'if he gets elected my greatest fear is that he will be assasinated.'

because, oh, yes, America is so racist and so much more racist than the UK or any other place on the planet.

and last i checked, JFK was white.

contrary to the bullshit the BBC feeds people here, for the most part, millions of people there don't give a flying fuck about the man's race.

Heathcliffscathy · 31/10/2008 22:35

expat DON'T BE LIKE THAT!

quite apart from the fact that jfk was assasinated for mooting pulling out of vietnam and being a nigger lover.

there is a serious risk from a dangerous minority.

and the bradley effect is scarey.

and i hope you are right and i believe you are right but i'm scared you are NOT right about racism in the states.

Expat, I wasn't thinking of race at all, and I can't see why you raised the race issue.

To me, the similarities are a) they are/were both Democrats, b) they are/were both relatively young for presidents and c) they both seem/ed to carry the hopes of a bright new dawn.

expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 22:38

yes, i only lived there as a Hispanic woman for 31 years, soph.

much of it in southeast texas.

i obviously know FA about racism in the country.

'quite apart from the fact that jfk was assasinated for mooting pulling out of vietnam and being a nigger lover.'

lol. NO ONE will ever know definitively why JFK was assasinated.

one of the other conspiracy theories is that his old man pissed someone off before leaving Ireland and she/he cursed the entire family.

Heathcliffscathy · 31/10/2008 22:39

expat, saying that obama is a target for race hate murderousness is NOT THE SAME as saying that all americans are racist!!!!!!!!!!!!!

did i put enough exclamation marks in???

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 22:43

'expat, saying that obama is a target for race hate murderousness is NOT THE SAME as saying that all americans are racist!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

erm, i honestly think you are blowing that out of proportion, soph.

i really, really do. but i can see where people here get whipped up into a huge panic about it by the media here.

i don't believe in god, FWIW, and chose Obama because of his policies and because i think we need a change and also because i think McCain has a far greater chance of crossing the Grim Reaper if he's elected and the thought of that nut job Palin in charge of anything more than a PS3 is chilling.

seems i'm not alone in my thinking.

Sazisi · 31/10/2008 22:44

Are you trying to anger yourself into labour expat
I thought you were a bit harsh, saying America is so much more racist than any other place on the planet, whta about S Africa?

glenthorpe · 31/10/2008 22:45

I feel that Obama is the most promising candidate that the US have had for years but sadly in that country of guns I do not rate his chances..I will look with interest at his policies and actions if he is voted in

ilovemydog · 31/10/2008 22:47

'jfk was assasinated for mooting pulling out of vietnam and being a nigger lover.'

Is this for real?

DumbledoresGirl · 31/10/2008 22:49

Or Zimbabwe?

Nighbynight · 31/10/2008 22:50

I'd like to add to the prayer, that if he gets elected, that he won't get overwhelmed by the pressures of office and lose his humanity.

expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 22:50

'Are you trying to anger yourself into labour expat

does the term 'tongue in cheek' mean anything to you, Saz?

i'm a dual national - American and British.

non-white. my ethnicity now compromises the largest ethnic minority in the US according to the last US census and is growing - Hispanics are traditionally Roman Catholics .

erm, i think soph and i have been here wwwaaayyy long enough to know when one or the other of us is angry.

and now ain't one of those times.

expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 22:52

it's that curse, ilovemydog .

the kennedy curse.

other theories were that the kennedys made money on every bottle of whiskey sold in the US. that one was hysterical!

they do have their share of bad luck, but hey, playing catch football with a Gatorade bottle full of snow on a Colorado ski resort whilst drunk sort of predisposes you to accidents.

ilovemydog · 31/10/2008 22:53

oh good - a private love fest

Sazisi · 31/10/2008 22:53

I knew you were tongue in cheek. I was trying to make you laugh, not annoy you

expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 22:54

it's a quiche.

or a click.

or summat like that.

expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 22:54

omg! gordon ramsays' lasagne looks like boak.

DumbledoresGirl · 31/10/2008 22:54

That was why my post was ignored.

Jeez.

ilovemydog · 31/10/2008 22:55

and driving with your secretary over bridges when your car falls off in river and you forget to report it...

expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 22:55

expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 22:56
