Biblical Bad Mothers Club!

Monkeytrousers · 26/05/2008 21:10

My son is not christened - not even so he can get into the nearest catholic school.

He (and I, of course) am damned to hell fire.

Is it possible to top that in the bad parents league?!

Roll on and gloat you CC sinners!

none of my 5 children are christened.

my mother wasnt very impressed, but she was even less impressed when my 9yo dd told her she doesnt believe in the biblical 'God' and wants to be a pagan.

Monkeytrousers · 26/05/2008 21:19

oh you shocking mother!

You'd be burned at the stake for that in times past I hope you know.

Me with only one, I can put it down to a mishap, but five. Oh you're done for

We are regular CofE attenders but neither of the dds are christened/baptised.

We are waiting until they are old enough to make their own decision.

Interestingly we have discussed it with our vicar (a reasonable chap btw) and he thinks that is fine.

Monkeytrousers · 26/05/2008 21:24

Oh good for you Op. How very refreshing!

despite going to church fairly regularly neither DD is christened. doesn't help that DH is a raving athiest. The DDs are quite happy to come to church and both would like to be christened this year (if i get round to sorting it out!) they are 10 and 12.

francagoestohollywood · 26/05/2008 21:27

My 2 dc aren't christened. And now we live in Italy !

onepieceoflollipop · 26/05/2008 21:31

Dd1 is 4 and has observed several small babies being baptised. She is very interested in seeing an adult being baptised which I will try and arrange for her. I think she is still a little young to make a decision, but Nigella's children at 10 and 12 are definitely able to decide for themselves.

Fil (who is odd) went on a bit when dd1 was small "hinting" very heavily that "something might happen to her" and she "might go to hell". Made me very

Divastrop · 26/05/2008 21:36

very refreshing to hear parents saying they are going to let their dc decide for themselves if they want to be baptised

Monkeytrousers · 26/05/2008 21:38

I rebelled and got confirmed by 'choice' (aka fuck you parent) when I was a teenager - just a flash forward maybe for some of you.

I am a veggie so totally ex[pact DS to get shares in Macdonalds to piss me off before he actually grows up.

MT lol at the thought of my dd shrieking "I hate you mum, and going to get baptised now to spite you!"

Divastrop · 26/05/2008 21:41

funnily enough,i was the only person in my confirmation class who was there because i wasnted to confirm my committment to the church etc as opposed to wanting to get lots of presents

ahhhh,i was such a good catholic girl untill i did A-level christian theology

Monkeytrousers · 26/05/2008 21:42

Yeh, it will happen. You can laugh at then in that annoyingly dismissive way and say, "I knew you were going to say that."

OP posts:
bossybritches · 26/05/2008 21:43

Isn't nice though that nowadays we CAN choose whether or not to follow our parents/family beliefs or not, & christen/baptise/name/not do anything with our children as we feel is right not hypocritically doing somthing that feels wrong personally just because "it's always done"

Monkeytrousers · 26/05/2008 21:44

I was confirmed in a rah-rahh skirt. I actually got conmformed becasue I thought it would make my mother pay attention to me at least one night - she didn't and I had nothing else to wear! That experience has made me who I am

onepieceoflollipop · 26/05/2008 21:45

Well said bossybritches.

Monkeytrousers · 26/05/2008 21:46

I have brought my children up to believe that the lovely white faires with blonde hair and pretty wings will bring them cash should evolution demand a tooth, and that a fat white guy in a red suit will drop pressies down the chimney in return for a mince pie. Goblins, white guys on clouds being all judgey - what's the difference?

Divastrop · 26/05/2008 22:00

my children know that the nice people at amazon send their christmas presents in return for a cheque from mummy, and if they loose a tooth they give it to me and say 'wheres my 50p?'

Monkeytrousers · 26/05/2008 22:00

erm..tooth loss is not evolution, it's entropy

hullygully · 26/05/2008 22:27

MT - to what end?

GrimmaTheNome · 26/05/2008 22:40

This seems, contrary to the title thread, to be the Unbibilical Good Mother's Club. Count me in.

Monkeytrousers · 27/05/2008 10:01

just a laugh HG

OP posts:
hullygully · 27/05/2008 10:28

Oh okay. Funnily enough, am sat here supposedly writing an essay on comedy, post-god etc etc. Any/all thoughts welcome.

Monkeytrousers · 27/05/2008 10:34

There is a good repost to the intellegent design lot about periods - about how better designed they could be! It was a rare good joke in a Ben Elton show.

Im sure soemone could think up a witty answer to 'Howe many intellegebt designers does it take to change a lightbulb?' but it's too early for me..

hullygully · 27/05/2008 10:37

Isn't it funny how people think ID is a new thing? No one seems to remember the 18th century rationalists and the watch in the forest. Collective amnesia, doncha love it?
