The debate is on.
Not only has Sarko got the best policies, he also seems to have the best tune

Possibly...that would be a huge upset for the left as it's been widely assumed that Hollande would win. When are the first results in? 8pm?

claig · 04/05/2012 18:06

Yes, I think it is usually something like 8pm. Will be watching on Sunday.

Were the polls wrong in the first round? I know they underestimated Le Pen and I think Melanchon, but were they were right about Hollande and Sarkozy, weren't they?

claig · 04/05/2012 18:14

I can't remember if they overestimated or underestimated Sarko, but they were way out with Melenchon. In Marine Le Pen's speech she mentioned "fake polls".

"Casse-toi pauvre con" is all I have to say.

I know . Sarko land here so very quiet at moment

duchesse · 06/05/2012 19:31

hear hear viking. I never thought from the moment he got in that he'd stay in for more than one term. He only got in in the first place because the alternative in the second round was him or the one-eyed fascist.

claig · 06/05/2012 19:34

The polls were right this time Sad
But what will happen in the coming elections, when approx 48% still backed Sarko?

OP posts:
claig · 06/05/2012 19:38

London will probably be the winner
A chapter has ended, and another one begins.
Allez Londres!

So France goes down the drain :-( As I work for a French compmay will be updating my cv tonight and lloking for another job

claig · 06/05/2012 19:41

No France will still do well.
Hollande won't be able to keep all his promises. He will have to follow the markets.

OP posts:
claig · 06/05/2012 19:44

If Hollande can't keep his promises, his voters will become disenchanted.

(showing my age here...) my thesis was on 'Les promesses et la réalité: la première année de la présidence Mitterrand' - guess it will be same old.
Still, will be fun to watch the body languuage when he first meets Frau Merkel, since the old bag lady was opening promoting Sarko :-)

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 06/05/2012 19:48

openly

claig · 06/05/2012 19:48

Allez Hollande! Though not as much as Melenchon
Looking forward to Greece now

Tres bien

claig · 06/05/2012 19:52

Good luck to Hollande. If he can really restore growth and temper the austerity, then that will be a good thing.

OP posts:
claig · 06/05/2012 19:53

When do we hear the Greek results?

OP posts:
nulgirl · 06/05/2012 20:02

Ahem Duchesse. . Think you'll find that it was Chirac who beat Le Pen. Sarkozy won last time against Segolene Royal.

claig · 06/05/2012 20:04

Also wasn't it Marine's father who had one eye, not Marine?

'Sarkozy won last time against Segolene Royal'
I remember that. A great day. Smile

OP posts:
MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 06/05/2012 20:09

I noticed that in the newspapers they kept referring to MLP as 'twice divorced mother of three' - no mention of Sarko as 'twice divorced father of three', or Hollande, 'never married father of four'

claig · 06/05/2012 20:11

Very good point.

OP posts:
MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 06/05/2012 20:12

Feeling sorry for Segolene tonight... Not only did she miss out on the presidency herself last time, but now has to watch her ex, and his squeeze, the Rottweiler, moving into the Elysee Palace... ;-(
