there is a statement coming soon.

If he resigns, David Cameron is going to look like a right prick. Again.

Yesterday's news I suppose

OP posts:
LadyBlaBlah · 21/01/2011 11:38

And there it is, he has resigned

David Cameron just keeps on getting it wrong.

OP posts:
FiveFeetTwo · 21/01/2011 11:41

Interesting that he's resigning today when the news will be full of:

a) Blair at the Iraq enquiry

b) Alan Johnson's wife

and it perhaps won't get as much coverage as it might otherwise

Hmm
captainbarnaclesmum · 21/01/2011 11:57

Well it's all BBC News 24 are talking about.

foxytocin · 21/01/2011 11:58

You are not suggesting that the Dave is trying to burying this piece of news Fivefeettwo, are you?

They are all such righteous, competent people, no?

Chil1234 · 21/01/2011 12:42

There aren't any new allegations but he's being hounded about the old ones. Whether the accusations ultimately prove to be right or wrong he can't have been able to do a very good job for the PM in the circumstances. Don't think it reflects badly on DC.

GabbyLoggon · 21/01/2011 15:10

Well as I understand it Scotland yard have opened up the case again

two people went to prison in the past.

Big time celebrities have been paid compensation over being tapped

perhaps the yard want more bodies

Newspaper editors usually know what is going on in their own papers. (And other papers)

And this all takes coverage away from 1 illion 18-25s being unemployed..

newwave · 21/01/2011 15:29

Goes to show what wonderful judgement "Dave" has.

foxytocin · 21/01/2011 15:50

What Gabby said.

The next one who looks like he is going to jail is Ian Edmondson. Listening to R4 last week, it seems like he kept detailed notes and some of these notes have been damning.

GabbyLoggon · 21/01/2011 16:31

Well, foxy, Chil can confirm the details of the story so far.

I dont know I.E....

But clearly the saga has a distance to run

"Gabby"

LadyBlaBlah · 21/01/2011 17:04

Dave is still standing by him. Seems amazingly naive. It is obvious this man was involved in the phone hacking - it is impossible that he could not have known, this was not a rogue reporter, it was standard and accepted practice. And he was the boss.

Why a prime minister would think it a good idea to employ such a person, I will never know.

OP posts:
deemented · 21/01/2011 17:06

Apparently Bryan Kirkwood's interested in his job. He's excellent at dodging questions so should do well.

pointydug · 21/01/2011 17:07

He's resigned?

Huzzah. About time. Lying sleaze ball.

foxytocin · 21/01/2011 18:25

"this was not a rogue reporter"

and he has claimed the opposite to an inquiry, iirc.

lucky1979 · 21/01/2011 21:27

I was surprised to see half of the Labour party on various news channels carping about David Cameron's lack of judgement.

I suppose they'd never met Damian McBride? Or Aliaster Campbell on a bad day?

GabbyLoggon · 22/01/2011 11:42

Well, Lucky, McBride has not left two jobs and done nothing wrong. (which is rather unusual )

The establishment protects there own and Andy C will probably get another highly paid job. Shed no tears.

The saga itsself may run and run. Murdoch may pop over and try to sort it. cheers "Gabby"

huddspur · 22/01/2011 11:44

Its not a surprise Coulsons actions as editor of NOTW made his position untenable

thereiver · 22/01/2011 18:20

so far no evidence of any wrong doing. just a mean nasty vendetta by the fascists on the communist guardian.

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/01/2011 18:23

lol at 'fascists on the communist guardian'

LegoStuckinmyhoover · 22/01/2011 19:50

Coulson did work for that sexist, right wing, pornographic sleeze paper didn't he? Isn't it the police looking into it again, not the guardian? does that not mean that you can add "criminal" to that list?

i heard cammeron on the radio talking about it all and it was all attack. it was all pointing fingers at labour. what is it they say...best form of defence?? i think he knows. i think he's pretending to be completely innocent and trusting for when the shit hits the fan for coulson. he can they say he had no idea and disolve any responsibility. i think the whole thing is planned very carefuly.

:O ::O :O are you for real or just a bit dim :o

fizzfiend · 24/01/2011 17:19

You are all treating him like a condemned man. He has not been convicted of any wrong-doing, despite the best efforts of The Guardian, NY Times, and of course the police.

Do you not for one moment think that these powerful bodies would have strung him up in a heartbeat if they had any firm evidence?

Maybe he was just a rubbish editor who was just happy to fill the paper and didn't care where everything came from as long as Murdoch was happy.

You think one man is clever enough to fox three institutions with access to masses of information, institutions that have a job of making the truth known?

It is scary when the public reacts en masse like this. A bit like when the landlord of Joanna Yeates was practically convicted because he had mad hair and liked a poem that had the word "death" in it.

Maybe it will emerge that he was involved. But until then, try and hold judgement.

fizzfiend · 24/01/2011 17:25

...except theriver.

She is not dim...she is one of a small handful of people who prefer to believe in that tenet of the British constitution "innocent until proven guilty."

Guess all the rest of you have new evidence?

Hey, not defending the guy per se, but just hate this trend of the public deciding someone has committed a bad deed without any amazing new evidence, etc.

Imagine being an innocent person trying to explain that you are not guilty against the massive powers of the press and justice system (one of my worst nightmares, sorry, so I guess I am emotive on this subject.) Not that I've done anything wrong BTW!!!

newwave · 24/01/2011 21:45

fizz, it was the communist fascists comment.

GabbyLoggon · 25/01/2011 14:00

I think its best to wait and see what develops.
