), and used the same defence.

horsemadmom · 20/07/2018 14:01

The Reubin brothers were from Iraq, I believe. Their family was expelled in 48- as were almost all Jews from Arab countries- as retaliation for Israel declaring independence. It’s so funny that Corbyn seems utterly unconcerned about the rights and wrongs of the other partition/population displacement of 48. India/Pakistan/Bangladesh. But that might have something to do with their lack of Jews to blame.

RhythmStix · 20/07/2018 14:32

"Well put horsemadmum ". You think so? It wasn't well put , it was the ranting and raving of a rabid uncontrolled idiot.

And please don't quote M. Hodge as if she occupies some sort of moral high ground. She was leader of my council in the 80s and deliberately suppressed and obstructed investigations into child sex abuse in kids' homes. She accused abused vulnerable teens of lying and called them fantasists. She also handed her own son in law a plum job in local govt. She is evil and a nepotist.

RhythmStix · 22/07/2018 16:32

What a moronic post horsemadmum. Clearly you know nothing about Jeremy Corby's long campaigning anti-war history. You're seriously thick.

Blessthekids · 23/07/2018 05:22

I have no idea whether he is or isn't but no longer matters as he's played this so badly. He should deal with the situation and unite his party. Instead he has allowed this issue and brexit to turn Labour into warring factions. They swipe at each other constantly and offer an equally warring Tory party zero opposition. The result is a weak government/parliament, very much in danger of being unable to respond to real threats from Russia, Alt-right not to mention Brexit and day to day running of the UK. Our MPs need to wake up and do some real poltical work to solve problems instead of making bitchy comments on their social media accounts.

PyeWackets · 23/07/2018 06:49

Corbyn stands on the side with anti semites, same as he stands on the side with misogynists. That's why I've left the party and won't vote for Labour why he leads them.

samG76 · 23/07/2018 07:16

rhythm - when you say "anti war", you do know that groups he backs like Sinn Fein, Hamas, and Russia aren't exactly pacifist. He's quite happy with wars, he just wants the uK and the west to lose, even when as in the case of the Falklans, the other side is a fascist dictatorship

RhythmStix · 23/07/2018 09:39

"he just wants the uK and the west to lose".

Oh...ok then. Intelligent and balanced comment there. Hmm.

I'm assuming you do understand the concept of colonisation and occupation? or possibly not. You do get that the Falkland Islands and Northern Ireland are British colonies? you do understand the process of 'settlement construction' which has been taking place for years in the Palestinian territories? if you occupy land illegally then it's reasonable to assume some kind of military response, don't you think? All you need to do is look at history to see what happens.

Anyway, I do not see JC as an anti-Semite and IMO those people who deliberately attempt to justify a govt policy of land grab and apartheid by denouncing all accusers as 'anti semitic' are colluders in something truly disgusting.

samG76 · 23/07/2018 12:44

Rhythm - I understand colonialism entirely. It is pretty clear, though, that (a) Argentina is in itself a colonial entity, which is why their leaders don't look like native south Americans; and (b) our intervention brought down a fascist military junta.

Israel is not a colonial entity. It was founded and populated by refugees, more than half of whom were native to the Middle East.

850k Jews from Arab lands were kicked out or fled between 1948 and 1970

Jews had been in Iraq for 1000s of years and were about 1/3 of the population of Baghdad in the 1940s. There is now something like 3 people left.

Many went to Israel where their decedents are something like 40% of the Jewish population. Some came here or to the US. We have all integrated into our host countries and no longer carry refugee status - unlike the Palestinian population in Jordan whose refugee status is passed down the generations

It's all about the oil. Everything.

Seniorschoolmum · 09/11/2018 16:10

I think he’s a misogynist and couldn’t give a damn if Jewish people are discriminated against. But a proactive anti-Semite, no probably not.

Very unpleasant though
