Gift idea with biblical overtones?

I’m visiting my Aunt soon, she is in poor health.

As a devout Christian she lives a compassionate life, she is not judgemental and has always tried to practice the positive bible teachings.

I’m unsure when I will next see her and I would like to take a gift.
My first thought was something like a bible verse a day, however her eyesight is poor so it would have to be in large print.

I love her very much and I would like to give her something with meaning.

Does anyone have recommendations, please?

We have a church in my town that has a little shop next to it called a repository that sells all manner of biblical items, is there somewhere near you like this? You could pop in and browse.

Rosary beads.

BuffetTheDietSlayer · 05/10/2025 20:34

A cushion with one of her favourite verses on it.

Rosary beads.

That could misfire!

Why?

Abominableday · 05/10/2025 20:39

If she isn't catholic. Afaik only catholics use rosary beads.

AutumnyCrow · 05/10/2025 20:45

A gift of food might be nice. Lyle’s golden syrup and some good honey, to go with the biblical riddle posed by Samson. (‘Out of strength came forth sweetness’.) The syrup still has it on the tin, with an illustration of the lion and bees.

She will be able to pass it on to her church harvest festival or similar if she wishes to donate rather than use it herself.

Depending on her taste, a piece of Hannah Dunnett art. They’re Bible verses written through an illustration and the pictures are lovely (I think!) Even if she can’t see the text clearly, if you tell her what the verse is, she can sit and look at it and enjoy it and think of the passage. You might be able to find them as greeting cards in a church shop like a pp mentioned and frame it for her.

Not at all

Abominableday · 05/10/2025 20:53

No Protestant I've ever met uses them - though I am from NI so maybe that's different

Abominableday · 05/10/2025 20:55

From the point of view of not saying any set prayers, other than the Lord's Prayer, so not sure what you'd be counting on the beads

Perpetuallywondering · 05/10/2025 21:12

Yes, I’d agree that something nice to hold like and olive cross or a stone could be lovely.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/10/2025 21:12

A wooden holding cross.

Same in Scotland. Very much Catholic.

JamDisaster · 05/10/2025 21:20

Certainly Protestants can pray the rosary but it’s a different arrangement of beads and you do psalms for some of them or other bible verses as well as the Lord’s Prayer. But it tends to be only high anglicans who use them and not that many of them so might well not be the right thing.

A holding cross is a lovely idea. You can also get all sorts of nicknacks with a Christian theme- not sure if that’s her taste- and things like mugs or prints with a favourite bible verses

Hurumphh · 05/10/2025 21:23

I’ve only heard of a couple of non-catholics using rosary beads, and they were quite open to other traditions.

A singing bowl is a really nice tool for meditation or contemplative prayer (though often used by Buddhists too so depends whether it fits with her tradition or if she’s open to other things).

Or this is a nice gift edition of a book - you could offer to set her up with the audiobook too to help her along. www.amazon.co.uk/Jesus-Calling-Commemorative-Devotional-Devotions/dp/1400250811

TheSixthBestOption · 05/10/2025 21:44

I agree with the idea of a holding cross.

Does she have a mobile phone? You could download some Christian podcasts or an audible book for her. Or the Lectio 360 app would be great as they do a spoken prayer every morning and evening. Its also free.

JamMakingWannaBe · 05/10/2025 21:45

I'd follow PP's suggestion to pop into your local Faith/Christian bookshop/gift shop. They are bound to have something suitable.

Screamingabdabz · 05/10/2025 21:49

If she’s in poor health she might not want to be burdened with extra ‘stuff’ and faith is such a personal thing. How about a card with a meaningful verse (lots on Etsy like the Hannah Dunnett ones) and some flowers or a homemade cake?

YesJs · 05/10/2025 21:50

Fish?

ccquad · 05/10/2025 21:53

Have a look at items by Hannah Dunnett. Bible based artwork On lots of items eg mugs, tea towels etc.

Shutuptrevor · 05/10/2025 21:56

Eden.co.uk do Christian gifts.

triballeader · 05/10/2025 21:56

How about a nice warm shawl, it could be used as a prayer shawl if she chooses or as a simple warm extra layer she can wrap around her on less mobile days.

maybe make a card that tells her you cannot always be there to give her a gentle hug but the shawl comes with all your love that she can wrap around herself to remain her that she is deeply loved.
