Raising money

I am looking for posters ideas for raising money in the UK to be used to keep our public services.

I would put "tax the rich more" but that is to obvious although it is a good idea.

My idea is for a job export tax, jet Take for example Dyson, he started his company in the UK but after a few years he transfered production to the Far East so as to take advantage of cheap labour.

So here is my idea, for every job he exported overseas he should pay say £100,000 in a jet a portion is to go to the person losing their job and the rest to the treasury.

This idea may stop the banks for example transfering their call centres to India if transfering 400 jobs cost then £40 million pounds.

The only people who could lose is the shareholders/owners/directors by getting lower dividends or salaries which is not altogether a bad thing.

This could not work within the EU but may stop UK companies exploiting cheap labour elswhere and laying off UK workers in the callous manner just to increase profits.

NG2

Why act the fool with the "he" and "him".

Unless you are suggesting I am a liar I have always said I would be prepared to pay more tax if it means others do not suffer.

I give a fair bit to charity as i feel it is a civic duty.

BTW I do like Champagne but unlike the Tories I want Champagne (or preferably a decent standard of living) for everyone not just a privileged few.

It's not me who indulges in tax aviodance and other dodgy schemes (legal or not)

I believe I refuted delurkers accusations in a fair manner.

*newave at no point did I say 'the rich should get away scot free.'

I said quite clearly that I realise I must pay my taxes.

Indeed it has been far from scot free...DH and I now don't have a personal allowance between us and pay 50% on a large part of our income.

That is a huge increase.*

If you are paying 50% on a large part of your income then a large part of your income is above £150K

If you think this is necessary as part of the defict reduction than I can accept that. But if you think this is the right course of action to punish me for being successful at what I do, then that is beyond me.

It is not about punishing you it is about the well off sharing in the "pain" which will be felt by the poor and needy.

How does that make you happy? Seriously. I'm at a loss to understand that mentality.

It does not make me happy as such it does however make me feel satisfied that nearly everyone will share the "pain" this government is about to inflict on society.

What's wrong with being a champagne socialist? I adore a bit of bollinger AND am a socialist. So put that in your pie and smoke it Niceguy2. Am getting a tad hacked off with the onetrack views on MN politics. Have seen too much howling down of posters who dare to express an opinion not held by the vocal majority on here (see threads on census etc) and the beating into submission (well, silence) of anyone brave enough to challenge received wisdom.

I'm not in any way dashing to newwave's aid as I'm sure he can look after him/herself and I've read posts from him almost apologetic in tone for being anti tory.

What are all you blokes doing on here btw? Isn't there a Dadsnet for all that?

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 02/03/2011 17:24

It's funny I can remember when all the tories were complaining about being shouted down by the lefties.

newwave · 02/03/2011 17:27

glas, her btw. I have always despised the Tories since Thatchers time I am however (I should say I was) a very long term LD supporter.

NG2 does have a habit of not replying to any point made but instead with unsubstantiated accusations, for example I want everyone to pay more tax except me.

TCNY

It's funny I can remember when all the tories were complaining about being shouted down by the lefties.

The left does not shout people down, it uses logical argument to make it's points. The Tories however brook no deviation from their ideological path

So you're another bloke then are you catinthehat?

I do find this insinuating that a poster is a man if they're forthright or hold their own tedious especially when made by other men. Why did NiceGuy make that insinuation that newwave is a bloke? Nice Guy quite evidently is hence the username (not wholly apposite, I fear).

I can understand the men wanting to wade in here though as it's stimulating and challenging unlike so many things filed under "male".

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 02/03/2011 17:41

From up here on the moral high ground you look just as bad as each other Grin

Does it really matter so much to you about the relative penis length of poster on here? Is a point more valid if the poster has 0cm or 20cm of cock do you think?

catinthehat2 · 02/03/2011 18:23
