FAQ · 20/10/2008 12:10

Could I ask for some prayers for myself. Got a lot going on and struggling to cope with it all.

DS3's Christening is just under 6 weeks away, still no organist found, and as yet the DS's have nothing special to wear, I also have DS2's birthday part to organise (which is going to end up being the same weekend as the Christening!), plus all the stuff with the enforced house move to sort out, and in addition to that I found out yesterday I'm supposed to single handedly organise the entire Christmas Carol service myself - as I said to the vicar and church warden last night (it wasn't either of them that said I had to do it on my own) I can't do the Carol Service with everything else I have going on - I just know it will be the straw that breaks the camels back.

CaptainDippy · 20/10/2008 12:47

OP posts:
MaryBS · 20/10/2008 16:27

I haven't got any halloween smileys, but if you wanted to see them last year, to press F5 (DON'T DO IT!). As I recall, last year we complained and they were done using separate smiley codes, just like the Christmas ones.

So are the halloween smileys back then?

Love the pix, MJIM, can't believe she is 4 weeks already!

notsofarnow · 20/10/2008 19:27

Praying for you do praying you get a real breakthrough and you find each other again.

mary glad centre is going well - just what you need.

We lost a lovely lady last nightin work only 44 so so sad.

I am tired, miserable and horrible to my dc

I'm still waiting for work totell me if I have a new job or not, my manager left me till 3p.m then said we can't make a decision because we are still waiting for information so you can stop sweating.

MaryBS · 20/10/2008 20:06

OK, I need you lot to TELL me I can preach without notes next Sunday, to the residents of the immigration centre, on the 2 commandments . Let me have the faith to believe in myself, and also that I can trust in God to give me the words to say. Remember I am an Aspie, and usually I have everything written down. Yet with God's help I have accomplished so much...

PandaG · 20/10/2008 20:10

you can do it Mary - or at least God through you can.

why do you need to do it without notes out of interest?

MaryBS · 20/10/2008 20:25

I'm not sure why exactly, I think its to do with expressing myself as much through expression and body language as the words. Like an Aspie would be GOOD at that!

I've seen the chaplain preach twice now, and he almost appeals to them, which I guess you can't do if you're reading from notes, at least not in the same way.

I have tried to warn him what I'm like...

PandaG · 20/10/2008 20:35

so can you have pointers then, subject headings or paragraph prompts, and then speak form them? or completely winging it?

if the latter then practice will help, and know that I will be praying for you...what time is the service?

MaryBS · 20/10/2008 21:26

Completely wing it I think...

MaryBS · 20/10/2008 21:27

10:30

MaryBS · 21/10/2008 03:51

I've been "meditating in the watches of the night"...

What does it MEAN to love God with all our heart? To me, it means that there is no room for things like hatred, fear, jealousy, anxiety, and all the other things which crowd into our heads. When Mary, Jesus' mother, was called to BE his mother, did she say "Hang on a minute, if I'm an unmarried mother, I'll be STONED TO DEATH for that!"? What she said, or so the bible tells us "My soul magnifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour". That is what it means to be "full of grace". Remember though, this is the IDEAL we are aiming for, we DO fall short of this, it is part of being human. And we shouldn't beat ourselves up for failing, but to allow a God of love to fill our hearts with HIS love. If we can do that, then everything else will follow naturally - we can love ourselves, we can love our neighbour. I know it isn't easy, you're talking to "the queen of worry" here! But when I feel God in my heart like that, I feel I can do anything, I can do whatever he asks of me. As the prophet Micah says "This is what Yahweh asks of you, only this: That you act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with your God" (Micah 6:8).

notsofarnow · 21/10/2008 06:47

Mary if you preach without notes you will achieve something that I never did in 10 years of ministry. I always had to have every word written down. Subject headings might be a good idea though just on postcard size so you have something to prompt you if you stumble.

I've been awake since silly o'clock so will be miserabe and tired this evening.

Mary I would love to achieve that ideal of loving God but I fall so far short of it. hmmm long way to go me thinks.

Remembet the other week when I said i might hae shingles well no rash ever appeard and after a while the wierd sensation disappeared but now its back so not a clue what it is but it is really annoying as its right across my bra strap.

Please pray today dd is going to see specialist team about her joints, an answer would be really nice and a plan of action especially where dislocated shoulder (still happening about 5 times a day) is concerned.

MaryBS · 21/10/2008 08:23

I can't explain why, but its less of a sermon, than a reaching out to these people. I need to tell them of God's love, and even a bundle of notes seems wrong somehow. I can keep my bible to hand, to recall the reading if I stumble, and if all else fails, I can talk about the good Samaritan, which is where the reading leads to, although doesn't mention this week.

We ALL fall short of that ideal, but we shouldn't be downhearted if we can't reach it. Its something to aim for, even if its just for a few moments at a time.

Praying re: your job, your own health and that of your DD.

Sometimes it seems there are these periods of "thin spaces" where I feel God, in the middle of the night, and if I don't write it down (like the above), it never feels the same in the morning. I feel the urge to leap up and make a note as if its a message for me. Does that sound strange?

God's blessings on you all. I've emailed the chaplain and have said I'll preach this Sunday.

Podmog, adding prayers for your church to my prayers for you and ds2 this morning.

Mary, it's funny because on Sunday we heard Rev Dr Nigel Wright, who is the principal of Spurgeon's College (the main training college for baptist ministers) and he was preaching on this loving God with all your heart. He said that however good he was as a theologian (and it doesn't get much better than that) he didn't love God with all his heart and he was sure none of us did either.
What I think we sometimes forget is that it isn't all to do with us, but with what Jesus has done for us, that is that HE has made us 'perfect' in God's eyes by His death and resurrection. We didn't do it, we couldn't, we can't do ANYTHING to save ourselves. "Nothing in my hands I bring, naked to Thy cross I cling". I think it is, paradoxically, the emptier you are of yourself the more God has the chance to fill you 'full of grace'. "When I am weak, then I am strong.
I think I heard it from Selwyn Hughes, he said:- "Spend some time meditating on how much God loves you, when you feel you don't love God enough".
I'm sure you will speak fluently, filled with the Holy Spirit on Sunday and that people will see the grace of God flowing to them through you.
