Sorry for being thick and ignorant but I am ashamed to say that I do not know the difference between different christian faiths. I have not listed them all, I would really appreciate it if you could tell me. I was just reading the thread about the person new to christianity and I suddenly thought that I dont know the difference. I have always felt too embarassed to ask anyone in case they go "duh"

Ameriscot - just wanted to say I completely agree in that you can find all different types of worship and service within a single parish - my old church used to have 4 services a day to cater for everyone's needs!

I think most churches would agree that the Bible is God's word which reveals God's truth and a guide for how to live to your life. At the end of the day that's all that matters isn't it?

stephone · 17/09/2005 19:01

thanks chellbelle where are you from ?

stephone · 17/09/2005 19:08

I won't be going to chuch tommorow night as I am looking after Joshua as dad is going to football
thats his religion and see his team lose ah ah.
No serioulsly I have been going to church since my grandma died it is my way of talking to her as I do miss her terribly and we had some good times she died of lung cancer as she smoked like a trooper and it killed her eventually and I was on holiday when she died and having a good time in feurteventura. I could sense it and she was gone but life goes on I do not think she wan'ts me miserable does she thanks for listening.

lol

stephone · 18/09/2005 16:48

whats your favourite hymn ?

chellebelle · 18/09/2005 17:20

This is baby number 2 already have DS who's 5.

Not sure about favourite hymn - probably a two part one where the women and men alternate lines called I will worship - not sure if it's one you'll know as it's fairly new - one of the bonuses of having a worship band that runs a music school is that the songs tend to be regularly updated.

p.s. you're not being a pain

stephone · 18/09/2005 18:08

we have have a worship group and they practice on a monday night i am not going tonight as I have Josh
to look afte have you done the alpha couse i did it in 2002

KateF · 18/09/2005 18:09

We sang I Will Worship this morning . Hi stephone-sorry you had to miss church today. Isn't there a Sunday School for Joshua?

stephone · 18/09/2005 18:16

I like that one it makes me cry.

chellebelle · 18/09/2005 20:40

no sure you're thinking about the same one - this one the men and women during the main bit of the song sing completely different words and tunes at the same time. The women's bit describes God as loads of different things i.e "You are King of kings, you are Lord of lords... You're my Alpha, Omega, beginning and end, you're my saviour, messiah, redeemer, friend".

The other one is good too though

tortoiseshell · 18/09/2005 20:44

Methodists are totally allowed to drink now, but no alcohol on premises. Was because of problems drink caused in society rather than a biblical reason.

stephone · 19/09/2005 14:34

Hi chellebelle how are we this fine afternoon?

chellebelle · 19/09/2005 16:18

ok thanks - having a joyous day at work (yawn, yawn, yawn) Only another hour and 45 mins til I can go home. Yay!

stephone · 19/09/2005 16:23

what is your line of work ?

chellebelle · 19/09/2005 17:26

am a legal secretary for local authority.

have had favourtie song in my head now since was trying to work it out the other day and have worked out that had name completely wrong - have found it on the net - it's called "You are Holy". Am so pleased I've found the lyrics as I'd be surprised if our new worship band knew it so I can reccommend it and they can learn it - Yay!!!

stephone · 19/09/2005 19:45

Hi kate F are you okay

stephone · 20/09/2005 19:36

Hi Katef I want some advice Im thinking of joining a homegroup on a wednesday night at church it's where they study differant parts of the bible but I only go when dh is on mornings so thats once a fortnight
so i might consider it and also have a good knowledge of the bible as well let me know. Hope you are okay ?

chellebelle · 20/09/2005 19:53

Sounds like a good plan to me - my homegroup at my old church was great. Learnt loads, really got to think about stuff properly and made great friends. The added bonus was that we all went to the pub afterwards each week (just for a quick one) which made it so much easier to build relationships in a relaxed atmosphere.

Does your hubby go to church too?

KateF · 20/09/2005 20:14

Hi stephone - not on mumsnet so much now school is back on and ballet, swimming etc! I go to a fellowship group for mums with young children (dd3 is only 13 months and dd2 starts 4+ tomorrow) on a Wednesday morning where we do bible study and pray together. I find it very interesting and supportive so go to one if you can.

stephone · 20/09/2005 20:45

Im thinking of joining one will talk about more on Sunday at church

stephone · 22/09/2005 18:16
