RitaMorgan · 25/03/2011 22:31

I'll smash some windows for you moondog.

moondog · 25/03/2011 22:38

SAs long as they belong to a some obscure arm of the local council's outreach services, then please do,

glasnost · 26/03/2011 09:53

For moondog

First They came... - Pastor Martin Niemoller
First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

When they come for you moondog there'll be no fucker protesting.

lesley33 · 26/03/2011 11:06

I have lots of friends who are going on the march, but I'm not. tbh I agree that cuts have to be made, but I don't agree with where they are being made in many cases. So wouldn't feel comfortable going on a march against the cuts.

But hope you all have a good day and that it doesn't rain.

Minnerva · 26/03/2011 11:23

Blimey glasnost-that's quite a comparison and not a little over the top..........

As a foster carer myself, who is married to a Jewish (!) teacher we will personally be affected by cuts but tbh it has to be done. This country doesn't have any money-we have spent it all and cuts have to made across the board.I know it's hard and horrible and unfair in places but what else can we do? Sad

If we keep spending without taking proper hold of the purse strings it will be a lot worse in the long run.Painful and almost unbearable I agree but without a viable option there is no choice.Nobody-not even The Torys would do this for no reason.

So I won't be going but I respect the opinions of those that do and hope the weather stays nice.

SharonGless · 26/03/2011 11:43

Total respect to those who are going and thats from a police officer. Most cops that I know support demonstrations as long as they are peaceful. It is the small minority who go to cause trouble who we have a problem with. Good experience for those with children too. Police officers can't affiliate to any political party which may be why not many are marching on this demo but I know that our federation (union) is planning a protest march soon.

Good luck out there today and be safe

"Nobody-not even The Torys would do this for no reason."

Oh yes they would Minnerva. For the hell of it. As they're quite perverse and enjoy hurting the poor and vulnerable.

CateOfCateHall · 26/03/2011 11:52

Wot Dittany said.

Jogon · 26/03/2011 11:54

I don't agree with the sentiment of the march as I think cuts have to be made but I agree absolutely with the right to protest.
Good luck and I hope it remains peaceful!

I've just picked up my DS from uni in central London and saw lots of mobs mustering. The met were on to the. With lots of filming.

happiestblonde · 26/03/2011 11:57

I am totally in favour of cuts, they don't go nearly far enough, but I shall go and spectate.

Those of you taking DCs please be careful in case it gets out of hand like student demos

Aberdeen is oil money, the city contributes around 10% GDP i think

happiestblonde · 26/03/2011 11:59

No I wasn't, to be perfectly honest

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 26/03/2011 11:59

dittany - How much income and NI comes out of each region? What is the total tax received from each region? Corporation tac is a pretty small proportion of total taxation .

We can't afford bailouts, a lot of the public sector, Libya or the billions we have to shell out to bail out euro countries as a result of the last government saying we will

Anyway, didn't want an argument today, it's my birthyay, just to say I support cuts but also right to protest so best of luck I'm going to go and watch it with a large drink

ByTheSea · 26/03/2011 12:02

We would go but are skint at the moment and can't really do the train fare. DH and I have done loads of demos in the past and have brought the kids to some as well.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 26/03/2011 12:03

Glasnost - "Oh yes they would Minnerva. For the hell of it. As they're quite perverse and enjoy hurting the poor and vulnerable"

See, this is just the kind of sentiment that puts people off engaging with politics, because it is both unkind and untrue, and paints a picture of Politics as divorced from every day life.

The tories want to make life better. So do Labour. They disagree on what better means and on the methods, but painting the other side as a pantomime villain just makes your side look worse and pushes people away from engaging with the issues at all.
