More on Trump

It is a Trump world and as the Modi saying goes

“Aab Ki Baar Trump Sarkar”

and as the Stump for Trump Sisters say

"Get on the Trump Train or get the hell out of the way"

Rock'n'roll

South wasn't talking about predictions that Trump would win, but that he might win

I was talking about it going wrong for Hilllllary, meaning she would lose unexpectedly.

claig · 19/12/2016 21:03

Yes, I like James Delingpole, he is not politically correct and doesn't believe in manmade climate change, but I think I once read that he said he was not too keen on Trump, which was disappointing

claig - This guy Lichtman is most interesting.

"The Professor who has accurately predicted every presidential election since 1984

"Professor Allan Lichtman, the man who has correctly predicted every presidential election since 1984, foresaw Mr Trump’s victory - although he did admit it was the most difficult election to predict yet. Lichtman's prediction is not founded on polls, shifting demographics or his own political opinions - instead he uses a system of true/false statements he labels the "Keys to the White House” to come to his decision about a winner."

cozietoesie · 19/12/2016 21:04

....A joke....

Forgive me but - what was the element of humour there?

claig · 19/12/2016 21:08

Yes Professor Lichtman is great and also Professor Norpoth. Fox had them both on several times. Top people.

'Forgive me but - what was the element of humour there?'

Explication ruins it. You either get it or you don't. It wasn't one of my best.

"All the political journalists, decades in the job, in the middle of campaign trails and they still did not have an intuition that something might go wrong for Hilllary" .

South wasn't talking about predictions that Trump would win, but that he might win

I was talking about it going wrong for Hilllllary, meaning she would lose unexpectedly.

Well, yes. :)
And it was considered to be possible, unlike you said.

SouthallGirl · 19/12/2016 21:10

That is reading the polls and covering arse. That is not journalism

Exactly. My cat could do that. In fact, next door's cat could do it too.

Lweji · 19/12/2016 21:11

A joke

I think claig meant Trump.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/12/2016 21:11

Remember Lichtman predicts Trump will be impeached.

Lweji · 19/12/2016 21:12

That is reading the polls and covering arse. That is not journalism

Exactly. My cat could do that. In fact, next door's cat could do it too.

My cat is also good at wishful thinking and sometimes he gets it right too. :)

However, I though journalism WAS reading the polls. If not, what IS journalism?

claig · 19/12/2016 21:13

'Remember Lichtman predicts Trump will be impeached.'

I predict no chance of impeachment for Trump.

....Explication ruins it....

Sorry, Lweji. I guess that would cover journalism as well.

Lweji · 19/12/2016 21:17

Ups, some in his administration might be impeached before they take office...

"Leak reveals Rex Tillerson was director of Bahamas-based US-Russian oil firm"

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/dec/18/leak-rex-tillerson-director-bahamas-based-us-russian-oil-company

Climate change on the other hand, doesn't look like disappearing any time soon.
"Arctic ice melt 'already affecting weather patterns where you live right now'"

www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/dec/19/arctic-ice-melt-already-affecting-weather-patterns-where-you-live-right-now

Ups, again.

Lweji · 19/12/2016 21:19

I strongly suspect that the question about what is journalism is another one for the Christmas question tree.
They are all left hanging.

cozietoesie · 19/12/2016 21:21

If I recall, Nixon wasn't impeached. Didn't he resign before they could get there and receive a Presidential Pardon from Ford?

claig · 19/12/2016 21:22

'I strongly suspect that the question about what is journalism is another one for the Christmas question tree. '

I think that is best answered by saying "you know journalism when you see it", have a look at the Daily Mail for a good example

Claig you joker. Grin
No doubt you mean Katie Hopkins.

Now, seriously.

Lweji · 19/12/2016 21:26

SouthallGirl

These two are not predictions.

You didn't ask for predictions.
You said journalists didn't think he might win.

claig · 19/12/2016 21:27

Katie Hopkins is my favourite. It used to be Littlejohn, but the man has gone to pot, lost his backbone, did not support Trump.

Katie is now the number one journalist in the country.

OP posts:
SouthallGirl · 19/12/2016 21:33

The political journalist question has been raised before in several of the earlyTrump threads. My intention is clear in that I am very disappointed that experienced professionals who should be thinking independently, picking up fragments of information and capturing the zeitgeist failed to do so. And they failed to seriously consider the unexpected.

And no, reading polls and reporting on polls is not journalism.

Roussette · 19/12/2016 21:33

Katie is now the number one journalist in the country

According to *claig. Not according to most of the country who don't take a blind bit of notice of anything she says

Lweji · 19/12/2016 21:33

Katie is now the number one journalist in the country.

You're cracking me up.

Not even the DM considers her a journalist.
She's a columnist.
www.dailymail.co.uk/columnists/index.html

But that means that all the other cases you dismissed as not being journalists, ARE journalists.
Hell, I'm a journalist too.

Lweji · 19/12/2016 21:36

And they failed to seriously consider the unexpected.

But... they... did.

And if you don't think interpreting polls is journalism, then what is?
Telling your opinion as facts, Breitbart style?
