The debate is on.
Not only has Sarko got the best policies, he also seems to have the best tune

Sad - just found this threat - late off the mark as usual. Agree that it will be almost impossible to keep his promises and Marine le Pen stands to profit - good analysis folks. Meanwhile looking forward to the highter taxes.

hattymattie · 06/05/2012 20:13

er thread not threat - yeah Segolene must be really pissed off - she could have been first lady.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 06/05/2012 20:14

'20% of abstentions' Don't know how it works, would those have been spoilt papers, or can you officially 'abstain' in France? Or just those that did not vote?

NicholasTeakozy · 06/05/2012 20:14

Good win that. The French have rightly voted against permanent austerity. Austerity only benefits the already wealthy, as can be seen by the abject poverty it has brought to Greece. If we allow the arrogant toryboys to carry on as they are that is how we'll be in five years time.

nulgirl · 06/05/2012 20:14

I know MrsGuy especially because she was a much better politician than her rather dull ex. All goes to show that timing is everything. Bet she is rather peeved.

cansu · 06/05/2012 20:16

Bravo la France. Let's hope we can rid ourselves of Cameron sooner rather than later!

claig · 06/05/2012 20:16

It's the same old sad story yet again.
Voters believed in a candidate who offered pie in the sky.
Gordon told us of an end to boom and bust, and that also turned to dust.

Bloody hell. Idiots.

JosephineCD · 06/05/2012 20:30

I can see any French people with ambition heading to Britain about now. Hollande will be an absolute disaster for France.

duchesse · 06/05/2012 20:37

doh, yes, you're right of course. And yes of course the father not the daughter.

claig · 06/05/2012 20:42

duchesse, you have probably celebrated with a few too many wines and mixed up the father with the daughter. This is no time for celebration, this is a time for bread and water.

Well, I won't be sleeping tonight, with all the klaxons and Bastille going fucking crazy with joy.

Hollande won't be able to deliver what he promised. I'm surprised people think differently.

Let's see how Front National will do in the legislatives. And of course, Marine Le Pen in 2017. She must be so fucking happy right now.

Gigondas · 06/05/2012 20:44

Why has it turned into Saturday night in local bistro with the accordion band?

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 06/05/2012 20:44

dunno - I am eying that vodka and thinking I need it...

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 06/05/2012 20:45

Winny - you are right - she is the one who will really be celebrating tonight :-(

claig · 06/05/2012 20:47

The accordion band is playing "Bella Ciao". That is a beautiful socialist anthem. So much better and real than the crap that New Labour would have played.

OP posts:
Gigondas · 06/05/2012 20:49

I dont even know how "the only way is up" would sound on the accordion.

claig · 06/05/2012 20:51

'I dont even know how "the only way is up" would sound on the accordion.'

It doesn't bear thinking about.

OP posts:
Gigondas · 06/05/2012 20:55

It could only get worse if someone thought about doing some crazy signs to "bella ciao"

claig · 06/05/2012 21:11

If anyone doesn't know that great socialist anthem "Bella Ciao", here is one version, with English subtitles, to a backdrop of the recent Iranian uprising. Compare it to the crap that is "The Only Way Is Up".

babybarrister those were my first word to DH last night Grin - cynical, moi?

Chubfuddler · 07/05/2012 08:13

I thought that too. I give it six months. Mind you sarko is a bit of a player himself, he met his first or second wife when he was mayor of Paris and in the act of marrying her to someone else!

JuliaScurr · 07/05/2012 11:29

claig why would Nu Labour want to sing a socialist song?

JuliaScurr · 07/05/2012 11:32

Hollande will at least try to get away from irreversable ruination austerity and give a lead to Europe
